Personalization,gender, and social media: gubernatorial candidates’ social media strategies

This study focuses on the ‘self-personalization’ of campaign politics, marked by candidates highlighting their personal lives over their policy positions. Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press.], which holds that women politicians try to deactivate stereotypes that associate men with agentic leadership traits while capitalizing on stereotypes that associate them with warmth, we assess what role gender plays in candidate self-personalization on social media. A large-scale computerized content analysis of social media posts by gubernatorial candidates in 2014 suggests that male candidates may see more and female candidates see less strategic benefits in personalizing, but this effect does not persist in the face of electoral contextual variables like competitiveness. We also find qualitative differences in the ways male versus female candidates personalize through social media.     

Collective Power to Create Political Change: Increasing the Political Efficacy and Engagement of Social Workers

Because social workers are called to challenge social injustices and create systemic change to support the well-being of individuals and communities, it is essential that social workers develop political efficacy: belief that the political system can work and they can influence the system. This study explored the impact of an intensive political social work curriculum on political efficacy and planned political engagement among social work students and practitioners. The findings suggest this model of delivering a political social work curriculum effectively increases internal, external, and overall political efficacy, and that increasing political efficacy has promise for increasing future political engagement.     

The White House and public relations: Examining the linkages between presidential communications and public opinion

This study investigates the linkages between presidential public relations activities—speeches and press conferences—and public opinion towards the presidency from 1961 to 1997. The results show that there is a positive linkage between presidential news conferences and foreign policy job approval, and between presidential speeches and general as well as foreign policy job approval. Overall, the findings reveal stronger linkages between presidential news conferences and job approval than between presidential speeches and job approval, but also that the topic of the information subsidies and the specific type of job approval matters.     

The interactive effects of political skill and future time perspective on career and community networking behavior

Scholars have suggested that skill (Ferris et al., 2007) and motivation (Forret and Dougherty, 2001) need to be considered in predicting the direction and intensity of networking behaviors. Congruently, the present study argues that skill and motivation operate interactively and assesses the interactive impact of political skill (i.e., the ability to interact effectively with others) and future time perspective on differentially predicting community-based and career-based networking behavior. Results from a sample of managers from a national retail chain (n = 291) indicated that politically skilled individuals who possessed a deep future time perspective were more involved in career-related networking than politically skilled individuals who perceived a shallow future time perspective. Additionally, politically skilled respondents with shallow organizational time perspectives engaged in higher levels of community-based networking than did their counterparts with deeper organizational time perspectives. The implications of these findings are discussed in terms of political skill, social networks, and socioemotional selectivity theory.     

论以色列阿拉伯人的政治参与

以色列人口中有20%是阿拉伯公民。在2009年2月举行的以色列第18届国会选举中有13名阿拉伯议员当选,在国会中所占的比例远低于其人口比例。这些阿拉伯议员分别来自阿拉伯民族主义政党、以色列共产党和三个犹太复国主义政党。从以色列建国60年来阿拉伯公民参加国会选举的情况分析,阿拉伯公民在以色列的政治参与经历了质与量两方面的变化,即政治自决程度从低到高、从附属走向独立;但同时阿拉伯公民的政治参与度却逐渐走低,尤其是进入21世纪以来甚至降到了很危险的地步。阿拉伯公民对政治现状失去信心和热情,不仅削弱了以色列左翼势力,也在相当程度上影响了以色列国内政局的发展以及中东政策的制定。     

2009年中东大选述评

2009年,以色列、伊朗和阿富汗等中东国家相继举行大选。以色列利库德集团时隔四年重执权柄,伊朗保守派竞选连任成功,阿富汗普什图族则再掌政权。中东大选表现出社会政治发展的转型性和国家安全的现实威胁性两大共性特征,而不同的历史文化又使其表现出政治发展道路的多样性和政治发展水平的不平衡性等个性特征。一系列大选将对巴以和平进程、伊朗核问题和阿富汗重建产生一定的影响。     

中国农村税费尾欠与村庄筹资能力问题分析

本文基于一个全国6省116个村庄2000年和2004年的调查数据,对中国农村税费尾欠和村级债务问题的现状,及其在税费体制改革前后的变化进行了简要分析.税费改革前尾欠农业税的农户数和尾欠税费的数额已经较大,税费改革以后则有进一步的上升,这对基层财务运转造成很大压力.为了理解村庄筹资困境的成因,本文对税费尾欠和村级债务的影响因素进行了实证分析.研究发现,基层政府和村干部之间的政治关系网络是导致这一问题的深层原因.

让“生命线”延伸在法治的轨道上——法治视角下的新《政工条例》

政治工作是我军的“生命线”,通过立法手段将这条“生命线”确定延续下来,是我党一贯的做法。2010年修订的《中国人民解放军政治工作条例》,注入浓厚的法治因子,再度为开展整治工作提供了最高依据,是捍卫“生命线”的坚强法治保障。     

论高校思想政治教育（心理咨询方向）专业的实践价值与特色

鉴于教育部普通本科专业目录中没有心理咨询专业,兰州城市学院创新性的设立了思想政治教育（心理咨询方向）专业,培养中小学思想品德教育教师兼心理咨询辅导师,2011年第一届毕业生即将毕业。有效解决了因为编制限制而造成的思想品德教师不能很好的适应课程内容心理学化需要和兼任心理咨询辅导师的问题。其毕业生既能提高中小学思想品德教育教师的教学质量,又能满足中小学思想品德教育教师兼任心理咨询辅导师的需要,解决编制限制问题。这一实验结果再次表明,高等学校专业特色的创建必须立足思想和实践的创新。
