Several adjustments of the profile likelihood have the common effect of reducing the bias of the associated score function. Hence expansions for the adjusted score functions differ by a term, Dξ, that has small asymptotic order (n ). The effect of Dξ on other quantities of interest is studied. In particular, we find the bias and variance of the adjusted maximum-likelihood estimate to be relatively unaffected, while differences in the Bartlett correction depend on Dξ in a simple way.  相似文献

Urban spaces have become blended even more seamlessly with their portrayal. Such representations are generated via a broad range of media which both influence and sculpt our sense of their constitution so that our sense of what the urban 'is' is inflected by a range of interpretations, atmospheres, inherited viewpoints, dialogues and scenarios derived from these media. In this paper this interpretive skew is looked at as generated through intense video gaming activity and from a particular simulated urban context, the city of the game Grand Theft Auto 3: Liberty City. The objective is to conceptualize the linkages between gamers' apprehension of the relative realism of this in-game environment and its influence on their experience of traversing 'real' urban environments. The authors suggest the notions of slipped and segued viewpoints as a means of understanding the differential degrees to which real and artificial interactive representations, based around violence, gang ecologies and dystopian urban space, bleed unevenly into the everyday urban life of these players. This sense of space appears to influence perceptions of risk, the navigation of urban space, and received understandings of social ecologies and stereotypes which overlap with the non-game world. Gamers move within what the authors call the ludodrome - a mediated space between immersion in urban simulation and a real world that is simultaneously generated, destabilized and blurred by the effect of such gameplay.  相似文献

Despite a growing recognition of the importance of insurgent group structure on conflict outcomes, there is very little empirical research thereon. Though this problem is rooted in the inaccessibility of data on militant group structure, insurgents frequently publish large volumes of image data on the internet. In this paper, I develop a new methodology that leverages this abundant but underutilized source of data by automating the creation of a social network graph based on co-appearance in photographs using deep learning. Using a trove of 20,645 obituary images published online by the PKK, a Kurdish militant group in Turkey, I demonstrate that an individual’s centrality in the resulting co-appearance network is closely correlated with their rank in the insurgent group.  相似文献

Despite the great increase in the use of color in statistical graphics, we know very little about how color affects people's perception of the quantitative information on graphical displays. Perceptual psychologists have already demonstrated that color can cause optical illusions of various kinds. We ran a simple experiment to see if this can happen with a statistical map and found that an illusion did occur.  相似文献

AGENCY is a computer simulation model developed to emulate service delivery in a mental health center, but broadly applicable to most human service delivery organizations. Definition of the service providing agency is input to the program from a separate data file, so the program is extremely flexible and general. Initial validation results are positive.
