A Bayesian False Discovery Rate for Multiple Testing

Case-control studies of genetic polymorphisms and gene-environment interactions are reporting large numbers of statistically significant associations, many of which are likely to be spurious. This problem reflects the low prior probability that any one null hypothesis is false, and the large number of test results reported for a given study. In a Bayesian approach to the low prior probabilities, Wacholder et al. (2004) suggest supplementing the p-value for a hypothesis with its posterior probability given the study data. In a frequentist approach to the test multiplicity problem, Benjamini & Hochberg (1995) propose a hypothesis-rejection rule that provides greater statistical power by controlling the false discovery rate rather than the family-wise error rate controlled by the Bonferroni correction. This paper defines a Bayes false discovery rate and proposes a Bayes-based rejection rule for controlling it. The method, which combines the Bayesian approach of Wacholder et al. with the frequentist approach of Benjamini & Hochberg, is used to evaluate the associations reported in a case-control study of breast cancer risk and genetic polymorphisms of genes involved in the repair of double-strand DNA breaks.

中国“左翼”运动与延安红色文艺

中国左翼文学生成于20世纪"红色30年代"的国际背景之下,早期中国共产党领袖人物瞿秋白和德高望重的大作家鲁迅先生等诸多文化先驱对苏联文学理论的翻译传播壮大了左翼文艺运动的力量。40年代的延安红色文艺直接师承左翼运动,左翼运动为延安红色文艺至少准备了四笔财富:(1)准备了理论基础,例如"阶级斗争理论"、文艺的阶级性、文艺是阶级斗争的"工具"武器"等;(2)革命文学创作经验,例如较好地处理了文学与政治的关系,较好地解决了文学大众化的问题等;(3)红色文艺的领导干部和文艺家队伍,例如周扬、丁玲、萧军等;(4)作家主体意识,例如强烈的社会批判精神等。延安红色文艺思想理论的形成有效地吸纳了前三笔财富,而对第四笔则作了有效的规范,此后,在相当长的年代里作家主体消解在社会主体"工农兵"之中。其间所发生的无数次文艺运动,都与这笔财富被规范有关。     

Financial inclusion through a public works programme: Does left‐wing extremism make a difference?

Using district‐level household data, the study investigates the impact of left wing extremism (LWE) violence on financial inclusion in India. Exploiting the staggered roll‐out of a major public works programme, we find that the programme has the potency to improve financial inclusion, notwithstanding the deleterious effects of higher LWE violence. These findings are, however, different in the post‐Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (Prime Minister's People Money Scheme) phase, especially in the short run wherein there is an increase in both access to and use of finance. The findings are consistent with the citizen support model and suggest that demonstrable government commitment in the form of spending on public works has the capacity to raise financial inclusion, even if the programme occurs in LWE‐affected districts.

责任与担当:左翼乡土小说家缘何“想象”革命

左翼乡土小说家虽然在大革命时期大都从事过实际的革命活动,有着一定的城市革命体验,但除了少数作家以外,大部分都没有农村革命或苏区生活的经历体验。在大革命失败后,他们转而以笔为旗投身于文学创作之中,基本上也是在上海、北京这样的通都大邑卖文求生,与实际的革命活动尤其是土地革命有着一定的距离,因而他们只能依据自己以往的革命体验和"耳食"到的一些材料对农村革命进行文学想象。

北京地区汉族人群ITGA6基因多态性与前列腺癌的易感性研究

目的探讨北京地区汉族人群中ITGA6基因多态性与前列腺癌遗传易感性的关系。方法采用病例对照研究,提取121例前列腺患者(病例组)和136例非前列腺癌健康人(对照组)外周血中基因组DNA,采用聚合酶链反应-高分辨熔解曲线(PCR-HRM)技术结合测序验证法检测其ITGA6基因rs12621278单核苷酸多态性的分布情况,分析ITGA6基因多态性与前列腺癌的相关性。结果①前列腺癌组中AA,AG,GG基因型分别为69例(57%),40例(33.1%),12例(9.9%);正常对照组中AA,AG,GG基因型分别为69例(50.7%),55例(40.4%),12例(8.8%)。②ITGA6基因rs12621278单核苷酸多态性的三种基因型频率在前列腺癌组和正常对照组间的分布无显著差异(χ2=1.498,P=0.473),两种等位基因频率在两组间的分布也无显著差异(χ2=0.43,P=0.512)。结论 ITGA6基因rs12621278单核苷酸多态性与北京地区汉族人群前列腺癌的发生无明显相关性,可能与中国人前列腺癌发病风险无关。
