From Restored Past to Unsettled Present: New Challenges for Jewish Museums in East Central Europe

This article examines the institutional development of Jewish museums in Prague, Budapest, and Bratislava from 1989 to the present, with special reference to their role as agents of cultural memory. I consider how these museums contribute to the formation of Jewish identities in post-communist societies, which are themselves struggling to form collective identities. After analyzing the institutional structures and exhibition concepts of these museums in relation to shifts in the politics of representation, I propose a core area on which each museum could base its future development.     

Suitable Algorithm Associated with a Parameterization for the Three-Parameter Log-Normal Distribution

Associated with a parameterization for the three-parameter lognormal distribution, an algorithm was proposed by Komori and Hirose, which can find a local maximum likelihood (ML) estimate surely if it exists. Nevertheless, by Vera and Díaz-García it was shown that performance in finding a local ML estimate deteriorated by adopting the parameterization only and using other algorithm. In the present article, it will be shown that Komori and Hirose’s algorithm should be used for the parameterization. This work will also give MATLAB codes as a useful tool for the parameter estimation of the distribution.     

Time to Diagnosis: Accounting for Differential Endpoint Follow-up in Multi-Cohort Studies

Cox regression is widely used to analyze discrete survival time data. Differential endpoint follow-up across sub-cohorts where distribution of a covariate varies may cause typical estimators to be biased or inefficient. We demonstrate that with Cardiovascular Health Study data for incident type 2 diabetes. Two cohorts with extremely different race distribution have differential follow-up for fasting glucose levels. We study various scenarios of Cox regression. We suggest an alternative approach, Poisson generalized estimating equations with an offset to accommodate the differential follow-up. We use simulations to contrast the methods.

在中国传统社会,为解决大国家与弱国家条件下的乡村社会秩序问题,国家借重两种力量,一是以家庭为基础的私的力量,一是以宗族为基础的带有半公性质的力量。较小的家庭规模,无法解决传统农业社会所需要的基本秩序。传统中国农村基层社会的自治,是以相对自主的地方性规范及相对自主的地方自治组织的强有力存在为前提的。这构成了我们继续讨论传统中国农民行动逻辑的基础。

当代美国中小学生道德养成的学校策略——托马斯·里克纳的理论与实践

托马斯·里克纳在确立尊重与责任为核心价值观的基础上,把由道德认知、道德体会与道德行为三要素有机结合而成的“品格教育”视为中小学生道德养成理论的核心内容。根据这一理论,托马斯·里克纳提出了开展隐性教育,营造校园道德文化气氛、课程教育、民主模式的课堂生活、故事讨论法及角色模拟训练等道德养成的途径和方法。这些理论与实践策略对当前我国中小学生道德教育有着重要的借鉴意义。     

高效液相色谱法对芳香族化合物的分离

首先合成了醋酸纤维素,涂渍修饰硅胶,得到涂渍型高效液相色谱固定相,在40 MPa压力下装入色谱柱。在高效液相色谱正相色谱条件下,分别对4种芳香族含氮化合物、3种芳香族含卤化合物进行了分离,在所选择的色谱条件下,都达到了基线分离,效果良好。应用该色谱固定相,可以实现芳香族化合物的分离。

"苦撑待变"是太平洋战争爆发前国民政府的抗日外交战略.一般认为,该战略是在全面抗战爆发后提出的,其特征是消极待援.本文认为,"苦撑待变"战略是在全面抗战前数年就产生的.它的提出是国民政府对中国国情与国际地位、对日本侵略野心和国际形势演变趋势正确判断的必然产物.中国政府为实施这一外交战略,进行了积极的外交活动,这主要表现在进行舆论宣传、努力争取外援、呼吁制裁侵略及反对妥协和倡议反侵略国家进行合作等方面."苦撑待变"的实质是积极促进国际形势朝向有利于中国的方向演变,而非一味消极待变.苦撑待变战略的实施,使中国赢得了国际社会的尊重,促成了国际形势的演变,因而是成功的外交战略.
