This investigation uses a subjective well-being approach to provide a novel empirical answer to an old normative debate in economic literature: whether consumers use efficiently their income. Based on a large database from Mexico, the paper shows that there exists substantial X-inefficiency in the use of income; even when a relaxed criterion to define the thick frontier is followed. X-inefficiency in the use of income can emerge from personal errors and from social-organization deficiencies. Sustainable development concerns make it critical to focus on reducing X-inefficiency as an alternative way to increase economic well-being. 相似文献

我国合同法所确立的以主观瑕疵为主、客观瑕疵为补充的瑕疵认定标准.充分体现了立法对当事人之间私法自治的尊重.不足的是,在现行法体系内该标准重叠、散乱、过于抽象,且对建筑物等特种标的物尚无明确规范指引,因此弱化了法典的规范效力,徒增司法操作的难度.因此.有必要借鉴欧盟指令和德国新债法等先进法律文本对我国物的瑕疵认定标准进行细化和补充,以期完善我国物的瑕疵担保责任制度,充分保护买方利益.特别是消费者的权益. 相似文献

Children Living Without Their Fathers: Population Estimates and Indicators of Educational Well-being

This paper estimates the number of American children in grades K–12 who live without their biological fathers and examines
the association of absent-father status with children’s well-being. The 2003 Parent and Family Involvement in Education Survey
of the National Household Education Surveys Program (n = 12,426) shows that 28% percent of White students, 39% of Hispanic students, 69% of Black students, and 36% overall live
without their fathers. In bivariate comparisons, absent-father status is associated with reduced well-being: worse health,
lower academic achievement, worse educational experiences, and less parental involvement in school activities. When socio-economic
factors are controlled, father-absence is associated with small deficits of well-being. The findings suggest that the conventional
wisdom may exaggerate the detrimental effects of father absence. 相似文献

Subjective well-being is an increasingly common indicator of adequacy of psychiatric services. An easy-to-administer assessment
tool of subjective well-being that is conceptually sound, valid, and reliable is needed for use in persons with schizophrenia.
The purpose of this paper was to validate the 5-item Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS)-Taiwan version for persons with schizophrenia
living in the community. Specifically, the internal consistency reliability, construct validity and criterion-related validity
were examined. Data were obtained from a total of 443 patients with schizophrenia at multiple areas of Taiwan. Item analysis
and confirmatory factor analysis were performed. The results revealed that the SWLS had good international consistency reliability
and suggested a single-factor structure in life satisfaction among this patient group. The SWLS has good criterion-related
validity with the brief World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment (WHOQOL-BREF). It is concluded that the SWLS
is a sound measurement to be used with persons with schizophrenia living in the community. 相似文献

Using a sample of over 90,000 urban and rura1 residents from the Chinese Social Survey (CSS) and China Genera1 Social Survey (CGSS) from 2003 to 2013, we analyzed the structural features and influencing factors underlying subjective social status in China. Our findings indicate that over these years, such identification has consistently assumed the shape of a bowling pin: those who “identify with a low social status” account for more than half of respondents, a much higher proportion than in most countries. At the individual level, the net effect on subjective social status of such objective indicators as education, income and occupation has been relatively small, and lessened over the ten years. The correlation between subjective perceptions of mobility and subjective social status is quite strong, but the upward impetus provided by perceptions of upward mobility weakened over the period. At the macro-level, the tempo of economic growth failed to raise the level of class identification, and income inequality had a markedly negative effect. Our research findings further demonstrate that curbing the income gap and increasing opportunities for mobility are important for raising the level of class identification during the transition period. 相似文献

Older adults, as active members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), describe multiple benefits of participation in the organization to their overall well-being. This qualitative study examined the perspectives of 20 active participants of a VFW Post and its Ladies Auxiliary. Findings indicate that, for the study participants, the VFW serves as a primary source of cross-generational influence, emotional support, and meaningful activity and provides a safe and secure environment for members. This article provides valuable information that social work researchers and practitioners can use to help increase older adults' civic engagement and address service gaps. 相似文献

Self-regulation, self-management, and coping skills are essential personal attributes for social work graduates who often work with clients with complex and traumatic histories. This study explored self-management skills in students applying for extensions of time to complete assignments. Participants were 117 students enrolled in a second-year undergraduate social work subject. Requests were analyzed in two ways: (1) did the request meet the university policy criteria for approval; and (2) thematic analysis of requests that did not meet criteria to identify the reasons students were providing to support their request. A quarter of students in the course applied for an extension. The overwhelming majority of requests did not meet the university’s policy criteria for approval, with only two having a valid reason and the required documentation. The primary reason for extension requests in this cohort was poor self-management skills, specifically time-management and coping. Despite not meeting university policy requirements, all requests were approved. The results from this study confirm that most students applying for extension requests are not eligible for an extension. The reasons provided demonstrate problems coping with course requirements because of self-management problems. Implications for supporting students and staff are discussed. 相似文献

ABSTRACTObjective: Emerging adulthood is an important phase in the transition to adulthood. Emerging adults experience minimal social control and incomplete development of executive functioning leaving this age-group at risk for misusing this newfound independence. Hence, it is important to understand pathways to support positive development (PD) outcomes. In this study, we examined the relationship between participation in civically engaged learning and PD among first-year college students. Participants: First-year college students (N = 225) were surveyed during the 2012–2013 academic year. Methods: Students were surveyed on measures of PD and engaged learning prior to the beginning (initial survey) and at the end of the first year (final survey) of their undergraduate education. Stepwise linear regression was used to examine the influence of engaged learning on PD outcomes. Results: Engaged learning during the academic year predicted flourishing and students' civic frequency. Also, faith-affiliation and parents' civic frequency contributed to students' civic frequency. Conclusions: Our interpretation of the findings suggests that engaged learning and family role modeling may promote PD among first-year undergraduate students. 相似文献
