Applications of neural networks in manufacturing management systems

Abstract. The inherent complexities of modern manufacturing require more sophisticated systems for their management. Neural networks, which are massively parallel interconnected networks, have been shown to have extensive applications in various systems that can be used in manufacturing management. An extensive amount of literature has been published on the applications of neural networks in manufacturing, yet no comprehensive review of this literature to date has been offered. In this paper, we review the concepts and applications of neural networks as they relate to various aspects of manufacturing management.

In Celebration of Virginia Olesen's Uncanny Sociological Eye

Symbolic interactionism dwells deep in the intellectual bones of Ginnie Olesen, manifest in sundry ways across a long and ambitious academic career. Here, we briefly sketch her background and then trace her scholarship featuring her interactionist and feminist contributions in four main areas: professional socialization, women, health and healing studies, qualitative methods/feminist methodologies, and the sociology of emotions/interactionist social psychology of illness. We conclude with cherished memories.     

试论晚清武昌舆地学会的舆图出版及其经营特点

光绪二十二年（公元1896年）成立的译印西文地图公会（后改称武昌舆地学会）是中国第一个地理学会。学会用西方先进的测绘方法和印刷技术编制出版了七百余幅中外地图，在晚清地图学史上占据着举足轻重的地位。其所绘制出版的地图严谨、科学；用小比例尺绘制地图；地图表示和绘制方法新颖，并经过仔细审查修订；用新式烂铜版法印制地图，开铜版雕刻彩印出版小比例尺地图之先河。学会的经营特点是：集资招股编绘、印制地图不以投资为终极目的；购股者分次付清股票款项；以推广舆地学为务，厘清所筹股金的用途及作用，通过售书偿还股金和利息。     

我国留守儿童心理研究前沿演进与热点领域——基于CiteSpace的知识图谱分析

为探寻我国留守儿童心理学研究的前沿演进与热点领域,采用知识图谱分析中国知网CNKI上的541篇留守儿童心理研究的文献,结果显示：（1）留守儿童心理研究的凸显关键词为“心理”始于2008年,并已持续两年;（2）留守儿童心理研究的热点领域主要集中在“留守儿童心理健康教育现状及对策研究”、“留守儿童心理健康与人格特征关系研究”、“留守儿童的问题行为、主观幸福感和生活满意度及相关变量研究”、“留守儿童的孤独感及相关变量研究”和“留守儿童家庭教育对策研究”等五大方面。     

Supporting collegiate foster youth and alumni: A mixed-method planning approach for higher education

Despite the proliferation, of on-campus academic support programs for foster youth and alumni (e.g., those formerly in foster care), few conceptual frameworks for developing these programs exist. This study employed Group Concept Mapping (GCM) methodology to delineate a conceptual framework, from the perspective of foster youth and alumni (N = 51), for the development of on-campus support initiatives. GCM is an integrated mixed-method research method that uses non-metric multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analyses, to analyze qualitative data (e.g., statement form) collected during brainstorming sessions. This research was guided by two separate queries: (1) How do foster youth/alumni conceptualize support programs to support foster youth/alumni through to degree completion; and, (2) Is there a difference in priority areas of this conceptualization between current college students, and those who have dropped out of college within the last 18 months? Analyses revealed that participants conceptualized on-campus support programs via an eight-cluster solution, including Campus Awareness, Advocacy, Data Tracking, Pre-College Supports, Fostering Family Connections, Academic Financing, Campus Life, and Peer/Mentor Supports clusters. Additionally, analyses revealed significant priority ratings between areas of this conceptualization. In terms of Importance to academic success, current students rated statements in the Academic Financing and Peer/Mentor Supports clusters significantly lower than did non-students. For Feasibility, current students viewed statements in the Data Tracking, Campus Life, and Peer/Mentor Supports clusters as significantly more feasible than non-students. Pragmatic implications derived from these findings include fostering inclusive campus environments for foster youth/alumni and advocacy undertakings by institutions, on behalf of this population.     

If we practice posthumanist research,do we need ‘gender’ any longer?

This article offers a reflection around the question of ‘do we need ‘gender’ any longer?’ In taking up this problem and inspired by the way in which postqualitative inquiry has opened a conversation with Deleuzian philosophy and formulated a ‘concept as/instead of method’ line of thought, I wonder whether new images of thought might give the concept of gender ‘the forces it needs to return to life’ or the forces to abandon it. I propose four different images that might provoke the desire to experiment with a new image of thought in relation to the problem: a vegetal mode of thought, a musical mode, a fleshy mode as labiaplasty, a nonliving mode. This choice is connected to the dualities they target: the human/vegetal living world, the rational/artistic production of knowledge, the dis‐embodied/corporeal being in the world, the life/nonlife hierarchization. Each way of thinking of ‘gender’ stages, enacts, performs a different material reality of the concept that shifts the focus from linguistic representations to discursive practices. Hence, if gender has become a dominant discourse, it may be that positive repetition of this discourse might become a way of opening a new site inside it, by de‐territorializing it and re‐territorializing it otherwise.     

Development of measures to assess dimensions of IS operation transactions

Information Systems (IS) researchers often rely on Organization Economics models to describe and explain various IS management issues. While those models are found to be useful, measures are yet to be proposed to assess the dimensions of IS transactions. In this paper we present the results of a study that was a first effort toward this end. The focus of the study was on one type of transaction, IS operations, in a particular management context, that of outsourcing. Measures were developed for four critical dimensions of IS operation transactions: asset specificity, measurement problem, origin of the most important investment, and governance mechanism. Data from 250 large Canadian firms were used to assess the measures, using the partial least squares technique.     

虚拟语气——意象空间的映射产物

虚拟语气的形成有赖于言者以何种方式表述心中之意,而意象的构成离不开主体情感的对象化。以主体情志去诠释客体,并赋予客体某种情志的指向性,让无形之意取得可感可观的物质形式,势必会造成概念结构的隐喻化,导致语用句法层面上的语法化。这一系列的演变都悄然发生在意象心理空间投射映现之中。     

新工科和工程教育认证背景下地方高校测绘工程教学改革与实践

工程教育认证对提高人才培养质量具有重要意义,是一流新工科建设的点睛之笔。在新工科和工程教育认证背景下,制定适合地方院校的人才培养体系至关重要。结合河北工程大学的办学定位,以学生为中心,以成果为导向,从人才定位、课程教学体系建设、学生工程实践能力培养、教学质量监控体系的构建以及人才培养质量的评价等方面进行探讨,确定测绘工程专业的人才培养目标,构建四位一体育人新模式。研究成果可以提高本专业的人才培养质量,促进专业建设的可持续发展,以期为地方同类院校的教学改革提供参考。
