Sponsored Social Change in a Public Housing Project

Federal and local pressures have given rise to a hybrid organization that brings together disparate groups from the public and non-profit sectors to address complex social problems. This article examines one such organizational emergence of state-affiliated sponsorship. Based on data from a multi-method case study, we find that not only do members of the sponsoring organization use legitimate authority structures, existing laws, and social norms to reproduce their power, they do so with a state mandate that privileges their expertise and processes.Parts of this paper were prepared while the third author, Beth A. Her current research further examines the emergence of the university-community partnership form. She has published related work in Administration & Society and previously in Qualitative Sociology. Jon Shefner is Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of the Global Studies Interdisciplinary Program at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He is co-editor, with Patricia Fernandez-Kelly, of Out of the Shadows: Political Action and the Informal Economy in Latin America (2006: Pennsylvania State Press). He is currently working on a book examining the impact of globalization and democratization on the mobilization and well being of Mexico's urban poor. Beth A. Rubin is Professor of Management and Adjunct Professor of Sociology at University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Rubin publishes on economic and workplace transformation, labor unions, homelessness and social policy and social theory in leading academic journals. Her current research is on organizational commitment in the context of the new economy, inequality and industrial restructuring, organizational and workplace restructuring and time in organizations, the latter of which is represented in the forthcoming book, Research in the Sociology of Work: Workplace Temporalities, that Rubin is editing.

目前,我国的现代化进程中经过了多年积累,基层社会充满了活力与持续发展的后劲,在全球面临严重经济危机时刻中国的经济发展仍然保持着强劲的发展势头,不免在国内外学术界、舆论界"中国模式"都成为大家津津乐道的话题。近几年的一些事件也似乎显示了我国地方政府公信力下滑,而且越往基层政府的公信力越令人担忧,这个问题的本质就应是地方政府所面临的合法性危机日趋加深。对于城乡基层治理中地方政府合法性问题做具体分析。     

公共政策合法性的民主化重建*——公共领域视野下的“医改”进程审视

当下中国的公共领域正在蓬勃兴起,并展现出浓重的法治诉求.特别是“医改”的议题设置及其“问题化”、方向讨论中的利益博弈、“案件”披露的制度性反思等等,在公共领域中形成了巨大的“层级”共振和溢散效应,不仅对公共政策合法性进行了民主化供给和时代重建,也为民主法治进程提供了新兴动力和支撑.     

国际制度的合法性与有效性--新现实主义、新自由制度主义和建构主义三种范式比较

合法性与有效性是研究国际制度无法回避的范畴.权力、利益、观念分别构成新现实主义、新自由制度主义和建构主义国际制度合法性的核心概念和逻辑起点,三者的合法性都不同程度地存在着危机.关于有效性,三者则分别强调维持国际结构的稳定、降低交易成本、在互构中认同和身份的界定.在合法性与有效性的关系上,新现实主义和新自由制度主义都是模糊的,往往陷入因果关系循环的困境;建构主义则强调合法性与有效性的正相关关系.实际上,国际制度的合法性和有效性是多维的.

The spiral of advocacy: How state-based LGBT advocacy organizations use ground-up public communication strategies in their campaigns for the “Equality Agenda”

This article outlines the communication and outreach strategies used by state-based LGBT advocacy organizations. Leaders of these organizations explained through in-depth interviews that their campaigns address four policy areas: non-discrimination, hate crimes, safe schools, and relationship recognition. LGBT citizens and allies serve as spokespersons. They convey stories of the LGBT experience and reinforce LGBT issues as mainstream concerns. State-level advocacy emphasizes that substantive change occurs from the ground up; change nationally requires a critical mass of support first at local levels. This article demonstrates how public relations can serve as a tool for democracy and an instrument of social change, and how “managing legitimacy” can be placed as central to the public relations’ process.     

Walk the line: Active Moms define corporate social responsibility

While many have suggested that corporate social responsibility is in part a response to stakeholders, little research has been done that gives primacy to the targeted publics’ voice, interpretations, and responses to corporate social responsibility. This research examines the meaning and attributes that Active Moms, an often targeted stakeholder group, assign to corporate social responsibility. In nine focus groups (N = 72), participants suggested that authentic CSR (a) is a combination of socially responsible business practices and campaigns to engage issues which impact their lives, (b) must be marked by longevity and consistency, (c) makes the most sense when linked to core business practices, (d) is distinct from philanthropy, and (e) is evaluated using a blend of rationality and emotionality.

记载两宋历史的《宋史》成于元末衰世。当时史臣"三史分修"的权宜之计受到明人的严厉批评。研究和重修《宋史》是贯穿明代始终的学术大事。明代学者的《宋史》研究明显的经历过一个从理论上的批评和完善再到实践中的重新修撰的过程。其中虽著作众多,卷帙浩繁,但大多因袭旧文,缺少发明。因此,对后代史学并未产生重大影响。这与明代整体学风的空疏是分不开的。
