Internet presence and historically black colleges and universities: Protecting their images on the World Wide Web?

This study examines how historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) use their home pages to present images of themselves. The home pages of 96 institutions were examined using content analysis. The findings suggest that HBCUs are not using their home pages to project a strong image. For example, less than 10% of these institutional home pages made mention of institutional rankings, and less than 20% made mention of students, athletics or faculty. The authors make suggestions for how HBCUs can better project institutional image with changes to home page content and design.     

Experience,perceptions and attitudes of parents who planned home birth in Spain: A qualitative study

BackgroundA woman’s home birth and postpartum experience can have a major impact on her baby’s, partner’s and family’s well being. It is a life-altering event that can help improve or worsen women’s self-esteem and self-confidence.AimThe aim of this study was to describe and understand the experiences, perceptions and attitudes of parents who planned a home birth in Spain.MethodsA qualitative study was conducted based on Gadamer’s hermeneutic phenomenology. Two main methods were used for data collection; narratives and individual in-depth interviews with 14 mothers and 8 fathers who had planned a home birth in the last year. Inductive analysis was used to find themes based on the data obtained.FindingsSix main themes emerged from the data analysis: (1) in search of a natural and personalised birth, (2) breaking with social pressures, (3) experience of home birth for the mother, (4) role of the father in home birth, (5) how does the father experience home birth?, (6) home birth is not available to all mothers and fathers.ConclusionFor the mothers and fathers in this study the home birth experience fulfilled their previous expectations of an intimate and natural moment, making it a highly satisfying experience for both. However, parents expressed experiencing negative feelings such as fear and worry about complications and labor pain. According to our research society in general and public health professionals in particular issue numerous criticisms and value judgments towards mothers and fathers who opt for a home birth in our country. In addition, the study shows the economic and cultural inequalities in access to home birth in Spain.     

孟浩然入京考实

唐代山水田园派诗人孟浩然,因谋取功名,一生曾三入长安。开元十一年冬,孟浩然因中书令张说之荐而首入长安,并写了著名的《赴京途中遇雪》一诗。开元十六年秋,孟浩然因"应进士"举二入长安,并与王维相识于京师。开元十九年一月,唐玄宗率文武百官"幸"东都,孟浩然闻之,乃于翌年春由襄阳而至,之后由洛阳三入长安。     

Client Satisfaction with Live-In and Live-Out Home Care Workers in Israel

Abstract

In an era of globalization where the migration of long-term care workers is common, foreign live-in home care workers can compensate for the unavailability of family members and, perhaps, even substitute for institutional care in the provision of long-term care services to disabled older persons.

This study examines differences in home care satisfaction between disabled older persons in Israel with “live-in” home care workers and those with “live-out” workers, and explores some differences in socio-demographic and personal characteristics between these two groups. Face-to-face interviews were held with a random sample of 93 older persons in Beer-Sheva.

Older persons with live-in home care workers were more satisfied with their home care service than those with live-out workers. Those with live-in workers were more severely disabled, tended not to have any children living in close proximity, although an adult child was available as an informal caregiver. Communication difficulties between the elderly persons and their home care workers were found not to affect negatively the satisfaction with the service.     

论朝鲜女子徐氏《次归去来辞》——兼谈中朝女性与隐逸

陶渊明的《归去来兮辞》,引来后世众多的次韵效体之作,其中最为奇特的一例,当属出于海东女子徐氏(1753—1823)之手的《次归去来辞》。因为这样的题目通常为反省仕宦经历的男性诗人所染翰,在仕途之外的古代女子则极少尝试。徐氏向往隐逸而又笃于人伦,这使其笔下的“归去”图景既清气袭人,又饶益亲情,在步趋陶赋中自显特色。作为异域女子,她在观照和汲取中国隐逸思想的资源时,把退隐之道与保家安邦的理念加以调和,反映了儒道两家思想的一种生活化的交汇形态。将徐氏置于中韩女性与隐逸文化的结缘历程中,不难看出女性发挥隐逸价值观的相应的思想空间。     

2008北京奥运会中国金牌赶超美国的可能性 —基于东道主效应的分析和预测

 2008年北京奥运会中国代表团能否在家门口实现金牌、奖牌数的新突破从而取代美国成为第一金牌大国，国人充满期待。文章提出了东道国效应的测算办法，利用GM(1,1)模型预测了中美两国可能获得的金牌总数。考虑到东道主效应，中国金牌数赶超美国几成定局。要理智对待金牌和奖牌，当好东道主，展现大国风貌。

信访制度既能有效保护人民群众的合法权益,体现人民主权的宪政基础,契合现代法治政府理念目标的实现,同时又能展现权利时代利益诉求的制度保障和司法救济途径的制度互补。信访制度在构建和谐社会中具有多方面的的功能和作用。     

A Group Approach to Fostering Self-Cohesion and Developmental Progression in Female Adolescent Group Home Residents

In this project, the applicability of David Wexler's (1991a,b) multi-model Program for Innovative Self Management (PRISM) to adolescent girls in group home placement was explored. The model is based on self-psychological and developmental theory. Originally developed for use in adolescent inpatient settings, PRISM utilizes cognitive-behavioral and relaxation techniques to equip the acting out adolescents with skills to better manage a wide array of emotions and behaviors. A modified version of PRISM was conducted in a group psychotherapeutic format with eighteen residents of two group homes, ages 14 to 18. The study reflected that the participants embraced the model and applied the skills with encouraging results. Recommendations for future research in this area are presented.     

乌鲁木齐市养老机构中存在的问题与对策分析

文章从系统论的角度出发，通过对乌鲁木齐市养老机构的调查，分析了养老机构在资金投入不足、优惠政策较难落实、管理体制不灵活及工作人员素质较低、设施不完善、服务质量不高等方面存在的问题。针对以上问题提出养老机构要增强服务意识，实现管理民主化，并且可以通过引入社会工作，使服务更加专业化。
