Incorporating Multicultural Learning in Clinically-Based Education in the United States

This study attempted to explore and clarify the ambiguity surrounding cultural concepts, broaden and deepen the current understanding of cultural competency, and operationalize its core components in multicultural education in the United States. The research findings presented in this study were organized into three overarching themes: Level I: knowledge development; Level II: integrative processes; and Level III: practice evaluation. The findings contributed to the formulation of levels in multicultural learning and to the specification of core cultural components in clinical practice.     

Reflections on Introducing Students to Multicultural Populations and Diversity Content

SUMMARY

The aim of this article is to identify factors the author feels facilitate learning in introductory courses focused on multicultural populations and related issues. These are reflections based on observations of patterns over a number of years, in a variety of teaching settings and structures, and with a very diverse body of students, and include the characteristics and behavior of the teacher and the students, the course structure, and important considerations with regard to course content and methods.     

Relationship matters: How government organization-public relationship impacts disaster recovery outcomes among multiethnic communities

Government and emergency management (EM) agencies play a leading role in managing natural disasters. However, it is less well understood how the quality of the relationship between government and various publics may impact long-term disaster-coping and recovery outcomes. Extending the relationship management framework to the context of disaster management, the current study tests the relationships among different ethnic publics’ OPR quality, their communicative behaviors of seeking government and EM information, and disaster-coping outcomes. Results suggest that government OPR quality is positively related to information seeking and major disaster-coping outcomes, including self-efficacy, collective efficacy, and community resilience perceptions. Moreover, the extent to which OPR quality impacts disaster-coping outcomes significantly diverges across ethnic lines. Results provide implications for multicultural relationship management in the context of post-disaster recovery and community building.     

从“语联网”想到的澳门社会的语言服务问题

澳门当前语言（含文字）的使用状况是：城小、人少、语多、文杂,给语言沟通带来诸多不便,语言服务便显得格外重要。＂语联网＂的出现,或将有助于解决像澳门这样的社会所面临的复杂而重要的语文问题。当然,＂语联网＂若引进澳门社会,可能也需要因地制宜地进行一些有针对性的改进,以使其更好地为澳门社会服务。     

Public relations and tourism: Critical reflections and a research agenda

This article is based on the belief that research focused on PR tourism is of fundamental importance to understanding the role of PR in contemporary culture. Our analysis shows that tourism has not received much attention from PR researchers and that a critical perspective uncovers a host of key issues in promotional culture: power, politics and diplomacy in international communication; risk, ethics and social responsibility; globalisation and multiculturalism; and ‘media panics’ and ‘media events’.     

Talking about culture in social work encounters: immigrant families and child welfare in Finland

This article aims at analysing the ways in which people talk about ‘culture’ in social work encounters involving child welfare in immigrant families. The empirical material includes conversations between immigrant clients, their social workers and co-operating professionals at six Finnish social service offices, as well as interviews with the persons participating in these meetings. The theoretical and methodological frames of reference are social constructionism and discourse analysis. The study suggests three ways in which the concept of ‘culture’ is used by social workers and their clients: firstly, as a means of explaining ‘the ordinary and normal ways’ of raising children; secondly, as ‘a difficulty’ in the interaction between social workers and clients; and thirdly, as ‘a methodical tool’ in creating dialogue with clients. As far as the practical implications for social work are concerned, it is emphasized that in order to avoid ethnocentric practice or ‘culturalization’ of problems, it is important for social workers to be conscious of the various meanings of ‘culture’ both in their own practice and in the ways their clients employ cultural symbolism.

高校作为民族团结教育实践的重要场所,是国家和个体践行民族团结教育实践的载体,是全面开展民族团结教育实践的前沿阵地。边疆地区高校民族团结教育实践应以课程为显性载体,从多元知识的大集合中找寻合理出路;注重情感实践,增进对他民族跨文化交流;以活动为媒介,以直接参与体验为路径,外化民族团结的内涵;以文化为支撑,助力各民族文化间互动。不仅要遵循自身的内在发展逻辑,也要通过社会实践适应外界环境的变化。     

现代化与新型民族文化体系的构建

现代化是一个综合的社会概念,文化现代化作为它的内在动力要素,对传统民族文化既有冲击和对抗的一面,又有对其进行文化创新和整合、构建新型民族文化体系的一面;保护和发展民族文化是文化现代化的客观条件,是实现国家整体现代化的重要保证。本文对重塑这种新型民族文化体系的途径、实施多元文化教育的普遍意义等进行了探索。     

论多元文化语境中的世界英语

在研究Kachru的英语世界化理论的基础上 ,本文主要研究英语作为全球性语言在世界各国的变化和发展的特点 ,指出世界英语是在多元文化和语言环境中发展并变化着的语言 ,并形成了各种带有不同地域色彩的语言变体。英语不再为所谓的“标准英语”使用者所独有 ,而是属于具有不同语言文化背景的世界各国的使用者。
