This study compares men's and women's use of stance: the expression of attitude, emotion, certainty, doubt and commitment. A corpus of nearly 900,000 words of informal conversation in social and work contexts was examined with a computer program that measured stance. The main categories, subcategories and the 180 most frequent stance expressions were analyzed with multiple ANOVAs. The main stance categories of affect, evidentials, and quantifiers showed no significant differences between men and women. In terms of subcategories, general affect, boulomaic verbs, general evidentials, mental verbs, hedges and emphatics had no significant differences between men and women; only expletives had a significant difference between men and women. Of the individual stance expressions, only 35 showed a significant difference between men and women. Examples from actual conversations are given to compare men's and women's speech. Cooperative work between qualitative and quantitative researchers is recommended. 相似文献

The Change Explorer is a multimethod tool for the evaluation of and improvement in the change management process. It has been developed based on an integrative systemic change management theory. The contribution describes the theoretical background and different modules, like the interview with card and structure analysis techniques, questionnaires, and results workshop, performed with the key persons involved in the changes. Flexible application possibilities, high practice acceptance and typical results are shown by three project examples. The first is a scientific research study on changes at the police; the second is an applied evaluation and improvement project of the change management at all important changes of a group of companies, and the third is an explorative study of change management in bicultural teams. The tool promotes common self-reflection under consideration of the different perspectives of the key persons involved. This allows developing improvements in the change management in a workshop of the interview partners, better supported by common experience. Important is here particularly the recording of concrete qualitative information on evaluation criteria and success factors by the interviews besides the assessment of quantitative data. 相似文献

Organizations in the public sector, like the German police, are under increasing pressure to change in the face of new challenges. We discuss the complexity of change projects based on qualitative interviews with future top managers in the police. It emerges that employees do not faithfully implement top down change plans. Instead, they subject change plans to various adaptations based on their active sense-making which is influenced by cognitive and behavioral patterns of the organizational members. These micro processes of change severely restrict the plan-ability of change projects. Flexible and reflective procedures are required to successfully manage change, as plans are more often adapted as their champions ever intended. 相似文献

Relative Performance Evaluation aims at reducing incentive risk imposed on a manager, and at influencing product market choices. Thereby, firm owners can choose stronger effort incentives, and they may reduce the degree of competition with the firm’s competitors. Within a principal/agent-model, we explore the interrelation between characteristics of product market competition, performance evaluation, and incentives. Our results show that a firm’s optimal performance evaluation significantly depends on the characteristics of product market competition. This implies that a firm’s optimal choice of performance evaluation is firm- and industry-specific. Hence, our results support the industry-selection-approach recently applied in empirical compensation studies. 相似文献
