Motivated by molecular biology, there has been an upsurge of research activities in directional statistics in general and its Bayesian aspect in particular. The central distribution for the circular case is von Mises distribution which has two parameters (mean and concentration) akin to the univariate normal distribution. However, there has been a challenge to sample efficiently from the posterior distribution of the concentration parameter. We describe a novel, highly efficient algorithm to sample from the posterior distribution and fill this long-standing gap.  相似文献

The three-parameter Weibull distribution is widely used in life testing and reliability analysis. In this article, we propose an efficient method for the estimation of parameters and quantiles of the three-parameter Weibull distribution, which avoids the problem of unbounded likelihood, by using statistics invariant to unknown location. Through a Monte Carlo simulation study, we show that the proposed method performs well compared to other prominent methods based on bias and MSE. The problem of multicollinearity and outliers in the data set produce undesirable effects on the ordinary least squares estimator. Therefore, robust two parameter ridge estimation based on M-estimator (ME) is introduced to deal with multicollinearity and outliers in the y-direction. The proposed estimator outperforms ME, two parameter ridge estimator and robust ridge M-estimator according to mean square error criterion. Moreover, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation experiment are presented.  相似文献

Recently, Ghosh and Basu [5 A. Ghosh and A. Basu, Robust estimation for independent non-homogeneous observations using density power divergence with applications to linear regression, Electron. J. Stat. 7 (2013), pp. 24202456. doi: 10.1214/13-EJS847[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]] rigorously established the asymptotic properties of the MDPDEs in case of independent non-homogeneous observations. In this paper, we present an extensive numerical study to describe the performance of the method in the case of linear regression, the most common setup under the case of non-homogeneous data. In addition, we extend the existing methods for the selection of the optimal robustness tuning parameter from the case of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) data to the case of non-homogeneous observations. Proper selection of the tuning parameter is critical to the appropriateness of the resulting analysis. The selection of the optimal robustness tuning parameter is explored in the context of the linear regression problem with an extensive numerical study involving real and simulated data.  相似文献

This paper gives conditions for the consistency of simultaneous redescending M-estimators for location and scale. The consistency postulates the uniqueness of the parameters μ and σ, which are defined analogously to the estimations by using the population distribution function instead of the empirical one. The uniqueness of these parameters is no matter of course, because redescending ψ- and χ-functions, which define the parameters, cannot be chosen in a way that the parameters can be considered as the result of a common minimizing problem where the sum of ρ-functions of standardized residuals is to be minimized. The parameters arise from two minimizing problems where the result of one problem is a parameter of the other one. This can give different solutions. Proceeding from a symmetrical unimodal distribution and the usual symmetry assumptions for ψ and χ leads, in most but not in all cases, to the uniqueness of the parameters. Under this and some other assumptions, we can also prove the consistency of the according M-estimators, although these estimators are usually not unique even when the parameters are. The present article also serves as a basis for a forthcoming paper, which is concerned with a completely outlier-adjusted confidence interval for μ. So we introduce a ñ where data points far away from the bulk of the data are not counted at all.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the parameter estimation in partly linear regression models when the errors are dependent. To overcome the multicollinearity problem, a generalized Liu estimator is proposed. The theoretical properties of the proposed estimator and its relationship with some existing methods designed for partly linear models are investigated. The article presents careful comparisons among several empirical Bayes estimates to the precision parameter of Dirichlet process prior, with the setup of univariate observations and multigroup data. Specifically, the data are equipped with a two-stage compound sampling model, where the prior is assumed as a Dirichlet process that follows within a Bayesian nonparametric framework. The precision parameter α measures the strength of the prior belief and kinds of estimates are generated on the basis of observations, including the naive estimate, two calibrated naive estimates, and two different types of maximum likelihood estimates stemming from distinct distributions. We explore some theoretical properties and provide explicitly detailed comparisons among these estimates, in the perspectives of bias, variance, and mean squared error. Besides, we further present the corresponding calculation algorithms and numerical simulations to illustrate our theoretical achievements.  相似文献
