The production and reproduction of Chinese and Taiwanese identities in Taiwan’s popular songs

This article charts the impact of Chinese and Taiwanese identities on popular songs in Taiwan in three major historical periods: the Japanese colonization between 1895 and 1945; the Kuomintang (KMT) rule between 1945 and 1987; and the cultivation of Taiwanese identity since the 1980s. By exploring the historical processes of nation-building on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, this article demonstrates how socio-political transformations have produced, reproduced and mediated both Chinese nationalism and Taiwanese identity, and the role of popular songs in that process. It shows how, since 1895, the themes of popular songs have developed through processes of ‘de-Japanizing’ to ‘de-Sinolizing’ to ‘Taiwanizing’. The political and cultural forces which have affected both Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese identities are evident in the changing market for Taiwan’s popular songs. At a period when questions of political and cultural identity are still hotly debated in Taiwan, popular songs now seek to integrate its multiple identities.

二百年来奥斯汀小说的接受与传播过程,为如何看待和对待文学经典提供了丰富的启示。奥斯汀的小说经历了自身价值不断被发现与显现、在多重外力作用下从通俗文学走向文学经典的过程;在大众消费文化时代,奥斯汀小说作为源文本不断衍生、被开发,由文学资源成为文化产业链的资本。大众传播形式固然有削弱文学经典严肃性和深度感的一面,但经典本来就是一个不断建构的过程,各种重构和阐释为奥斯汀创作注入活力、延续生命,构建出文学经典与大众文化的良性互动关系。     

Queering the Word: Patricia Nell Warren's Adaptation of Christian Sacraments in The Fancy Dancer

The essay explores the ways in which Patricia Nell Warren's The Fancy Dancer (1976) employs Roman Catholic sacraments to depict the developing sexuality of a young gay priest. The essay explores the parallels between sacramental spiritual development and the individual and communal markers of a burgeoning gay or lesbian identity. Additionally, the novel's connections between conversion narratives and coming-out narratives are examined. The essay argues that Warren, in using the rhetoric, symbols, and models of the Church differently, disrupts the narrow epistemology underlying Christianity. Finally, novels such as Warren's suggest that gay and lesbian authors can adapt elements of Christianity while undermining its oppressive presumptions, and establishing a liberatory rhetoric that maintains the intelligibility and recognizability of familiar Christian models.     

QUEERLY INTIMATE:

This article examines the rise of the Girls' Love (GL) fan fiction community in contemporary China. More specifically, we focus on the ‘Pink Super Girl Bar’, an online fan fiction community devoted to the pairing of the contestants of the 2006 season of Super Girl, an entertainment program featured on Hunan Satellite TV that enjoys great popularity in the Sinophone world. Through an ethnographic account of the formation, convention and performativity of identities and socialities in this community, we demonstrate how Super Girl GL fans mobilize their emotional capital to create artworks, to have fun and to enrich their everyday lives. We argue that the GL fan fiction community has become a space of female homosociality, intimacy and affect in which a new generation of young Chinese women actively enact friendship and female subjectivity in a way that refuses the normalization of gender, sexuality and social relations. Moreover, by linking fan studies to affect studies and emotional geography, and by paying particular attention to indigenous concepts and cultural practices in mainland China's fan communities, we wish to contribute to fan studies with feminist, queer and transnational perspectives.     

信息时代科普演讲的实践境况与传播效果研究

科普演讲是一种富有成效的科普方式。随着互联网的普及与信息化的深入,科普演讲已成为一种新型的知识传播手段和方式,在一定程度上推进了全球智力资源的开放共享,但迄今对它的研究还比较薄弱。本文对信息时代的科普演讲进行了探讨,包括其内涵、特点、优势、主体、受众、内容、方式、成效以及制约因素等。对TED演讲、一席演讲进行了案例分析和比较研究,引入AIDA模型分析其传播效果,提出完善科普演讲的对策：应进一步重视科普及科普演讲;加强传播需求导向的科学研究;推动科普演讲走进课堂,成为当代教育的有机组成部分。     

在"模式化"中生存——评近年通俗小说的创作取向

模式化是通俗小说意义自成所必然采取的手段,也是近年来通俗小说的创作特点和风格特征。近年来通俗小说"模式化"特征集中显示在情节格式和人物造型上。就情节格式而言,近年来通俗小说大都是一种"故事化"的叙述类型;模式化在人物塑造上的体现是类型化和扁平型人物形象的出现,类型化和扁平型人物的根本特性是单纯、明确。所有这些都适应了通俗小说大众化、娱乐性的艺术特质与创作功能。     

欲望魔瓶的倾覆—卫慧小说话语世界

卫慧的小说展现了消费社会中一幅幅欲望魔瓶倾覆后的后现代狂欢的图景。她以欲望狂欢替代理性思考,以另类的当下体验彻底颠覆传统,平面化、颓废、女性私人言说是这位七十年代作家世纪末情绪的特色。可她最终却迷失了自己,在公共价值的笼罩下,自身创作理性精神缺失,文学意蕴消弭,成为一种难以深化的自我和现实。     

分论易整合难——现代通俗文学的整合入史研究

如何把现代通俗文学整合进现代文学史,长期困扰着学界。在具体的现代通俗文学研究中,一直存在着分别论述易、整合入史难的问题。究其原因,乃是因为立足于学习西方进行“借鉴革新”的现代知识精英的文学史构架,对侧重于面向传统进行“继承改良”的现代通俗文学的排斥。然而扎根于本土资源,面对中国问题,现代通俗作家在五四之前的创作已经展现了改良社会、提倡科学与人权等现代启蒙主题,在五四之后也展开了对现代激进思想如“非孝”等的反思。现代通俗作家已经扮演了启蒙先行者的角色,现代通俗文学已经开始“现代化”。因此有必要修正过去以“知识精英话语”为主导的现代文学史,以开放多元的心态,进行认真的学术研究,解决现代通俗文学的入史问题。
