The Tumorigenicity of Mutagenic Contact-Sensitizing Chemicals

The electrophilic nature of some contact sensitizers, that is, chemicals that cause allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), is also characteristic of genotoxic tumorigens. Electrophiles can adduct protein, which is the basis for ACD, as well as DNA, which is the basis for mutagenicity and carcinogenicity. This suggests that some electrophilic contact sensitizers may be genotoxic tumorigens. To further investigate this matter, we evaluated 146 chemicals that had been bioassayed for tumorigenicity and mutagenicity in the National Toxicology Program, with an analysis of structure-activity relationships for contact sensitization. Using the data from this analysis and from other sources, the proportion of the contact sensitizers that were both mutagenic and tumorigenic was found to range from 20% to 28%. This finding suggests that there may be in the order of 90 genotoxic tumorigens for rodents among the approximately 384 chemicals that have been validated as contact sensitizers for humans.

Assessment of Teen Pregnancy Prevention Interventions Among Middle School Youth

The purpose of this study was to examine outcomes for students enrolled in two teen pregnancy prevention programs: the Youth Asset Development Program (YADP); and the Postponing Sexual Involvement Program (PSIP) and identify possible areas for program refinement. The study design consisted of two sets of comparisons: (a) sixth-grade students who completed the PSIP versus the control school; and (b) the YMCA Success Centers where the YADP was introduced versus the control school. Two hundred thirty-seven students were selected to participate in the study. Students who participated in the prevention programs had significantly (p < .05) higher academic achievement, participation in school related activities, and enjoyed school much more than students from the control school. However, no statistically significant differences were found between program participants and the control group when they were compared on personal orientation and judgments about teenage parenthood. Implications for program modification and program effectiveness are discussed.

在程序设计课程教学实践中,针对学生普遍出现的“程序听起来清楚、看起来模糊、编起来糊涂”的问题,就教学方法和教学手段的改革进行了探讨,实施程序设计能力培养的“三步教学法”,充分利用“四维学习空间”,构建课上和课下、理论和实践、传授和自学相结合的教学环境,调动学生学习程序设计的积极性和主动性,对提高程序设计课程的教学效果,取得了一定的成效。     

民族地区高师英语专业毕业论文问题与对策

由于学生、教师、教学和学校的投入不足,英语专业本科毕业论文质量出现下滑的趋势,表现为选题质量不高、研究深度不够、语言质量不佳、结构格式不规范以及抄袭剽窃现象严重等。提高毕业论文质量的对策包括:加强学生英语语言基本功训练,提高专业理论水平;改革课程设置,加强学术论文写作指导;适当延长论文指导时间;加强对指导教师的管理;加强过程管理,严格论文评审和答辩制度;加大经费投入,创造良好学术环境。

依据美国解密国家安全档案,通过对20世纪80年代美国对伊拉克的外交政策的转变,以及美国对伊拉克实行的农产品贷款担保计划的考察,可以看到新形势下的美伊外交关系与美国战略重心的改变.农产品贷款担保计划其实质是美国对伊外交绥靖政策的具体执行,其一方面挽救了美国国内存在的农产品过剩危机,并使其获得了巨大的商业利润;另一方面通过该政策的实行保障了美国在海湾地区的战略利益,更深层次地反映了美国的务实主义外交政策本质.
