Impact of demographic variables on women’s economic empowerment: An ordered probit model

The present study aimed to empirically examine the demographic variables that determine women’s economic empowerment. A sample of 500 married women between 21 and 49 years old (M_age = 35.49, SD = 7.66) was conveniently selected from district Multan (Pakistan). Control over economic resources was used as a proxy for women’s economic empowerment. Ordered probit regression was run to assess the demographic determinants (i.e., age, education, paid job, income, and property) of economic empowerment of the least empowered, moderately empowered, and highly empowered women. Paid job, age, income, and property appeared as positive and significant predictors of women’s economic empowerment. Implications of the study were also discussed.     

Online in later life: Age as a chronological fact and a dynamic social category in an Internet class for retirees

In recent years, sociolinguistic research that has taken an indexical perspective on the construction of social meaning has focused on certain dimensions of identity, such as gender and ethnicity; age, on the other hand, has not received as much attention. More often than not, it has been understood as a fixed chronological fact rather than a socially meaningful resource. The present study, which draws from data collected in an Internet course at a social center for senior citizens, illustrates how age‐related social meanings are recruited in interaction in more complex ways than generally thought. Discourse analysis of interactions between students and their younger instructor show how age informs the construction of social meaning as both a chronological fact and a dynamic social category; students and instructor alike create stances and assume interactional positions in part by indexing age‐related social categories that align with or subvert communicative expectations based on their chronological age.     

固定效应模型对知情选择政策影响的再验证——以已婚育龄个体避孕措施选择的变化为例

利用固定效应模型对1988-2001年全国计划生育/生殖健康调查数据进行了再次分析,以量化考察知情选择政策对中国已婚育龄个体避孕措施选择的影响。研究发现,知情选择与已婚育龄个体避孕措施选择的变化之间呈现一定的因果关联。知情选择导致了育龄个体避孕措施选择的改变,表现为短效自控型避孕措施选择的可能性随着知情选择的开展在逐步升高,而长效医控型避孕措施选择的可能性在逐步降低。     

影响西部欠发达地区失业妇女再就业的显性因素分析与对策

本文立足于西部欠发达地区失业妇女再就业的现实,采用甘肃省天水市1205名失业妇女的调查数据,借助统计软件spss16.0,探讨了影响西部欠发达地区失业妇女再就业的显著影响因素：年龄、文化程度和培训经历,明确了家庭规模、思想障碍和再就业之间的非显著的因果关系,最后在logistic回归模型分析结果的基础上,从宏观、中观和微观三个层面提出了解决西部欠发达地区失业妇女再就业的有效对策。

上古神话所反映的婚姻状况基本上属乱伦婚姻。乱伦婚姻普遍存在于旧石器时代中期以前 ,到了旧石器时代末期 ,乱伦婚姻已不复普遍存在。本文由此认为原始神话最迟产生于旧石器时代末期 ,神话在流传中发生了人为的变异。

Radiocarbon peat chronologies and environmental change

Summary.  Raised bog peat deposits form important archives for reconstructing past changes in climate. Precise and reliable age models are of vital importance for interpreting such archives. We propose enhanced, Markov chain Monte Carlo based methods for obtaining age models from radiocarbon-dated peat cores, based on the assumption of piecewise linear accumulation. Included are automatic choice of sections, a measure of the goodness of fit and outlier downweighting. The approach is illustrated by using a peat core from the Netherlands.
