Reimagining dialogue in public relations: Bakhtin and open dialogue in the public sphere

Over the past several decades, public relations scholarship has added significant richness to its understanding of dialogue. Such research has followed a theoretical trajectory centered on the “I and Thou” philosophy of Martin Buber. Drawing from Mikhail Bakhtin’s Dialogic Imagination, this essay puts public relations dialogic scholarship into conversation with the concept of dialogue in a broader societal context. Bakhtin’s work provides additional understanding of public relations’ roles in dialogue, particularly in regards to facilitating public conversations. Bakhtin’s emphasis on contextual and individually generated meanings illuminates the nature and structure of public conversations and the potential for public relations practitioners to play a more active and positive role in the enactment of open dialogue.     

Black Lives/White Backgrounds: Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric and Critical Race Theory

How do you criticise a hierarchical racial formation that is rendered nearly invisible by its colour (white) and positioning (background) in the contemporary, so-called colour-blind or post-racial US? The reading of Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric that this essay will undertake seeks to offer a response to this question utilising some key insights from Critical Race Theory (CRT). As they are understood here, both CRT and Citizen offer counter-stories by ‘call[ing] out’ to what you ‘don’t see’, specifically to America’s racial formations so as to promote colour-consciousness and an anti-racist critique. Beginning with a discussion of the relationship between literary and legal narratives, followed by two sections on Rankine’s rhetorical strategies, this essay ends by closely reading her texts about Trayvon Martin, who was murdered on 26 February 2012.     

浅论我国的高等教育大众化的特点

我国已迈入高等教育大众化阶段,回顾中国高等教育大众化的进程,并与马丁.特罗先生提出的高等教育大众化理论进行分析比较,我们可以发现中国高等教育大众化有别于一般意义上的高等教育大众化具有自身的特点。     

A statistical social network model for consumption data in trophic food webs

We adapt existing statistical modeling techniques for social networks to study consumption data observed in trophic food webs. These data describe the feeding volume (non-negative) among organisms grouped into nodes, called trophic species, that form the food web. Model complexity arises due to the extensive amount of zeros in the data, as each node in the web is predator/prey to only a small number of other trophic species. Many of the zeros are regarded as structural (non-random) in the context of feeding behavior. The presence of basal prey and top predator nodes (those who never consume and those who are never consumed, with probability 1) creates additional complexity to the statistical modeling. We develop a special statistical social network model to account for such network features. The model is applied to two empirical food webs; focus is on the web for which the population size of seals is of concern to various commercial fisheries.

本文凸显西方元思维的"逻各斯—秘索思"结构,强调德国思想史的"启蒙思脉—浪漫思脉"二元对立。同时选择作为德国知识精英代表的瓦尔泽、格拉斯、哈贝马斯,对其"文学话语—哲学话语"对话结构进行梳理,既凸显其为20世纪后期精英难以回避的"战争背景",同时也揭示他们面对历史浩劫与民族重生勇于承担的"智识勇气"和"创辟实绩"。最后,仍归结为一个基本追问,就是在至今为止的20世纪后半期的西方思想史进程中,虽然名家辈出,但并未能为人类发展提供明显亮色,以及德国学术、思想难得强势的事实,并追问其原因所在。同时引入中国文化传统的《易经》思维,尤其是凸显"一分为三"之原则,强调"启蒙调试"作为一个重要的"黄金分割点",使西方二元论思维获得一个立足于三的支撑点。如此,则格拉斯尝试以浪漫的手法来坚持启蒙的目标、瓦尔泽以浪漫的手段来调试启蒙的不足,都有其合理之处,相比较哲学话语系统的哈贝马斯对启蒙传统的"执善固执",则更显出文学话语的灵活性与诗性创发对于思想史发展的特殊意义。     

马丁·伊登对生命本质的追求与探索

对于杰克·伦敦及其小说 ,批评界一直褒贬不一 ,莫衷一是 ,用存在主义的观点来解读其最重要的小说之一《马丁·伊登》是一种新的研究方法。《马丁·伊登》通过主人公马丁·伊登在追求美国之梦的过程中对生命本质的思考和探索 ,指出在”微笑着的美国社会”背后所隐藏的东西。在美国历史上最动荡不安的时期 ,杰克·伦敦以他独特的声音道出了对美国社会的叩问以及对人生的思索     

比较语境中的误读与发明——推求徐复观、叶维廉、高友工、方东美等学者重建中国美学的若干策略

徐复观、叶维廉、高友工、方东美等中国学者在研究中不约而同地将西学作了有意无意的误读式援引、转换或整合,并指向发明中国问题,这种不免有所取舍的操作,或许可理解为这些学人为了创设发明中国问题之语境而采取的一种比较和解释的策略.有意思的是,庞德和海德格尔等西方学者也是以本民族文化为本位来取用东方资源的,在资源的选择和取用目的上都受到他们自己理论目标的牵引而未必做到忠实.东西方学者在比较视野中对对方资源的取用和援引策略,形成了某种互文的效果,可以让中国人更深刻地体认到中国传统的某些特出的好处.以体为尊,在比较中互相发明,是比较语境的本质所在.     

科学宗教互为表里,新说传入已为旧知——试论丁韪良在《尚贤堂（新学）月报》上的文章

戊戌变法时期,时在北京的美国传教士丁韪良主办了《尚贤堂（新学）月报》,通过寓言和新闻报道,发表了对中国改革变法的建议,同时也向中国人介绍了一系列西方科学知识。本文通过将这些内容与丁韪良以往著作相比较,发现＂科学知识＂大部分出自于他二三十年前的出版物中,不但在知识更新上表现出滞后性,而且杂糅着宗教思想,最终这些出于宣教目的的文化和政治建议未能引起读者的关注,故而《尚贤堂（新学）月报》在中国近现代报刊史上影响甚微。
