Abstract Therapeutic gardens specially designed for people living with Alzheimer's disease can improve the quality of life of those who use them, and can be helpful in reducing what are called “problem behaviors.” This article explores this statement and describes how the design process can best achieve a garden that is truly therapeutic. The article is in three parts, each of which represents a critical step in design: image, present, test. The last section presents eight basic design criteria to apply in therapeutic garden design review. The article is intended to leave the reader with the big idea that inside and outside environments must be designed as one to respond to the needs of the Alzheimer's mind. 相似文献

SUMMARY This article traces the history of community organization (CO) in the disciplinary and practice arena in India. Although CO within the academia grew with social work, the trajectory of CO practice reveals an increasing tension with the discipline of social work, especially the way it is structured and taught in India. The interface with the community development (CD) programme of the government, as also the growth of the voluntary sector and the influence of new social movements, compelled a review of the orientation of CD and CO. A sectoral thrust on livelihoods, health, education, housing, wages, land alienation, access to entitlements along with the pluralization of debates on caste, ethnicity, tribal and gender identities enriched CO in India. The article offers a perspective on CO based on practice and the critical engagements of faculty members in one of the premier institutes of India which offers social work programmes. Concerted efforts to respond to the changing social and political context with consistent pro-poor stances provided unique insights which are reshaping, refining and re-conceptualizing the perspective of CO in India. This is reflected in course work, the conscious recasting of fieldwork, the criteria of selecting sites of practice and agencies, and the policy work undertaken by faculty members. Could the new curriculum be termed as transdisciplinary or is CO emerging as a distinct discipline? This is a question posed for further debate. 相似文献

ABSTRACT The Community Practice Pilot Project tested an approach for preparing students for work in organizations in which no social workers were employed. Field placements were clustered in a small geographic area. Classroom learning was linked with field instruction, advising, and Experiential Learning. Goals included integrating content on community-based practice into the foundation curriculum, exposing students to community building initiatives, and influencing the master's curriculum. The Project provided some evidence that early exposure to community initiatives has a positive influence on increasing student enrollment in macro concentrations and courses. Implications for social work include viewing the “environment-surrounding-the-person” as a starting point for instruction in foundation methods courses. 相似文献

高昌故城是我国古代中原地区与西方世界经济文化交流的枢纽,19世纪末至20世纪初西方探险家在此收集资料、挖掘文物,高昌故城受到国际学术界的重视和研究。本文结合实地调研和考古笔记等资料,梳理了近一个世纪以来高昌故城及毗邻村庄阔纳协海尔村的历史变迁,综合分析了高昌故城保护与利用过程中社区(居民)与遗址之间动态的互动关系。认为文化遗产保护应注重社区参与,将文化遗产与遗产地社区利益主体纳入整体研究视野,不断调整二者之间的关系,从而达到文化遗产与遗产地区社区(居民)的双利共生状态。 相似文献

Involvement in a gay community is a necessary step in the formation of a positive gay identity. However, how gay individuals think of a gay community and how they participate in these communities remains largely unexplored from a psychological perspective. The current study used an online survey containing several open-ended response items asking participants how they define the gay community, their first experience with it, and the advantages and disadvantages resulting from their involvement. The responses of a nationwide sample of 129 gay and bisexual men were coded in accordance with grounded theory. The results revealed substantial diversity in the perceptions and experiences of the gay community. Implications regarding these findings are discussed. 相似文献

This paper examines the feminist and Alinsky approaches to community organizing, both of which have had great impact on the field of organizing. Viewing the two models as flexible and interflowing, the authors then propose a hybrid organizing model that draws from the strengths of both approaches. The model also calls for continual assessment of the changing organizing context and flexibility to change the blend of strategies according to the needs of the moment. Finally, the paper looks at how the dynamics of race and ethnicity affect organizing in communites of color, and discusses the usefulness of the proposed model in dealing with these dynamics. 相似文献
