Civic Action,Historical Agency,and Grassroots Advocacy: Historical Inquiry Into Freedom Summer

Abstract

In this article, the authors discuss how to explore the agency of ordinary citizens using local institutions to combat Jim Crow segregation laws during Freedom Summer. Primary sources from Miami (OH) University website about Freedom Summer and Susan Goldman Rubin's trade book ground the inquiry. Through the series of activities discussed, middle school students utilize the steps of the Inquiry Arc in the C3 Framework to analyze primary and secondary sources about Freedom Summer to determine how ordinary citizens took civic action to address the economic, social, cultural, and political inequalities of Jim Crow segregation laws. These experiences equip students with the knowledge and skills to be change agents in their own communities.     

Identity,accent aim,and motivation in second language users: New Scottish Gaelic speakers’ use of phonetic variation

This paper examines the use of phonetic variation in word‐final rhotics among nineteen adult new speakers of Scottish Gaelic, i.e. speakers who did not acquire the language through intergenerational transmission. Our speakers learned Gaelic as adults and are now highly advanced users of the language. We consider variation in their rhotic productions compared to the productions of six older, traditional speakers. Previous approaches to variation in second language users have either focussed on how variable production will eventually result in native‐like ‘target’ forms (Type 1 study), or have investigated the extent to which second language users reproduce patterns of variation similar to ‘native speakers’ (Type 2 study). We additionally draw on sociocultural approaches to Second Language Acquisition and apply notions of accent aim, identity construction, and learning motivation in order to fully explore the data. In doing so, we advocate a ‘Type 3’ approach to variation in second language users.

On the role of families and kinship networks in pre-industrial agricultural societies: An analysis of the 1698 Slavonian census

This paper uses the 1698 Slavonian census to illuminate features of social organization and productive activity of an eastern European population under the New Feudalism of the 17th century. In particular we investigate the ability of community or kinship networks to provide substitutes for missing markets in securities and production factors. It is found that kinship networks increase the efficiency of agricultural production by facilitating the exchange of oxen. This confirms contemporary reports that draft animals were the critical constraint to the expansion of agricultural output. We also find that kinship networks fail to reduce the variability of output through mutual harvest insurance. Received: 03 November 1998/Accepted: 16 June 1999     

实现教育公平的公共教育财政法律路径研究

教育公平是社会公平的基础,实现教育公平是党为我国在新时期发展提出的新的目标和任务。当前,我国面临着教育条件、主体和客体等诸多层次的教育不公平问题,这些问题在西方经济发达的国家同样存在。文章以美、英两国实现教育公平的成功经验作为借鉴,以公共教育财政法律制度作为突破口,论证了有效的公共教育财政法律制度才是我国当前解决教育不公平,促进实现教育公平的最优路径。     

2,3,7-三羟基-9-(3,5-二溴-2-羟基)苯基荧光酮-CTMAB胶束荧光熄灭法测定微量钛(IV)

在阳离子表面活性剂存在下 ,依据Ti(IV) - 2 ,3,7-三羟基 - 9- (3,5-二溴 - 2 -羟基 )苯基荧光酮 (简称DBSPF)体系的荧光熄灭效应 ,拟定了一种采用荧光法测定微量钛的新分析方法 在pH5 2～ 6 8的HAc-NaAc缓冲溶液介质中 ,钛 (IV)与DBSPF形成 1 :3的无荧光络合物 试剂最大激发波长和发射波长分别为 362nm和 559nm 钛 (IV)含量在 5 0 μg/Ll范围内 ,钛浓度与荧光熄灭量呈现良好的线性关系 ,方法检测线为 (0 1～2 4) μg/ 2 5ml 拟定方法用于合金钢中微量钛的测定 ,结果满意     

三级综合性医院科技创新的内涵及评价研究

通过对国内外相关研究的系统回顾和总结,阐述并界定了医院科技创新等概念的内涵,对相关研究中广泛采用的医院科技创新能力的评价原则、方法和指标进行了梳理和归纳,总结目前研究存在的不足和待改进之处,为更加全面准确地评价三级综合性医院科技创新能力提供新思路。

螺杆泵螺杆纳米掺杂陶瓷涂层显微结构研究

利用大气等离子喷涂技术（APS）,在7.5m螺杆泵螺杆基体表面上制备纳米掺杂30%AT13(Al₂O₃+13%TiO₂)陶瓷涂层,采用Philips XL-30型扫描电镜（SEM）、能谱（EDS）和Philips X-port型X射线衍射仪（XRD）等现代分析手段对纳米掺杂AT13等离子喷涂粉末及螺杆表面等离子喷涂涂层的显微组织、物相进行了观察测定。结果表明：纳米掺杂等离子喷涂粉末结构呈微米级粒子表面包覆纳米粒子的麻团状,尺寸在50~70μm内,流动性好,适用于大气等离子喷涂。纳米掺杂使等离子喷涂涂层元素分布均匀性提高,孔隙度降低,涂层内出现（Al₂O₃）_5.333与斜方晶态的Al₂TiO₅物相。涂层断口分析证明：在纳米掺杂30%的涂层中,出现大量直径约为10nm的蠕虫状晶须,断裂方式变为韧性的穿晶断裂,为纳米掺杂螺杆使用寿命成倍的提高提供了理论依据。     

3-5岁儿童讲述故事的叙事能力发展研究

选取华东师范大学儿童语言研究中心zhou2语料库中的400名3-5岁学前儿童作为研究对象,运用国际叙事语言评估工具——MAIN（Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives）中《鸟》的故事作为研究材料进行数据收集,并使用MAIN从故事结构、结构复杂性、内部状态术语、故事理解四个方面,重点考察3-5岁学前儿童讲述故事的叙事能力,以及各要素的叙事水平是否存在年龄差异。结果表明：儿童叙事能力随年龄增长呈不均衡发展态势,且4-5岁为儿童叙事能力发展的转折期;儿童对故事各要素讲述能力的发展具有显著年龄差异;儿童故事理解能力各要素均处于较低发展水平。
