本文用形象的视觉画面进行恰当的组合编辑并与文字语言相互对应 ,体现了思想教育专题片的创作意图 ,达到了从抽象思维到形象思维的转换过程 ,取得了较好的教育效果。在思想教育专题片的形象设计与后期制作上 ,提出了许多值得认真推敲的问题。     

Crime in the Movies: Investigating the Efficacy of Measures of Both Sex and Gender for Predicting Victimization and Offending in Film

In the wake of several recent school shootings claims have been made that teens, particularly males, learn violence from the media. This paper investigates depictions of criminals and victims in film, specifically in reference to the gendered nature of violent crime, utilizing a content analysis of popular domestic movies in 1996. We develop a gender measure that is separate and distinct from sex in order to test the relationship between both variables and movie offending and victimization. In our sample, masculinity was significantly related to both movie offending and victimization, but sex was not. This pattern of results indicate that the media may be influential in establishing values that accept violence as one means to accomplish masculinity.     

Restructuring for Whom? Race,Class, Gender,and the Ideology of Invisibility

This paper examines how changes resulting from economic restructuring affect views of racial inequality across different race, class, and gender groups. First reviewing some of the consequences of restructuring for different race, class, and gender groups, the paper also reviews research documenting the different views of racial inequality held by dominant and subordinate groups. The paper concludes by examining how race-blind ideologies affect discussions of race and multiculturalism and suggests that race-blind thinking has thwarted teaching about structural racism.     

Bayesian incidence analysis of animal tumorigenicity data

Statistical inference about tumorigenesis should focus on the tumour incidence rate. Unfortunately, in most animal carcinogenicity experiments, tumours are not observable in live animals and censoring of the tumour onset times is informative. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian method for analysing data from such studies. Our approach focuses on the incidence of tumours and accommodates occult tumours and censored onset times without restricting tumour lethality, relying on cause-of-death data, or requiring interim sacrifices. We represent the underlying state of nature by a multistate stochastic process and assume general probit models for the time-specific transition rates. These models allow the incorporation of covariates, historical control data and subjective prior information. The inherent flexibility of this approach facilitates the interpretation of results, particularly when the sample size is small or the data are sparse. We use a Gibbs sampler to estimate the relevant posterior distributions. The methods proposed are applied to data from a US National Toxicology Program carcinogenicity study.     

An ecological investigation of the incidence of cancer in Welsh children for the period 1985–1994 in relation to residence near the coastline

An alarming report from an environmental pressure group raised concerns about childhood leukaemia and the Irish Sea. In response, this ecological study explores the hypotheses that childhood cancer rates are increased by living near the coast of Wales, especially in the north, and in particular near estuaries and mud-flats. Using Poisson regression to adjust for possible confounding variables, no evidence was found for a coastline proximity effect at the level of census wards (5 km). Moreover the rates were significantly lower near estuaries than for the rest of the coast, but there was a small but non-significant increase near mud-flats. Case–control modelling of postcoded cases living within the coastal wards using Stone's method also failed to detect any monotonic reduction in relative risk near the coastline.

城市电影作为时代的记录者与预言家,不仅是审视乡土中国与城市中国交叠更替的一面明镜,亦是考察现代性体验的多维视野。本文以《顽主》、《洗澡》、《立春》三部电影作为解读改革开放30年城市变迁的影像标本,从城市文化学的角度分析北京影像所构筑的都市空间,探讨电影与城市的关系、城与人的关系、人与社会的关系,以及隐藏在这些错综复杂的关系网络背后的现代性想象对于当代中国社会发展的现实价值与启示意义。     

新时期以来京味文学研究述评

本文对新时期以来的京味文学研究状况进行梳理,认为传统的京味文学研究已经基本完成,京味文学的审美形态及其内涵与构成要素已经基本清晰;目前和未来的京味文学的创作和研究,应该扩大视野,发展一种更为广泛的北京书写与城市研究的路向。     

Using digital storytelling as a source of empowerment for rural women in Benin

ABSTRACT

Digital storytelling offers a combination of traditional storytelling and new technologies that is attracting attention from feminist researchers aiming to co-create research in empowering ways for participants, allowing them to collaborate, build shared awareness of issues, and share their priority issues with decision-makers and power-holders. This article focuses on digital storytelling in research into the role of Mothers’ Associations in influencing families, communities, and political decision-makers to promote girls’ education in Benin.     

Digital survivance and Trickster humor: exploring visual and digital Indigenous epistemologies in the #NoDAPL movement

ABSTRACT

The decolonizing turn in the humanities and social sciences calls for scholarship that analyzes social media practices through the lens of Indigenous epistemologies. In this article, we model the ways that Indigenous epistemologies might contribute to theories of social media practices as we explore ways that the digital image can drive identification with and engagement in political acts. The article analyzes social media tropes circulated across various platforms among Indigenous communities and allies in relation to the #NoDAPL movement. We argue that attempting to analyze Native American traditions through Western theory will only work towards colonizing these Indigenous texts. Thus, whereas we employ insights from digital and visual methods of analysis (Highfield, T., & Leaver, T. (2016). Instagrammatics and digital methods: Studying visual social media, from selfies and GIFs to memes and emoji. Communication Research and Practice, 2(1), 47–62), we also highlight the strategic use of humor in the visual materials shared through various social media platforms utilizing the framework of the Trickster. We argue that the visual and digital phenomena we studied might best be understood as a form of digital survivance, drawing upon Anishinaabe scholar Gerald Vizenor [(1994). Manifest manners: Postindian warriors of survivance. Hanover, CT: Wesleyan University Press]. term ‘survivance’ as a portmanteau that combines ‘survival’ and ‘resistance’ in its characterization of Indigenous storytelling traditions. Whereas centering the Indigenous figure of the Trickster might suggest that social media has failed to live up to its promises, this epistemological approach also explains the hope that Indigenous communities hold in uniting via social media for what has been and continues to be a long-term battle for sovereignty and for the protection of the earth and all of its beings.
