语言生物机制研究的新视野:FOXP2与人类语言能力

语言的生物机制是生物语言学的核心议题,作为该领域的前沿成果之一,结构基因组学有关FOXP2基因与人类语言能力关系的研究有望为解决语言生物机制的争议性理论问题带来曙光。对KE家族和英国男孩CS的研究从共时角度审视了语言基因突变对人类语言使用及理解的重要影响;探索FOXP2的进化之旅则从历时角度揭示了语言基因对人类演进的重大意义。在此基础上,结构基因组学与语言进化比较研究法的结合可从侧面为回答广义/狭义语言能力与动物交流之间的关系提供科学证据,同时也使我们有理由相信广义语言能力可能还包括一个语言基因组系统。

This paper considers the use of independent student data collection and analysis projects in the teaching of engineering statistics and quality control. It describes the possible forms such projects can take, gives some details of their use at Iowa State University, and argues for their effectiveness in improving learning.     

Diversity as interest-convergence in academia: a critical race theory story

This paper presents a critical race theory story regarding diversity and affirmative action in academia. The story's purpose is to raise issues regarding the treatment of diversity as a commodity in academia and how white faculty seek to privilege themselves in the diversity discourse. The story raises questions regarding the costs and benefits of diversity and affirmative action for minority faculty. The story illustrates how white faculty privilege themselves in diversity discourses by silencing diversity.     

校长培训机构专职教师发展困境的质性研究

校长培训机构的专职教师被视为提升校长培训质量的关键能动者。本文通过对五个培训机构的34位专职教师进行深度访谈与资料分析,描述了中国校长培训机构专职教师发展的现实组织环境及专职教师的工作,深度剖析专职教师发展的困境及其原因。最后,结合我国校长培训的性质,对校长培训机构专职教师的发展提出建议。     

The 100 Most Influential Contemporary Social Work Faculty as Assessed by the H-Index

The names of faculty employed by the 76 member social work programs of the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work were retrieved via a web-search. This resulted in a list of 2204 social work faculty. Their individual H-Indices were then obtained, using either the Publish or Perish software, or via manual calculations from Google Scholar. The top 100 most influential contemporary social work faculty were identified, resulting in a listing of individuals who have published relatively large numbers of scholarly works which themselves have been subsequently highly cited. Apart from recognizing these productive individuals, listing them and their home institutions will permit future researchers to examine the causes and correlates of high academic productivity.     

Two Faculty Groups’ Process in Delivering a Joint MSW Program: Evaluating the Outcome

ABSTRACT

In 1995, two state universities’ Schools of Social Work, 30 miles apart, agreed to implement a joint master's of social work program. In 2011, the Council on Social Work Education reaccredited the program. This qualitative study describes the stages of development of the group of faculty members based on Tuckman's perspective. Through surveys, interviews, and focus-group reports, a combination of convenience and purposive subsamples with a total of 22 participants provided data on the program strengths and limitations, as well as the new trends identified in the field of social work. The findings of this exploratory design study include program strengths such as availability of personal and technical resources, adequate faculty communication processes, and their willingness to change and embrace innovations. The program limitations include the diversity of faculty members and their different subcultures, the large number of students, and the recurrent disruptions of the distance-learning technology system. The inclusion of new trends in the field of social work is required to effectively educate students to meet their future clients’ expectations. Due to its qualitative methodology using nonprobability sampling strategies and a small sample size, the generalizability of this study is limited.     

The Faculty Meeting: Practicing Social Justice-Oriented Group Work

Social group work scholars and practitioners have begun to locate and recognize important sites for thinking about and practicing social group work as increasing evidence demonstrates its diminishing importance. This article identifies faculty meetings as a significant site for integrating social group work more fully into departments and schools of social work and helping to achieve the profession's social justice mission. Challenging the meaning of the faculty meeting and thinking of it as a faculty group is a necessary prerequisite to realize this goal. A set of principles is presented and next steps explored to reclaim and reinsert the value of social group work for the profession today.
