“专才+通才”──大学英语教师最重要的素质

本文论述高等学校“大学英语”教师的素质问题,认为大学英语教师既要具备“专才”的一技之长,又要像“通才”那样博学多识。兼采两者之长,是他们得以完成最起码的教学任务的最重要的素质。又大学英语教师主要依靠自学提高则是达到“专才＋通才”最上乘境界那种博大精深的不二法门,至于自学提高的最关键的问题就是要善用工具书,而所谓“善用”也应包括具有“不尽信、不迷信”的思想准备在内。本文论据主要取自高校“大学英语”课程教学大纲中的教学要求和据此编写出来的教材。     

非对称情况下的多物品拍卖

本文讨论当投标人之间存在不同的预算约束时两物品的序贯增价拍卖,对于物品之间不同的关系(互补、替代或者不相干的关系),物品价值大小的不同及与预算大小之间的关系,在一个简单的完全信息模型下,我们分不同情况讨论投标人的均衡出价策略,并发现对卖方来说,先拍卖价值高的物品是弱占优的策略。     

新《课程要求》下大学英语写作教学的反思

英语写作是非英语专业大学生最薄弱的环节之一,也是教学难点之一。从教育部最新下达的《大学英语课程教学要求》(试行)的写作标准出发,分析了影响英语写作水平的主、客观因素,提出了一系列的解决对策,旨在探讨写作的教学方法和提高学生的写作能力。     

基于iCARE理论的《大学英语》课程定位研究与教改实践

《大学英语》是高校一门重要的公共基础课,厘清课程性质是推进教学改革的基础。在梳理不同时期《大学英语》教学大纲有关规定,借鉴国外高校现代语言课程定位基础上,提出《大学英语》课程定位是EGP,提高"交互密度"是保证学习效率和效果的关键。河北科技大学在多年教改实践基础上,创建了iCARE教学理论,并从六个方面推进《大学英语》课程改革,形成具有校本特色的《大学英语》教学模式,取得良好教改成效。     

西部普通高校公共英语教师激励现状调查分析

为探究西部普通高校对大学公共英语教师管理中的激励问题,以四川D大学、贵州S大学、重庆L大学和云南W大学为例,采用问卷调查法和访谈法对西部四所普通高校公共英语教师的激励现状进行了量化和质化研究.根据调查结果,总结出制约西部普通高校公共英语教师激励作用的因素包括几个方面:第一,高校管理行政化严重影响科学激励建立;第二,职称评定体系无法发挥激励作用;第三,激励制度缺乏公平性;第四,教师培训没有得到合理关注;第五,缺乏有效的考核方式.基于此,西部普通高校管理者应该充分考虑高校公共英语教师的激励特征,构建有效的公共英语教师激励,实现管理的优化.     

Spatial Data Usage,Spatial Thinking and Spatial Knowledge Generation: The Case of Planning Practitioners in Arequipa,Peru

Spatial thinking and spatial knowledge generation in decision-making are still not mature fields of study in planning research, despite these being crucial elements in addressing the issues of the twenty-first-century city. This article contributes to their understanding by exploring their interrelationships with spatial data usage. Through storylines, it analyzes the arguments that planning practitioners offer in support of infrastructure-led decisions in Arequipa (Peru), before and after spatial data usage. The article concludes that spatial data usage improve spatial thinking to different extents, yet suggests aligning spatial data generation and the inclusion of GIS-based spatial analyses with the spatial knowledge needed by routine planning practice.     

Socio‐economic stratification of English in globalized landscapes: A market‐oriented perspective

Globalization has dramatically altered the urban societies of Amsterdam and Brussels over recent decades, with intensified socio‐economic inequality, unprecedented levels of multilingualism and the increasing importance of English. In this paper, I examine the use of English in the linguistic landscape of socio‐economically stratified commercial shopping streets in these two second‐tier global cities. I adopt a market‐oriented, contextualized approach to quantitative and qualitative variability in how English emerges in these particular commercial ‘linguistic markets’. McDonaldization in midscale shopping streets occurs alongside downscale and upscale uses of English which are more susceptible to local commercial dynamics, in particular in Brussels. As such, global English in these single city contexts emerges as a heterogeneous and scaled phenomenon shaped by specific local commercial and linguistic market conditions.     

Infusing Career Development to Strengthen Middle School English Language Arts Curricula

An approach is presented for strengthening middle school standards‐based English language arts (ELA) classroom instruction by infusing theory‐ and research‐supported career development constructs and practices. Over an 8‐week period, 90 urban 7th graders participated in an integrated ELA–career development curriculum. Career agency emerged as an important construct for students. It was related to key markers of ELA achievement (i.e., standardized test scores, grades, and positive change in 6th‐ to 7th‐grade test scores) and elaborated on in nuanced ways by students in their written narratives. Four themes related to career agency were identified in student writings: time perspective, challenges of self‐direction, career development, and social and emotional development. Advantages for students and schools related to synergy, scale, and sustainability are discussed.     

成人英语职业化与模块化教学模式构想

成人英语教学是成人高校课程中的一大难点。由于学生个体差异较大，并长期处于传统教学模式下，学生的英语应用能力与职业的要求还有一定的距离。为此，笔者基于自身的教学实践，提出了职业化与模块化英语教学模式的构想，并在论文中阐述了这一构想的出发点，实施要素以及实施效果。     

重点高校人文社科学报英文编译质量的调查和思考

随机挑选出了国内九所重点高校的人文社科学报开展英文编译质量调查，结果发现这些学报在英文编译方面都存在着不少问题。针对发现的问题，提出了自己的看法。
