"指事"新解

"指事"为许慎所列的"六书"之首,是历代学者划分汉字结构时产生问题最多的一书.通过对许慎所作的"六书"义例和汉代三家所列"六书"名目的研究,我们将"指事"的"指"字破译为"稽"字,将"指事"解读为"审察事物"的意思;并通过运用新见解说近十个典型的指事字,使"指示符号"的成说也得以彻底否定.     

Low glomerular filtration rate as an associated risk factor for sarcopenic muscle strength: is creatinine or cystatin C-based estimation more relevant?

Introduction: We aimed to evaluate the association of a decreased glomerular-filtration-rate (GFR?<60?ml/min/1.73?m²), estimated using Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD), creatinine- and cystatin C-based (CKDEPI-CR and CKDEPI-CC) Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration equations with handgrip strength (HGS).

Methods: Community-dwelling males aged?≥60 years admitted to outpatient clinic were included. We used MDRD, CKDEPI-CR, and CKDEPI-CC formulas for GFR estimation and corrected these for body surface area. Muscle strength was assessed by HGS.

Results: 209 men (mean age 67.8?±?6.4) were enrolled. Sixty-two patients (29.7%) had sarcopenic HGS. Subjects with sarcopenic HGS were older, had higher rate of a GFR?2, had lower mid-upper arm circumference; tended to have lower creatine kinase, albumin, CKDEPI-CC-GFR levels; and higher BUN/creatinine ratio and cystatin C. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed a CKDEPI-CC lower than 60?ml/min/1.73 m² as the only independent factor underlying sarcopenic HGS. Higher age tended to have an independent association. Only higher age was independently associated with low HGS when other estimations were used (p?=?0.013 and p?=?0.021 when MDRD and CKDEPI-CR were used, respectively).

Conclusions: There is a strong association of a GFR level of <60?ml/min/1.73 m² with sarcopenic HGS, when CKDEPI-CC formula is used.

如何在美国语境中确立华裔男性的身份建构，这是当代美国华裔作家赵健秀的思考重点。在重建美国华裔男性形象的过程中，赵健秀的主要贡献表现在两个方面：一是着重描写美国华裔中的父子关系，以父子关系来表现中美两种文化之间的碰撞和纠葛；二是充分刺用中国文化史上的英雄主义传统，通过对英雄主义传统的书写，寻找文化归属，确立华裔男性的身份问题。赵健秀和汤亭亭之间，不但是构成了冲突和对话，还具有互补的作用．他们的文学创作．共同书写了华裔在美国语境中的人生轨迹和文化身份。

Active female courtship behavior and male nutritional contribution to female fecundity in Bruchidius dorsalis (Fahraeus) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)

Mating behavior and the male's contribution to female fecundity were studied in the bean weevil Bruchidius dorsalis (Fahraeus) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) in comparison with two other species, Callosobruchus chinensis (which infests stored beans) and Kytorhinus sharpianus (which feeds on wild legumes). Only females of B. dorsalis showed multiple mating and characteristic precopulatory behavior that appeared to solicit the male's nutritious secretion. In contrast, all females of the other two species did not copulate multiply and did not show such precopulatory behavior. In B. dorsalis, the decrement of male body weight just after copulation indicated that seminal fluid weighing as much as approximately 7% of the male's body weight was transferred to the female. Fecundity was more than eight times higher in females that had copulated ten times than in females that had copulated only once, indicating that males paid most of the nutritional cost of egg production. These facts suggest that the sex role is reversed in B. dorsalis. Received: May 22, 1998 / Accepted: July 19, 1999     

Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse: A Qualitative Study and Issues for Clinical Consideration

ABSTRACT

This qualitative study explored the effects of childhood sexual abuse with 10 adult male survivors. The men who participated in the research were largely motivated by their perception that North American society does not acknowledge the sexual abuse of boys. They described the abuse as having significantly affected their sexual identity, as well as their emotional and sexual relationships as adults. The implications of these issues for clinical intervention are described.

Identifying and Working with Older Male Victims of Abuse in England

SUMMARY

The abuse of men is still very much a taboo subject, so identifying older men who have been abused in childhood or adulthood can be very difficult. This paper discusses the problems in identifying older male victims by drawing on the findings of two research projects. Statistical evidence is presented regarding the victims and the abuse they have experienced. It is argued that in general resources are not readily available to facilitate disclosure or to help men through the healing process. An example of good practice is presented by discussing the work undertaken with an older man through group work.
