Combining Measures of Risk Perceptions and Risk Activities: The Development of the RAPRA and PRISC Indices

The influence of risk perceptions on risk activities of teenagers is well known, but the development of indices, which combine measures of perception as well as behavioral outcomes, has proved problematical. This article discusses the ways in which this methodological problem was tackled within a five-year, multiphase, multimethod study of factors affecting adolescent risk-taking in Tasmania, Australia, which included an intergenerational comparison of adolescents and parents. The development of the Risk Activity by Personal Risk Assessment (RAPRA) Index combines measures of perceived riskiness of 26 activities identified by young people as involving varying degrees of risk, with the degree of participation by each respondent, through a rectangular model of weights. The Personal Risk Score Category (PRISC) Index summarizes and categorizes an individual's risk-taking profile relative to the group's risk values and risk hierarchy established by the RAPRA Index. The article discusses ways in which technical problems involved in combining measures of risk perceptions and risk activities were addressed during index construction, compared with examples in the literature. Some key findings from analysis of two student and parent samples are presented as exemplars of the methods used and the results produced. Findings demonstrate the widespread nature of risk-taking among teenagers, and the similarity of levels of risk-taking between teenager and parental generations. The indices allow for detailed comparison of particular risk-taking activities and reveal differences among teenagers now compared with parents when they were teenagers, and illustrate the dynamic cultural context of risk-taking perceptions and values.

Contemporaneous and Intertemporal Relationship Between the Consumption of Licit and Illicit Substances by Youth

Using a representative sample of the 1999 National School-based Youth Risk Behavior Survey, this study investigated the risky behavior of cigarette, alcohol, and marijuana consumption by underage students. The research analyzes the contemporaneous and intertemporal relationship between the use of these licit and illicit substances. Evidence of a gateway from cigarettes to marijuana was found; however, prior use of alcohol does not significantly increase the likelihood of currently using marijuana.

结构化理论视域下空巢青年孤独现象的形成与调适以安徽省合肥市H小区为例

空巢青年是由传统社会向现代社会转变过程中应运而生的新群体，空巢青年群体的研究对个体精进、社会发展、国家强盛都有重要现实意义。文章以吉登斯的结构化理论为基础，构建“个体行动——社会结构——结构二重性”的分析框架，通过个体行动的例行化、区域化与社会结构中资源（配置型资源与权威性资源）的缺失、规则（支配型规则与表意型规则）的缺失以及相互作用解释空巢青年孤独现象的形成逻辑，并在此基础上从磨砺内力增强个体行动能力、借助外力强化社会关联及社会工作介入的相互接力促进个体行动和社会结构的正向互动三个方面尝试性提出调适孤独的建议。     

Youth,slang, and pragmatic expressions: Examples from Brazilian Portuguese1

This article draws on an ethnographic study of the stigmatized speech style of poor black male youth in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These youth are said to speak gíria (‘slang’), and their speech is often described as incomprehensible to the Brazilian middle class. Speakers and listeners point to a wide range of pragmatic expressions as some of the most salient linguistic features associated with this speech style. This article presents examples from Brazilian Portuguese slang, in which youth draw on sound words, obscenities, address forms, and addressee‐oriented tags to create new pragmatic markers and forms of indefinite reference. It is argued that these pragmatic expressions offer multiple opportunities for speakers to convey stance, novelty, and style, social goals long associated with slang. This data suggests that we broaden the purview of slang beyond the lexicon to investigate the ways in which speakers actively innovate within the area of pragmatics.     

高校工会应加强青年教师的思想政治工作

为适应时代发展的要求,高校工会工作必须以"三个代表"重要思想为指导,针对新情况、新问题,从工作内容、工作方式和工作环境上入手,在实际工作中切实发挥自身的教育引导职能,这样才能更好地做好高校教师的主要群体青年教师的思想政治工作,团结、带领广大青年教师为学校的建设和发展做出应有的贡献。     

断裂与整合:网络社会青年政治社会化范式的嬗变及其应对

网络社会化新模式的突现,不仅冲击和消解着传统的青年政治社会化模式,也重塑着现实的青年政治社会化过程,使其从"真实社会化"向"虚拟社会化"转变.面对"真实"与"虚拟"两种社会化问的断裂而导致的青年政治角色的认同危机.建构一种功能完整与体系规范的新型社会化整合机制,是实现两种社会化相互协调和有效对接,促进青年政治社会化在自身与社会和网络良性互动基础上健康发展的新路径.
