Measures of Association and Visualization of Log Odds Ratio Structure for a Two Way Contingency Table

The odds ratio (OR) is a measure of association used for analysing an I × J contingency table. The total number of ORs to check grows with I and J. Several statistical methods have been developed for summarising them. These methods begin from two different starting points, the I × J contingency table and the two‐way table composed by the ORs. In this paper we focus our attention on the relationship between these methods and point out that, for an exhaustive analysis of association through log ORs, it is necessary to consider all the outcomes of these methods. We also introduce some new methodological and graphical features. In order to illustrate previously used methodologies, we consider a data table of the cross‐classification of the colour of eyes and hair of 5387 children from Scotland. We point out how, through the log OR analysis, it is possible to extract useful information about the association between variables.     

Approximating moments of continuous functions of random variables using Bernstein polynomials

Bernstein polynomials have many interesting properties. In statistics, they were mainly used to estimate density functions and regression relationships. The main objective of this paper is to promote further use of Bernstein polynomials in statistics. This includes (1) providing a high-level approximation of the moments of a continuous function $g\left(X\right)$ of a random variable $X$, and (2) proving Jensen’s inequality concerning a convex function without requiring second differentiability of the function. The approximation in (1) is demonstrated to be quite superior to the delta method, which is used to approximate the variance of $g\left(X\right)$ with the added assumption of differentiability of the function. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the application of the proposed methodology in (1).     

A randomized Baumgartner statistic for multivariate two-sample testing hypothesis

In this paper, multivariate two-sample testing problems were examined based on the Jure?ková–Kalina's ranks of distances. The multivariate two-sample rank test based on the modified Baumgartner statistic for the two-sided alternative was proposed. The proposed statistic was a randomized statistic. Simulations were used to investigate the power of the suggested statistic for various population distributions.     

近年来县市党代会常任制建设研究述评

县市党代会常任制建设,一直以来都是学界关注的焦点。近年来,学界重点探讨了党代表大会常任制的内涵、党代会常任制建设面临的问题、党代会常任制建设的宏观思路、党代会常任制建设的关键环节等几个大的方面,呈现出"多层次复合研究、多学科交叉研究、非均衡性发展"等特点,取得了可喜的成果,也面临一些问题,还有待进一步研究。     

新时期加强高校师德师风建设的思考

"师德兴则教育兴,教育兴则民族兴"。通过对中国古代优秀传统文化师德观的介绍,认识师德深厚的文化内涵;通过对新时期教育方针和政策的解读,明确师德师风建设的重要性和迫切性。在新时期大环境和小气候下,观照现状,高校师德缺失存在学校和教师两方面的问题,表现为1.学校重硬性指标、轻软性考核;重业务、轻教学;重学生、轻教师;2.教师教书不育人、在岗不敬业、德行不规范、学术不端正;最后,提出新时期高校师德师风建设的对策:铸师魂、崇师德、正师风、精业务。     

经济增长优先与就业增加优先的辩证分析

目前我国经济虽然一直保持着快速稳定增长的势头,但在增长速度即"增长率"方面,就业增加与经济增长却表现明显的非一致性。基于此,部分学者提出了从经济增长优先向就业增加优先转变的战略目标。针对此战略本文分析了经济增长优先与就业增加优先的辩证关系。通过对1991年以来经济增长与就业增加二者关系的实证分析,辩证分析了我国经济增长为何不能理想地带动就业增加,并在此基础上对如何营造经济增长与就业增加的良性互动机制提出了对策建议。     

转变中的乡村人民法庭 ———以鄂西南锦镇人民法庭为中心

20世纪末至今,乡村人民法庭自身建设取得了长足的进展,其无论是在人员配备、办公条件还是日常管理等方面均有显著改善.与此同时,乡村法官的办案方式亦随之发生了微妙的变化,法官们越来越习惯于坐堂问案,而非携卷下乡.然而,由于缺乏系统的现代法治理念和制度支撑,乡村人民法庭的种种积极转变,并未导致乡村司法的法治化,而是陷入“内卷化”的困境,即一方面乡村人民法庭经过多年的发展渐趋现代化、正规化,其运作方式亦趋于形式化;另一方面乡村司法的结果却是一种“两不是的草率判决”,乡村人民法庭本身亦发展为一种机会主义的运作单位.欲走出此种困境,须转变传统追求实质正义的司法理念,重新重视程序的保障作用.

分析了张之洞的利权思想;针对我国国有企业引资中出现的股权和知识产权问题以及外资冲击民族工业和危及国家经济安全的现状,主张大胆借鉴张之洞的利权思想,并提出了具体的对策。

习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想大众化离不开日常生活这一基础性领域,日常生活也需要新思想指导,二者之间存在着内在的逻辑关系。新思想大众化走向日常生活有着十分重要的意义。因此,在推进新思想大众化的进程中,主体须从党组织、政府、学院派等关键主体走向以群众基础主体为主的多元主体的融合,内容须从传统经典文本走向传统与日常生活内容的结合,话语从政治理论话语走向日常生活的大众话语,形式从单向的传统模式走向现代教育渠道和途径的多维互动,才能为新思想大众化营造一个良好的心理基础和前提,才能赢得广大民众的信任和支持,真正被人民大众认知、认同并自觉践行。     

A perfect storm: Challenges encountered by family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease during natural disasters

ABSTRACT

Since Hurricane Katrina there has been a movement across the U.S. to examine best practice for disaster response within the aging population. However, little is known about the experience of natural disasters from the perspective of family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD). In this exploratory, qualitative study, family caregivers (n=27) were interviewed about their experience with the historic 2015 South Carolina flood. By using thematic analysis, themes were identified to better understand what unique challenges caregivers of person with ADRD experienced. While many caregivers stated they had experienced a natural disaster previously, none had ever done so in their current caregiving role. The caregiving role affected their ability to prepare for the storm and influenced their decision-making regarding evacuation and utilization of recovery resources. Thus, caregivers were confronted by a “perfect storm” of circumstances and uncertainty. Family caregivers need to have actionable emergency plans for disasters that are specific to their role as caregivers of persons with ADRD. Study implications also suggest the role social work professionals can have in educating, advocating, evaluating, and coordinating support to assist caregivers of persons with ADRD as a potentially vulnerable and at-risk population during all phases of disaster.
