In this paper, we study the problem of finding the optimal release time of a software meant to be marketed over a finite time horizon. The optimal design scheme considers reduction of the whole cost, achievement of a specified reliability with some high probability, or a combination of the both. We assume that the software is debugged periodically and the bug detection rates in the pre-release and post-release periods are different. We derive the optimal solution in each case. We also demonstrate the utility of the results through simulations, leading to different types of graphs showing the relationship between the target reliability, specified budget and the optimal number of additional debugging periods.  相似文献

A number of studies have investigated the numerical reliability of the GAUSS Mathematical and Statistical System by Aptech Inc. Those studies identified several critical accuracy errors for different computational methods. We conducted comprehensive tests of this widely used package on estimation, statistical distributions, and random number generation and found that GAUSS 8.0 still has serious problems, especially with statistical distributions and random number generation.  相似文献

In this article, we deal with the so-called Markovian Arrival Process (MAP). An MAP is thought of as a partially observed Markov process, so that the Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm is a natural way to estimate its parameters. Then, nonlinear filters of basic statistics related to the MAP must be computed. The forward–backward principle is the basic way to do it. Here, bearing in mind a filter-based formulation of the EM-algorithm proposed by Elliott, these filters are shown to be the solution of nonlinear stochastic differential equations (SDEs) which allows a recursive computation. This is well suited for processing large data sets. We also derive linear SDEs or Zakai equations for the so-called unnormalized filters.  相似文献

Abstract

Reliability is a major concern in the process of software development because unreliable software can cause failure in the computer system that can be hazardous. A way to enhance the reliability of software is to detect and remove the faults during the testing phase, which begins with module testing wherein modules are tested independently to remove a substantial number of faults within a limited resource. Therefore, the available resource must be allocated among the modules in such a way that the number of faults is removed as much as possible from each of the modules to achieve higher software reliability. In this article, we discuss the problem of optimal resource allocation of the testing resource for a modular software system, which maximizes the number of faults removed subject to the conditions that the amount of testing-effort is fixed, a certain percentage of faults is to be removed and a desired level of reliability is to be achieved. The problem is formulated as a non linear programming problem (NLPP), which is modeled by the inflection S-shaped software reliability growth models (SRGM) based on a non homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) which incorporates the exponentiated Weibull (EW) testing-effort functions. A solution procedure is then developed using a dynamic programming technique to solve the NLPP. Furthermore, three special cases of optimum resource allocations are also discussed. Finally, numerical examples using three sets of software failure data are presented to illustrate the procedure developed and to validate the performance of the strategies proposed in this article. Experimental results indicate that the proposed strategies may be helpful to software project managers for making the best decisions in allocating the testing resource. In addition, the results are compared with those of Kapur et al. (2004), Huang and Lyu (2005), and Jha et al. (2010) that are available in the literature to deal the similar problems addressed in this article. It reveals that the proposed dynamic programming method for the testing-resource allocation problem yields a gain in efficiency over other methods.  相似文献

Systematic reuse can dramatically improve software development productivity and quality even though a software reuse methodology may require substantial investments. Some projects may fail to achieve the targeted amounts of reuse within organizations that are overall successful in employing reuse. To explain such variation, this research explores the effects of project‐level factors in the success of software reuse. A model that relates project factors to project reuse success is developed using an information‐rich case study approach. The results are based on the insights obtained in a nominal group technique session, triangulated with structured interviews and comparative case studies. Success factors identified by the study relate to client influence, project culture, project attributes, and developer reuse experience. An organization that can successfully identify the factors affecting potential software reuse will be able to better target investments for the improvement of its reuse methodology and thus positively affect its software development productivity and quality.  相似文献
