Constructing prevention programmes with a Māori health service provider view

Mainstream approaches to chronic condition management and prevention inadequately address the needs of Māori, the Indigenous people of New Zealand. Māori health service providers (MHSPs) are uniquely placed to address the critical gap in the prevention of chronic conditions. In this paper, we report qualitative research findings investigating how prevention was being modelled, practiced and measured in selected MHSP settings. Results indicate barriers to achieving wellbeing through health service delivery. The dominant individualistic, medical conditions-focused discourse, along with responding to acute need, is a driver of service delivery norms.There are examples of shifts in organisational structure and delivery configurations that demonstrate that these norms are being challenged and reframed, in some form, by MHSPs. Consolidation of these approaches requires significant work and increased resources as well as a broader systems-level response that prioritises prevention.     

Exploring the unknown aspects of Roma community in Cyprus and the role of social work practice

The status quo of Roma communities in Europe is strongly marked by marginalisation and discrimination. Roma people tend to face social exclusion and segregation leading to lack of education, chronic unemployment and limited access to healthcare, housing and public services as well as widespread poverty. Very few studies have been conducted as far as Roma community in Cyprus are concerned and almost none has explored quality of life of this ethnic minority. Therefore, this article examines quality of life dimensions in approximately half of the population (n?=?156) residing in the catchment area. Both quantitative and qualitative results showed poor standards of living, high school dropout rates and high levels of marginalisation. Social work as discipline can foster a more empowering and coordinating role as to enhance Roma’s distinctive identity and improve standards of living.     

Interval estimation: An information theoretic approach

ABSTRACT

We develop here an alternative information theoretic method of inference of problems in which all of the observed information is in terms of intervals. We focus on the unconditional case in which the observed information is in terms the minimal and maximal values at each period. Given interval data, we infer the joint and marginal distributions of the interval variable and its range. Our inferential procedure is based on entropy maximization subject to multidimensional moment conditions and normalization in which the entropy is defined over discretized intervals. The discretization is based on theory or empirically observed quantities. The number of estimated parameters is independent of the discretization so the level of discretization does not change the fundamental level of complexity of our model. As an example, we apply our method to study the weather pattern for Los Angeles and New York City across the last century.

意识形态马哲实质社会状况的契合及意义

分析认为,建党九十周年以来,我国的社会存在状况发生了巨大的变化,党的意识形态建设、我国学术界对马克思主义哲学实质的理解都取得了多个创新的理论成果。本文旨在探寻三者之间的内在契合,即在落后国家建立社会主义需要＂必然性＂体系;改革开放期需要以＂实践＂为核心范畴的体系;现今需要以＂现实的人＂为核心理念的体系。     

溶胶-凝胶法制备纳米TiO2及其光催化降解甲醛的研究

用溶胶-凝胶合成纳米TiO2光催化剂．并在其悬浮体系中对甲醛进行光催化降解实验，考察了溶胶一凝胶法中酸量、乙醇量和热处理温度等对甲醛降解活性的影响．结果表明．溶胶一凝胶法制备的TiO2具有很好的光催化降解甲醛活性．最佳的制备条件是钛酸丁醋；乙醇：盐酸：水=20ml：80ml；3．5ml：l0ml，煅烧温度550℃。

向偶然性进军的虚无主义历程

伴随着现代性进程的是对偶然性(自然、历史、自我)的驯服,或者说,对偶然性的驯服是现代性进程的精神特质。反顾这一驯服偶然性的现代性进程,我们发现,它表现为一种虚无化过程:从对自然的虚无化到对历史的虚无化、再到对主体自身的虚无化。这种虚无化的现身形态就是晚期现代哲学家或后现代哲学家们所说的虚无主义。通过与前科学世界的对比和对现代世界和后现代世界中的偶然性作一种专题性的考察,我们对偶然性、现代性和虚无主义做了深入的分析和清理,展示了虚无主义进程的内在历史逻辑。
