根治当代灾疫的社会学思考（中）

在当代境遇中,要从根本上解决当代灾疫之难这一世界性难题,必须在重建灾疫防治的伦理认知体系基础上,全面反思以人类中心论为价值坐标、以科学理性为思想认知模式、以物质幸福论为目标追求、以傲慢物质霸权主义为行动纲领、以绝对经济技术理性为行动原则的现代主义社会意识形态。在此基础上,抛弃地缘主义生存观、无限掠夺行动模式和惟经济主义发展方式,重建有机论世界观、全球生态主义、限度再生观及其行动方式,重建以自然法则和人性引导政治的生境主义政治学及其实践模式。     

英、美、荷高等教育专业认证模式比较与借鉴

专业认证是世界高等教育外部保障体系的重要组成部分,目前世界高等教育专业认证主要有三种模式:专业认证从属型模式、专业认证与院校认证并重型模式、专业认证主导型模式.了解世界高等教育专业认证模式的形成和发展,对我国高等教育专业评估的未来发展有一定的借鉴意义.     

伊斯兰视阈中的文明对话与全球伦理

关于开展文明对话、构建全球伦理的讨论,是自20世纪90年代以来国际学术界的重大议题,中国学术界也积极参与有关讨论,发表了不少独到的意见。但中国学术界对伊斯兰文明在开展文明对话、构建全球伦理方面所具有的独特价值和意义尚缺乏必要的理解和研究。本文通过对伊斯兰文明及其内在精神的揭示,特别是从伊斯兰文明之源的《古兰经》和圣训的原则精神出发,指出倡导文明对话不仅是伊斯兰文明固有的人文精神,而且也是伊斯兰文明的历史传统;同时,构建全球伦理也是伊斯兰文明始终追求的重要目标,伊斯兰文明丰富的伦理思想为今天的全球伦理建设提供了重要的思想资源,开展平等的文明对话,是构建全球伦理的必由之路。     

Is HRD in need of an ethics of care?

Human Resource Development (HRD) operates within competitive global environments and the changing expectations of societal moral values, which can be in conflict with organizational values, performance, and profit. These are underpinned by the unquestioning acceptance and ‘orthodoxy’ of free‐market economics, legalism, and codes of conduct that result in a lack of ethical analysis within HRD practice. In response to the forgoing, it will be argued that the ethics of care that espouses the values of human relationships, empathy, dignity, and respect is a legitimate approach to free-market lead ethical rule-based rationality that is often presented as the de facto position for HRD professional practice. It presents the ethical debates in which HRD operates within, before arguing for the ethics of care. Three case examples from practice are offered illustrating how HRD practice might respond through the lens of an ethics of care. Reflections and implications for HRD in the form of objections and responses are considered. It concludes that HRD professionals are faced with many difficulties when making decisions, and that the ethics of care offer is an alternative perspective for HRD practitioners.     

From silence to condemnation: Institutional responses to “travel ban” Executive Order 13769

On January 27, 2017, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order that attempted to bar citizens and refugees from seven countries from entering the U.S. for a certain time period. One of the contexts most directly affected by this order was higher education. This study examined college and university communicative responses to the order from a public relations perspective. We qualitatively determined a range of responses from U.S. universities then quantitatively determined variables of particular colleges and universities that had a correlation to the nature of the responses. Responses were then assessed using public relations best practices. The data suggest variables with relationships to type of institutional response were number of international students and political stance of the state where the institution is located. While there was no single “correct” type of response, best practices suggest two options for appropriate responses to the order.     

From knowing to doing: Reflexivity,leadership and public relations

This article argues that little is known in public relations (PR) about the experience of leadership and, more specifically, the challenges associated with enacting desired leadership behaviours in the work place. The study focusses on the personal experiences of PR leaders and considers how exploring the interplay between a leader and their context enhances understanding of the conditions under which knowledge is enacted, or rather not enacted, in different leadership situations. The discussion is informed by perspectives from organization and leadership studies which highlight the importance of reflexivity to leadership learning. In addition to applying a reflexive lens to leadership practice in public relations, the study addresses a lack of empirical research focussing on the situated experiences of PR leaders. It considers the reflexive potential of a programme of interviews with PR practitioners providing examples to illustrate the role this form of research can play in leadership studies. The context investigated concerns the work place experiences of senior PR executives who claim to be ‘empowering leaders’. The discussion of the findings focuses on how organizational power relations distort the practitioners’ espoused leadership values and engages in a process of problematization designed to challenge the uncritical promotion of normative and decontextualised approaches to leadership. The article highlights the benefits of a reflexive orientation to PR leadership research and pedagogy, while calling for the promotion of a particular form of contextual intelligence to help practitioners confront the organizational conditions which specifically impact on their ability to lead others.     

Midwifery Student Evaluation of Practice: The MidSTEP tool — Perceptions of clinical learning experiences

BackgroundLittle emphasis has been given to the standardised measurement of midwifery students’ perceptions of their clinical learning experiences.AimTo develop a tool that evaluates students’ perceptions of their clinical learning experiences according to environment and impact of preceptors on professional development.MethodsA cross-sectional design was used. Tool development had three phases: item generation; expert review to assess clarity, apparent internal consistency and content validity; and psychometric testing. All Bachelor of Midwifery students at one university in Australia were invited to complete the online survey. Psychometric testing included dimensionality, internal consistency and test-retest reliability.ResultsA 74% (n = 279) response rate was achieved. Factor analysis revealed the Clinical Learning Environment Scale and Impact of the Midwifery Preceptor Scale accounting for 53.6% and 71.5% of variance respectively. Both scales were reliable (Cronbach’s alpha = .92 and .94) and valid. Overall, students positively rated the clinical learning environment and preceptors’ abilities to foster their sense of identity as a midwife. Students were less satisfied with preceptors’ understanding of the academic program.DiscussionThe new tool consists of two scales that reliably measure midwifery students’ perceptions of how the clinical learning environment develops their skills and reflects a midwifery philosophy. Preceptors had a positive influence on students’ skills and professional development.ConclusionsThe Midwifery Student Evaluation of Practice tool is the first valid and reliable measure of students’ perceptions of their clinical learning experiences. Students’ feedback provides valuable information to educators and preceptors on how best to optimise clinical learning.
