A Nonparametric Test for Interval-Censored Failure Time Data with Unequal Censoring

This article considers nonparametric comparison of survival functions, one of the most commonly required task in survival studies. For this, several test procedures have been proposed for interval-censored failure time data in which distributions of censoring intervals are identical among different treatment groups. Sometimes the distributions may depend on treatments and thus not be the same. A class of test statistics is proposed for situations where the distributions may be different for subjects in different treatment groups. The asymptotic normality of the test statistics is established and the test procedure is evaluated by simulations, which suggest that it works well for practical situations. An illustrative example is provided.     

Japanese invasion,war preparation,relief, rehabilitation,compensation and ‘state-making’ in an imperial frontier (1939–1955)

ABSTRACT

This paper looks at the history of state-making in an entangled imperial frontier. The northeastern frontier of British India was a mosaic of princely states, administered and un-administered territories. The presence of the colonial state in the region was contentious, marked by violence on one hand and philanthropy on the other. The Japanese invasion of the region during World War Two had several unintended ramifications. Wartime and post-war developments produced institutions and social experiences which facilitated the process of state-making in the region. Relief and Rehabilitation project of the colonial state, and later distribution of monetary compensation was not merely governed by moral or legal obligations but was part of a larger project of imperialist reconquest in Asia after the surrender of the Japanese with Manipur and Naga Hills as the base. This project also provided the postcolonial Indian state with institutions to continue the process of state-making of its own.     

A poisson-gamma model for two-stage cluster sampling data

We propose a model for count data from two-stage cluster sampling, where observations within each cluster are subjected simultaneously to internal influences and external factors at the cluster level. This model can be seen as a two-stage hierarchical model with local and global predictors. This parameter-driven model causes the counts within a cluster to share a common latent factor and to be correlated. Maximum likelihood (ml) estimation based on an EM algorithm for the model is discussed. Simulation study is carried out to assess the benefit of using ml estimates compared to a standard Poisson regression analysis that ignores the within cluster correlation.

Testing the difference of two exponential means using generalized p-values

There are no exact fixed-level tests for testing the null hypothesis that the difference of two exponential means is less than or equal to a prespecified value θ₀. For this testing problem, there are several approximate testing procedures available in the literature. Using an extended definition of p-values, Tsui and Weerahandi (1989) gave an exact significance test for this testing problem. In this paper, the performance of that procedure is investigated and is compared with approximate procedures. A size and power comparison is carried out using a simulation study. Its findings show that the test based on the generalized p-value guarantees the intended size and that it is either as good as or outperforms approximate procedures available in the literature, both in power and in size.

以人为本,探索"两课"考试新模式

“两课”考试改革应该坚持以人为本的指导思想。本着有利于调动学生学习的积极性,有利于引导学生关注现实,有利于提高学生的自主学习能力等原则来进行。在考试内容上把基本原理的理解与运用相结合,书本内与书本外的知识相结合。在考试形式上,开卷、写论文和平时考核相结合。对考试改革中存在的问题以及如何深化改革本文也进行了论述。     

On two-stage shrinkage testtimation

The general procedure of two stage shrinkage testimation formulated in Adlce and Gokhale [Commun. Statist.- Theory Meth. 18, 633-627 (1989)] k further generalized and extended to the multiparameter case. Local optimal-ity result of that paper, in the restricted set up of univariate location families and scalar families, is generalized without any restriction on the parametric family. The local unbiasedness result of that paper is also generalized and in addition local risk- unbiasedness is considered. The optimality and risk-unbiasedness results are proved for the usual matrix loss and their validity for an arbitrary quadratic loss deduced as corollaries.
