Gender Unemployment Dynamics: Evidence from Ten Advanced Economies

The paper investigates gender unemployment dynamics in 10 advances economies applying a recent methodology on widely available Labour Force Surveys data. We calculate the job finding and separation rates for each gender and use them to construct the steady‐state unemployment gap as well as two counterfactual gender unemployment gaps: one generated by differences only in job finding rates and the other by differences only in separation rates. We find that in all countries the gender unemployment gap attributed to differences in the job finding rate is lower than the gap attributed to differences in the separation rate, suggesting that gender differences in the separation rate are the major factor behind the gender unemployment gap.     

What Survey Data Reveal about Price and Wage Rigidity in Portugal

This paper exploits the information collected from a survey conducted on a sample of Portuguese firms to study the patterns of firms’ price and wage adjustments and the extent of nominal price and wage rigidities. The evidence shows that the frequency of price changes varies substantially across sectors and depends on the intensity of competition, the share of labor costs and firms’ price reviewing behavior. The results also suggest that the constraint imposed by the presence of downward nominal wage rigidity is less important in firms where the fraction of permanent and high‐skilled workers is lower and the share of flexible pay components is higher.

Explaining the causes of poverty in the West Indies: A cross-cultural comparison

Research into attitudes towards the poor and lay explanations for poverty have heen primarily concerned with the structure and determinants of these attitudes and explanations. Whereas a number of variables — education, religion, ethnic group — have been shown to relate to explanations for poverty, there have only been a few cross-cultural studies. This study set out to compare the explanations adolescents gave for poverty in two West Indian islands — the relatively wealthy island of Barbados and the relatively poor island of Dominica. The overall economic development/prosperity of the two islands, and the extent and visibility of economic inequality between the two islands appeared to account for the numerous national differences. These results are discussed in terms of the social, political and historical differences between the two islands.     

高校体育专业足球课能力教学模式的构建研究——以重庆文理学院为例

体育运动的生活化、社会化发展趋势对体育工作者的运动能力、训练能力、竞赛组织能力提出了更高的要求,需要体育工作者扮演教师、教练、竞赛组织、社会体育工作者等多重角色。为适应多元化社会需求培育新人才,探索体育专业足球课教学模式的改革,文章运用文献资料、逻辑推理等研究方法,结合当前足球课教学模式的优缺点,得出能力教学模式是足球课程改革的必然选择。足球课能力教学模式的构建应该以“一个中心、两个基本点、三大原则、四种教法”为途径,能力教学模式的构建可以调动学生的积极性、优化学生学习氛围、激发学生的创新精神、提高学生的综合素质。

旅游宣传资料的英译是译者、作者和国外游客之间的一种跨时空、跨文化交际活动.旅游宣传资料的翻译者必须增强自身的跨文化敏感性,既精通两种语言又熟谙两种文化,最大限度地兼容交际双方的语言习惯、文化心理、交际规约和价值标准差异.本文试以比较中英旅游宣传资料在遣字用词、句式结构、谋篇布局、文本内容等方面的差异为路径,揭示中英两种语言体系所承载的语言习惯、价值观念、思维模式、民族心理、审美情趣等跨文化交际要素的差异,并提出跨文化交际视阈下的旅游宣传资料英译的原则和方法.
