The problem of selecting the Bernoulli population which has the highest "success" probability is considered. It has been noted in several articles that the probability of a correct selection is the same, uniformly in the Bernoulli p-vector (P1,P2,….,Pk), for two or more different selection procedures. We give a general theorem which explains this phenomenon. An application of particular interest arises when "strong" curtailment of a single-stage procedure (as introduced by Bechhofer and Kulkarni (1982a) )is employed; the corresponding result for "weak" curtailment of a single-stage procedure needs no proof. The use of strong curtailment in place of weak curtailment requires no more (and usually many less) observations to achieve the same. 相似文献

Although a large number of selection procedures have been published in the statistics literature, the selection approach has received only limited use in applications. One drawback to the use of such procedures has been the lack of parameter estimates, which prevents quantitative comparisons among the treatments. To partially address this criticism, we present a general method for constructing unbiased estimators of the success probabilities after the termination of a sequential experiment involving two or more Bernoulli populations. Mudholkar and Srivastava [1]adapted Mudholkar and Subbaiah's [2]modified stepwise procedure, using the trimmed means in place of the means and appropriate studentization, to construct robust tests for the significance of a mean vector. They concluded that the robust alternatives provide excellent type I error control, and a substantial gain in power over Hotelling's T 2test in case of heavy tailed populations without significant loss of power when the population is normal. In this paper we adapt the modified stepwise approach to construct simple tests for the significance of the orthant constrained mean vector of a p-variate normal population with unknown covariance matrix, and also for constructing robust tests without assuming normality. The simple normal theory tests have exact type I error, whereas the robust tests provide a reasonably type I error control and substantial power advantage over Perlman's [3]likelihood ratio test. 相似文献

Construction of a confidence interval for process capability index C PM is often based on a normal approximation with fixed sample size. In this article, we describe a different approach in constructing a fixed-width confidence interval for process capability index C PM with a preassigned accuracy by using a combination of bootstrap and sequential sampling schemes. The optimal sample size required to achieve a preassigned confidence level is obtained using both two-stage and modified two-stage sequential procedures.
