"光韵"的消失和再生--我们今天怎么看老电影

本文本雅明的“光韵”理论对“看老电影”现象进行文化分析。这里的“老电影”特指1949年新中国成立后拍摄的以革命战争和革命历史为题材的旨在进行革命传统教育的一系列电影。这些老电影在经过了多年的沉寂之后,在新媒体和新时空的条件下又成为一种文化时尚。人们看老电影,但又很难接受电影文本中的故事“内容”。我们今天欣赏老电影,也是在欣赏放映老电影的新环境和老电影与新环境融为一体的新境界,而不是老电影本身。     

The sure thing principle and the value of information

This paper examines the relationship between Savage's sure thing principle and the value of information. We present two classes of results. First, we show that, under a consequentialist axiom, the sure-thing principle is neither sufficient nor necessary for perfect information to be always desirable: specifically, under consequentialism, the sure thing principle is not implied by the condition that perfect information is always valuable; moreover, the joint imposition of the sure thing principle, consequentialism and either one of two state independence axioms does not imply that perfect information is always desirable. Second, we demonstrate that, under consequentialism, the sure thing principle is necessary for a nonnegative value of possibly imperfect information (though of course the principle is still not sufficient). One implication of these results is that the sure thing principle, under consequentialism, plays a somewhat different role in ensuring dynamic consistency in decision making under uncertainty than does the independence axiom in decision making under risk.     

Cultural hybrids or ethnic fundamentalists? discourses on ethnicity in Singaporean SMEs

This paper examines national and ethnic discourses within Singaporean small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the ambiguities and dichotomies characterising Singaporean national and ethnic identity. Singapore is represented officially as a multi‐ethnic state with a Chinese majority which claims to integrate minority groups such as Indians and Malays successfully, and it boasts a generalised Singaporean culture and identity that supposedly embrace the racial and ethnic diversity of the population. However, Singapore also hosts tensions and conflicts associated with such diversity. This paper examines workplace discourses which address tensions and congruencies. The paper is based on research conducted between April 2002 and May 2003, involving 50 SMEs representing various sectors of the economy and constituting various ethnicities. The research found that, while discourses on ethnicity and nationality may be characterised as somewhat ‘shifting’ and ‘fluid’, the respondents present their identities as rather fixed. Primordial ties rather than postmodern multiplicity may better characterise discourses among the workers and owners of Singaporean SMEs.     

Resampling Methods for Testing a Semiparametric Random Censorship Model

This paper presents a goodness-of-fit test for a semiparametric random censorship model proposed by Dikta (1998 ). The test statistic is derived from a model-based process which is asymptotically Gaussian. In addition to test consistency, the proposed test can detect local alternatives distinct n ^-1/2 from the null hypothesis. Due to the intractability of the asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic, we turn to two resampling approximations. We first use the well-known bootstrap method to approximate critical values of the test. We then introduce a so-called random symmetrization method for carrying out the test. Both methods perform very well with a sample of moderate size. A simulation study shows that the latter possesses better empirical powers and sizes for small samples.
