Semiparametric inference of proportional odds model based on randomly truncated data

This paper studies the estimation in the proportional odds model based on randomly truncated data. The proposed estimators for the regression coefficients include a class of minimum distance estimators defined through weighted empirical odds function. We have investigated the asymptotic properties like the consistency and the limiting distribution of the proposed estimators under mild conditions. The finite sample properties were investigated through simulation study making comparison of some of the estimators in the class. We conclude with an illustration of our proposed method to a well-known AIDS data.

FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS AND INNOVATION: WHY POOR COUNTRIES DON'T CATCH UP

This paper examines micro‐level channels through which financial development can affect such macroeconomic outcomes as level of income. Specifically, we investigate theoretically and empirically how financial constraints affect a firm's innovation activities. Theoretical predictions are tested using unique firm survey data, which provide direct measures for innovations and firm‐specific financial constraints, as well as information on shocks to firms' internal funds that serve as firm‐level instruments for financial constraints. We find unambiguous evidence that financial constraints restrain the ability of domestically owned firms to innovate and hence to catch up to the technological frontier.

播出服务器磁盘I/O与缓存性能分析

针对电视台专业播出服务器在播出质量和播出性能上的高要求,提出了(s,S)策略下读数据缓存和复用缓存与节目数量、节目数据速率、磁盘性能、ASI卡缓存大小的关系。在此基础上进行的实验结果表明:分配给节目播出的读数据和复用缓存并不是越大越好,而是有一个较优的范围。据此可对服务器的资源分配进行优化。     

α-Al_2O_3中三角Ru~(3+)中心的g因子研究

基于晶体场模型,采用三角对称下4d5离子各向异性g因子微扰公式,对α-Al2O3中三角Ru3+中心的电子顺磁共振实验结果进行了理论研究。计算中利用较新的Ru3+自由离子旋轨耦合参数,考虑了轨道缩小因子和旋轨耦合参数对杂质Ru3+中心g因子的影响,讨论了Ru3+中心的局部结构性质,结果表明理论与实验符合得很好。     

Provincial Conditional Income Convergence in China, 1953-1997: A Panel Data Approach

This paper examines the tendency towards income convergence among China's main provinces during the two periods: the pre-reform period 1953-1977 and the reform period 1978-1997 using the framework of the Solow growth model. The panel data method accounts for not only province-specific initial technology level but also the heterogeneity of the technological progress rate between the fast-growing coastal and interior provinces. Estimation problems of weak instruments and endogeneity are addressed by the use of a system generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator. The main empirical finding is that there is a system-wide income divergence during the reform period because the coastal provinces do not share a common technology progress rate with the interior provinces.     

A comparison of objective and subjective measures of clinical competence

The purpose of this study was to determine if objective performance measures from a simulated patient practical examination were related to faculty subjective assessments of surgery students' performance. Another purpose was to determine if those students performing well on a simulated patient practical examination were the same students awarded honor ratings by faculty. Faculty ratings of students (n = 72) on history taking ability, physical exam skills, problem identification, use of investigations, problem integration, patient management, and patient relations skills were correlated with objective measures on these same criteria achieved on a practical exam employing three simulated patient cases. Correlations were also calculated to study the relationship between practical exam scores and honor rating recipients. Results indicated significant relationships between faculty subjective ratings and practical exam outcomes on all practical examination skills except physical exam skills and patient management skills. Findings also indicated the performance of honor students on the practical examination was significantly better than non-honor students on two skills: history-taking and patient relations. The implications of these research findings are discussed.     

A nonparametric repeated significance test with adaptive target sample size

In this article a general result is derived that, along with a functional central limit theorem for a sequence of statistics, can be employed in developing a nonparametric repeated significance test with adaptive target sample size. This method is used in deriving a repeated significance test with adaptive target sample size for the shift model. The repeated significance test is based on a functional central limit theorem for a sequence of partial sums of truncated observations. Based on numerical results presented in this article one can conclude that this nonparametric sequential test performs quite well.
