Estimation of location and scale parameters of a distribution by U-statistics based on best linear functions of order statistics

In this work we propose a technique of estimating the location parameter μ$\mu$ and scale parameter σ$\sigma$ of a distribution by U-statistics constructed by taking best linear functions of order statistics as kernels. The method has been illustrated for estimating the location and scale parameters of type-I extreme value distribution. We have computed the asymptotic relative efficiencies of the proposed U-statistics with the appropriate maximum likelihood estimators based on samples drawn from each of type-I extreme value, logistic and normal distributions. In all cases very high asymptotic relative efficiencies are obtained.

A Note on Local Influence Based on Normal Curvature

Object functions other than the likelihood displacement, such as a parameter estimate or a test statistic, can also be used in local influence analysis. The normal curvatures of these object functions have been studied in situations where the slopes were non-zero. In these situations, we show that the normal curvature is not scale invariant and thus ambiguous conclusions will be drawn. Comments on the application of the general normal curvature formula are presented.

An Explicit Formula for the Risk of the Positive-Part James-Stein Estimator

When estimating a normal mean vector with variance known up to a multiplicative factor, it is well known that the positive-part James-Stein estimator is not admissible, but until now, no one has been able to exhibit a uniformly better estimator. We propose here an explicit formula for the risk of the positive-part James-Stein estimator.     

A MODIFICATION OF THE SEQUENTIAL PROBABILITY RATIO TEST FOR TESTING A NORMAL MEAN

A modification of the sequential probability ratio test is proposed in which Wald's parallel boundaries are broken at some preassigned point of the sample number axis and Anderson's converging boundaries are used prior to that. Read's partial sequential probability ratio test can be considered as a special case of the proposed procedure. As far as 'the maximum average sample number reducing property is concerned, the procedure is as good as Anderson's modified sequential probability ratio test.

为全面了解上海高校创业教育现状,以问卷调查的方法对上海高校不同专业、年级和生源地学生对创业教育的认同、课程设置和创业准备情况等进行了探索性调查和分析。在调查分析基础上,对高校创业教育存在的问题进行讨论,就高校创业教育改革理念、创业教育课程设置和大学生创业支持系统等提出了建议。
