超自然派中的佼佼者舍伍德·安德森,以他的<俄亥俄州瓦恩斯堡镇>(1919)获得了国际声誉.他摈弃了美国文学上流社会小说一向重情节的传统格局,另辟一条创作风格,通过深入挖掘人物的内心世界,开拓了自然主义的新疆域.安德森的短篇小说<没有点亮的灯>展示了20世纪初美国人的心态和内心世界孤独、无助、彷徨、漂泊不定;永远在追求,却得不到所追求的一切;常被人误解,却又想了解他人,以致他们无不生活在困惑中.     

Expertise: Between the Scylla of certainty and the new age charybdis

Scientists should be seen as expert advisors rather than producers of certainty. The progress of scientific controversies shows both why this is the case, and why it is so little understood. Those very close to the research front are aware of the many points at which experimental procedures and theoretical arguments could be wrong. They understand the ‘expert’ quality of their conclusions. Those further distanced from the research front are unaware of the immense complexity of the research and, consequently, are more certain of the truth of science.

That scientific results are less conclusive than they are generally taken to be does not mean that ‘anything goes’. There is a difference between experts and non‐experts; it is just that experts should not be expected to agree. Scientific controversies rarely end; it is usual to find equally well qualified experts on both sides of a scientific debate long after a view has been reached throughout the larger part of the scientific community.     

A spatio-temporal model for assessing winter damage risk to east coast vineyards

Climate is an essential component in site suitability for agriculture in general, and specifically in viticulture. With the recent increase in vineyards on the East Coast, an important climactic consideration in site suitability is extreme winter temperature. Often, maps of annual minimum temperatures are used to determine cold hardiness. However, cold hardiness of grapes is a more complicated process, since the temperature that grapes are able to withstand without damage is not constant. Rather, recent temperature cause acclimation or deacclimation and hence, have a large influence on cold hardiness. By combining National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather station data and leveraging recently created cold hardiness models for grapes, we develop a dynamic spatio-temporal model to determine the risk of winter damage due to extreme cold for several grape varieties commonly grown in the eastern United States. This analysis provides maps of winter damage risk to three grape varieties, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Concord.

A Study on Reliability for A Two-Item Cold Standby Markov Repairable System with Neglected Failures

This article studies reliability for a Markov repairable two-item cold standby system with neglected failures. In the system, if a failed time of the system is too short (less than a given critical value) to cause the system to fail, then the failed time may be omitted from the downtime record, i.e., the failure effect could be neglected. In ion-channel modeling, this situation is called the time interval omission problem. The availability indices and the mean downtime are presented as two measures of reliability for this repairable system. Some numerical examples are shown to illustrate the results obtained in this article.

论两极格局形成与冷战爆发--一种建构主义解析

冷战是第二次世界大战结束后国际社会中持续时间最长同时也是最重大的历史事件。各国学术界对冷战起源问题的研究从未终止,但始终对冷战的爆发时间莫衷一是。文章认为,冷战的爆发与两极格局的确立交织在一起,对冷战爆发问题研究的症结在于对国际格局的不同定义及对两极格局形成的不同认识上。对格局定义及形成标志的模糊认知将对冷战爆发的判断造成直接影响。国际格局包括国际战略关系格局与力量关系格局。两极格局的形成与冷战的爆发是相伴而生的。     

毫米波宽带TWT双交错慢波结构的理论

分析了两种新型的毫米波耦合腔TWT的慢波电路-交错式梯形电路。提出了一种求解双交错梯形电路色散特性的新方法:腔场平均法,验证了此方法的正确性,并进行了数值计算。分析了影响双交错带宽的诸因素,得到了40％的冷带宽及20％的热带宽。同时对单交错和双交错电路的带宽和耦合阻抗进行了比较。
