This study found that less than half of the respondents are willing to blow the whistle. The results reveal that a lack of protection with regard to the whistleblower’s identity, the tedious investigative process, and the notion of avoiding confrontation, which is more apparent in Asian cultures as compared to the West, are among the reasons why individuals who witnessed misconduct chose to remain silent. Adhering to the Asian cultural upbringing where the young must respect the old, those of lower rank must obey those with higher authority, and subordinates do not question the actions of their superior, has become a norm even in the working environment. Therefore, emphasize the need for better protection for whistleblowers including using experienced individuals with a research ethics background to handle allegations from whistleblowers. In addition, established guidelines and procedures for whistleblowers with regard to voicing their allegations against colleagues engaged in research misconduct is still lacking or, to a certain extent, is still unknown to researchers. Thus, the concern indicates a need for institutions to create awareness among researchers regarding the existing platform for whistleblowers, or to develop a systematic and clear procedure which is reliable and independent to promote professionalism in academia.  相似文献

纵观汉朝与匈奴的关系,和亲与文化交流在汉匈关系史上有着突出地位。近年来,随着匈奴考古学的深入展开,在匈奴人活动的中心地域(即今蒙古国),发现了大量的墓葬、城址、聚落遗址等文化遗存。这些发现使我们对汉匈和亲政策及诸多方面有了更加清晰的了解和认识,提供了丰富而详实的实物资料。本文拟就蒙古国匈奴贵族墓葬出土的汉代中原地区的物质文化遗存为主要考察对象,并结合文献史料,将汉匈和亲关系及北方草原游牧文化与中原农耕文化交流、互鉴与融合等方面做一探索。  相似文献

作家沈从文名扬世界,史家沈从文却仍少有知音。学界在推崇其《中国古代服饰研究》的同时,对其研究旨趣和方法却不太关心。至于作家沈从文和史家沈从文之间内在的脉络关联,则无论文学界还是史学界都还没有认真寻觅分析,多半都简单地将其断为两截。当作家沈从文早已从寂寞中走出,成今日文学史中一颗耀眼的星辰时,史家沈从文却依然寂寞,这是不应该的。沈从文由文物入手,不仅开出了一条独特的史学之路,而且也为其早年追求的人性筑起一座新的庙堂。史家沈从文是作家沈从文的蜕变,而不是死亡。  相似文献

In the past in Manus Province, Papua New Guinea, specialised practices, such as the construction of canoes or traditional slit-drums (garamuts), were the property of patrilineal descent groups. Today, processes of objectification of traditions have generated new cultural identifications and redefined the ways skills are perceived as resources and can be claimed as property. The present article traces contemporary developments of notions of tradition and culture in Manus and discusses these in the light of empirical material obtained in connection with the preparations for an ethnographic exhibition on Manus. The argument is that cultural practices classified as kastam are part of local interpretations of cultural differences in ways that seem contingent with precolonial ‘cultural totemism’ but, as knowledge, cultural practices can also be transacted.  相似文献

In this journal, in 2007, Keith Hayward criticized situational crime prevention (SCP) and rational choice. The main thesis was that SCP cannot tackle expressive crimes of anger, hostility and excitement. The secondary thesis was that this was because the rational choice perspective cannot account for intangible aspects of offender decision-making. Hayward's cultural criminology was offered as better explaining expressive and other crimes. The present article suggests fundamental issues may have been overlooked. Some of the many ways SCP applies to expressive and irrational crimes, and how readily they fit into the choice framework, are outlined, and a preliminary critique of Hayward's cultural criminology is offered.  相似文献

The theorization of postmodernism as the cultural logic of late capitalism has generated a number of debates among Latinos in the US and among Latin American critics in particular. This article examines a number of writings published between 1989 and 1994 by Latin American critics focusing on the viability of seeing Latin America as postmodern. We argue that in the rush to accept First World theoretical frameworks, there has been much confusion and a collapsing of economic, political and cultural categories. Conflating market growth and shifts with social change and the availability of a plurality of consumer goods with the distribution of goods and services, some critics have been quick to label cultural production in Latin America as ‘postmodern’. What is needed is a delimitation of the categories used, an examination of the cultural debate in relation to other debates on development, social movements, democratization and alliance politics, as well as an examination of local intellectual debates within the global context of restructuring and transnational capital.  相似文献
