Improved testing for the binomial distribution using chi-squared components with data-dependent cells

A power study suggests that a good test of fit analysis for the binomial distribution is provided by a data-dependent Chernoff–Lehmann X ² test with class expectations greater than unity, and its components. These data-dependent statistics involve arithmetically simple parameter estimation, convenient approximate distributions and provide a comprehensive assessment of how well the data agree with a binomial distribution. We suggest that a well-performed single test of fit statistic is the Anderson–Darling statistic.     

Electronic markets in support of procurement processes along the automotive supply chain

Since the introduction of the internet, firms have continued to seek ways to use these public networks to gain competitive advantage. The procurement function is beginning to take on greater strategic importance as these networks started providing firms wider opportunities such as choices of suppliers. This aims not only to reduce procurement costs, but also to build stronger relationships with suppliers to improve quality and flexibility in meeting customer demand. This type of linkage of firms with their suppliers when the product manufactured is complex and supply-chain is heavily tiered, such as the case of the automobile industry, creates challenges to any electronic market or exchange that is aiming to support such a system. Based on discussions with some key individuals in an automotive supply chain and an in-depth analysis of a supply-chain segment, this paper explores the role electronic markets may have to play, if they are to support the procurement processes of various agents along the supply chain.

Empirical bayes testing of a distribution function with d1richlet process priors

This paper considers the generalised empirical Bayes two-action (testing) and multiple action problems concerning a distribution function The Dirichiet process priors p of Ferguson have been used as the prior distributions on the space of distribution functions on the real line. The two-action component problem is considered in detail and when p is unknown partially empirical Bayes procedures {6 } which are asymptotically optimal with rates 0{jT1/2) and OCCmCn+l))     

Multiple hypothesis test for parameter constancy based on recursive residuals

This article presents a multiple hypothesis test procedure that combines two well known tests for structural change in the linear regression model, the CUSUM test and the recursive t test. The CUSUM test is run through the sequence of recursive residuals as usual; if the CUSUM plot does not violate the critical lines, one more step is taken to perform the t test for hypothesis of zero mean based on all recursive residuals. The asymptotic size of this multiple hypothesis test is derived; power simulation results suggest that it outperforms the traditional CUSUM test and complements other tests that are currently stressed in econometrics.     

Linear Models in a general parametric form

The linear model Y - N(Xb, σ²∑) with a restriction R'b = M'u + c is considered, where X, R, M, ∑ and c are known. Explicit formulae are obtained for the best linear unbiased estimator of K'b, for the F-test of the hypothesis K'b = W'v + a, and for the simultaneous confidence intervals of the parameters K′_i b' s, where K = [K₁,K₂,…K_s], w, and a are known, none of the matrices X, ∑, R, M, K, and W is required to have full ranks, and the design X can be one - or multi-way,complete or incomplete, balanced or not balanced, connected or disconnected.     

An integral representation technique for calculating general multivariate probabilities with an application to multivariate x2

Recently in Dutt (1973, (1975), intgral representations over (0,A) were obtained for upper and lover multivariate normal and the probilities. It was pointed out that these integral representaitons when evaluated by Gauss-Hermite uadrature yield rapid and accurate numerical results.

Here integral representaitons, based on an integral formula due to Gurland (1948), are indicated for arbitrary multivariate probabilities. Application of this general representaion for computing multivariate x2 probabilities is discussed and numerical results using Gaussian quadrature are given for the bivariate and equicorre lated trivariate cases. Applications to the multivariate densities studied by Miller (1965) are also included
