面纱下的中国形象——从跨文化解读电影《面纱》中的中国形象

电影《面纱》是根据英国著名作家毛姆的同名长篇小说“ThePaintedVeil”改编拍摄。本文试图从跨文化的角度讨论电影《面纱》对中国形象的美化与丑化,反映出西方注视者打量中国的不同目光。     

《古代汉语》中的文化教学

本文认为在古代汉语教学中,在注重字词讲授的基础上,还要注重历史文化的讲授,这样才能更充分的帮助学生理解文意,也可以使更准确的理解词义同时帮助学生了解先民所创造的灿烂的民族文化,培养他们的人文修养,从而激发其学习的主动性和积极性。

文章试图通过一位河南籍农民工在京创业的个案分析,透析影响我国农民工城市化的三大因素——市场经济、法律制度和大众文化.并试图运用话语分析的技术,通过过程分析和事件分析的方式,对上述三大因素发挥作用的机制做初步探讨,希望能对相关领域的研究有所启发.

革命史范式下的五四新文化运动,过多强调激进与革命的一面,导致有很多问题值得重新审视,诸如对白话文和全盘西化的认知。白话文固然有简易通俗等优点,瑕不掩瑜,但其弊端也不容忽视,文言的高雅与形式的完美,白话文与之相去甚远。固有的认知指责新文化运动是“全盘西化”,是对中国传统文化的彻底扬弃,其实也并非如此。中国文化将走向何方,必将是多元并存,中西交流,古今传承。     

‘We've Also Become Quite Good Friends’: Environmentalists,Social Networks and Social Comparison in British Columbia,Canada

Social networks influence social movement recruitment and individuals' ongoing participation in social movement organizations. In this article, we use a qualitative approach to explore the meaning of social networks for environmental movement participants in British Columbia, Canada. Our analysis draws on interviews with 33 core members of the movement. Environmental group participation creates multiplex social networks, encompassing work, leisure and friendship. Social movement networks are conduits for information exchange among environmental groups and they amplify the political power of individual participants. Ties to government workers and forest company management are more intense – based on frequency of contact – than ties to forestry labour or First Nations groups. However, forestry workers and First Nations are viewed more positively than government or forest company management. This illustrates how the intensity of social network ties can be distinguished from the subjective meanings attached to them by network participants.     

Organisational Gothic

This paper illustrates and theorises a tradition of ‘gothic’ representations of organisation in the last two centuries. It links Marx’s conjunction between capital and the vampire, Dickensian melodrama, and Weber and Kafka’s labyrinthine bureaucracy, to contemporary films that show power‐crazed lunatics at the top of corporate skyscrapers. I argue that this represents a powerful form of cultural critique through representation. Organisational gothic is, I believe, one cultural trope that has commonly been employed in order to reframe sanitised visions of a brave new world. More generally, the paper also exemplifies a certain approach to the cultural aspects of organization, in this case by making a claim for the importance of a cultural history of representations of industry and organisation.     

Family Man or Conqueror? - Contested Meanings in an Engineering Company

This paper explores significant symbols within a multi-national company called Engco . First, the metaphor of Engco as a family was prevalent among middle and junior managers. Second, there was a corporate image conveyed by top management through glossy publications, a masculine image of conquering competitors and the physical environment. These contradictory symbols appeared to co-exist at different levels of the organisation. Third, a symbol that appeared common to the entire organisation, although increasingly contested, was that of engineering, an image generally associated with male actors. Fourth, more equivocal, were references to a 'golden age' for the company in the post war period, when manufacturing was in its heyday. The paper discusses how these symbols worked with and against each other. All the symbols were found to differing degrees to shape particular constructions of masculinity and femininity within the organisation, which limited the expression of identity of both men and women. The paper suggests that Engco's organisational culture was in flux, and discusses both the role of management at different levels of the organisation as creators and consumers of image and identity, and the organisational construction of gender. The paper takes a symbolic interpretative approach and discusses both the theoretical background and methodology employed.     

Magic Thinking

Derek Freeman, When S.F. Nadel3 who was the Foundation Professor of Anthropology in the Research School of Pacific Studies at the Australian ‘National University, was on study leave in England in 1955, he recorded two talks for the BBC entitled ‘Magic Thinking’. The texts of these talks were deposited in the Department of Anthropology following Professor Nadel's death in 1956. To the best of our knowledge they have never previously been published. It is considered appropriate that these talks should appear in the first issue of Canberra Anthropology, which is being edited by research students in the discipline that Professor Nadel so effectively established at the Australian National University.
