Cross-disciplinary Collaboration and Health Promotion in Schools

Abstract

School-based social workers, collaborating with teachers, can contribute to the development of the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for individuals to live healthy lives both in the short and long term. This article reports on a case study that investigated the effectiveness of the input of social work into a school-based health promotion model. Results indicated that cross-disciplinary collaboration was dependent on a number of factors: commitment to the value of cross-disciplinary collaboration, the clear identification and articulation of the expert skills and knowledge that each discipline brings to the collaboration, and on the effective negotiation of the contribution of each discipline's expert skills and knowledge to the collaboration. When these factors are embedded in a school's formal and professional arrangements, then cross-disciplinary collaboration is more effective. This research provides theoretical and practical lessons for those embarking on cross-disciplinary collaborations in the school setting.     

Weaving the Diverse ‘Seeds’ of Knowledge

Inspiration in the journey through my academic career has come from diverse sources and been enriched through continual reflection. The disciplines of anthropology and human ecology have been only one source of ideas. The other source of enrichment is the domain of local knowledge—the product of the local people's struggles to stay alive in a changing environment. Through hard work they strive for improved prosperity and a more sustainable environment; from them I learned the meaning of life.

M. Junus Melalatoa's ethnographic poem entitled Cipayung Petang (1987) in Winarto & Sulistiawati 2006, p. 35) appropriately represents my reflection:

SUMMARY

Social Work education relies heavily on agency-based field instruction to assist students in developing skills, and in integrating theory, practice, and research. Web-based components of field instruction may offer advantages in the integrative process, which relies on reflection, responsive communication, and feedback. Using an online format for the integrative field seminar, a new MSW advanced genera-list program in a large metropolitan area implemented an experimental model for delivery of field seminars. Results indicate high student satisfaction, greater depth of discussion, improved student involvement, and integration of learning in field.     

首都经济圈内涵及产业空间再造路径探讨

"首都经济圈"在区域经济一体化的背景下需要重新认识界定。从区域可持续发展角度来看,"首都经济圈"是一个包括京津核心区、河北延伸区和晋陕蒙能源环境保障区的广阔区域。这是基于经济生态主体功能内在联系的区域综合,突出体现在产业分工深化中的区域产业空间结构调整。为此,我们提出应以产业集群为基础进行首都经济圈产业空间再造,借助市场力量促进资源在区域间的流动。具体以资源—共享资源为切入点发挥政府的导向作用,改变过去单纯依赖行政力量进行产业结构布局调整的思路,从不同行为主体利益出发,通过专有资源与通用资源的互动转化实现资源共享,在京津冀晋陕蒙主体功能定位基础上整合产业集群分工体系,构建"滨海新区—天津—北京"轴状延伸的城市产业空间布局。     

Assessing Social Work Field Education: Towards Standardising Fieldwork Assessment in New Zealand

Assessment is a core feature of social work field education and enables both ongoing formative processes of monitoring and feedback and summative assessment of a student's competence at the conclusion of a fieldwork placement. In New Zealand, tertiary providers of social work programmes currently have considerable discretion in monitoring and assessing students' competence in their fieldwork placements. The variation in social work field education curriculum, particularly in assessment, can create confusion for employers and does not enable a streamlined process towards provisional registration as a social worker. This article proposes the development of national standards in field education learning outcomes to strengthen current field education programmes, to create a pathway for provisional registration with the Social Workers Registration Board and to increase clarity for employers both in domestic and overseas markets.

新型农民合作经济组织参与乡村治理,是对乡村治理和农民合作经济组织的理论与实践提出了一个崭新课题。新型农民合作经济组织存在于乡村社会,其产生与发展必然使其成为新兴的、重要的治理主体,逐步嵌入到乡村治理中,形成新的乡村治理模式,改变着乡村治理的政治、经济、社会生态。文章基于新型农民合作经济组织的视角,从这一崭新课题的研究背景和意义、国内外研究现状、研究的基本目标、主要内容和方法等方面,来探讨嵌入新型农民合作经济组织的乡村治理理论与实践问题。     

从语义学角度谈外语词汇教学

词汇是外语语言教学的一个重要部分。但是,对于大多数教师和学生来讲,词汇的教和学都不是一个简单的过程。传统的词汇教学方法就是让学生记忆大量的单词。实际上,这种效果收效甚微。本文试图从语义学的理论角度出发,探讨一些对词汇教学有用的教学方法。     

中阿经贸合作的动力分析与路径选择

从1956年中国与埃及建交到1990年中国与沙特建交,中国与所有阿拉伯国家建立并保持了良好的外交关系。经过50多年共同努力,中阿经贸合作已进入全方位、多领域的全面合作阶段。双边贸易、工程承包、劳务合作、双向投资、人员培训等领域合作都取得积极进展。经贸关系的迅猛发展,带动文化、教育、体育和卫生等各领域交流与合作蓬勃发展。中国已同所有阿拉伯国家签订《文化合作协定》,“汉语热”持续升温。但中阿经贸关系依然需要创新求进,不断拓展深化,同时必须注意前瞻调研和及时应对,努力规避因中东形势动荡冲击而形成的各类风险。
