Re-examining two tests for bivariate normality

Many goodness of fit tests for bivariate normality are not rigorous procedures because the distributions of the proposed statistics are unknown or too difficult to manipulate. Two familiar examples are the ring test and the line test. In both tests the statistic utilized generally is approximated by a chi-square distribution rather than compared to its known beta distribution. These two procedures are re-examined and re-evaluated in this paper. It is shown that the chi-square approximation can be too conservative and can lead to unnecessary

rejection of normality.     

Spatial Matching of Multiple Configurations of Points with a Bioinformatics Application

In this article, we present a general model to deal with the problem of matching multiple objects or configurations of points from a Bayesian point of view. We study both labeled and non labeled cases. Our model generalizes, in terms of non singular affine transformations and multiple configurations, previous two-terms matching models. As a practical application in Bioinformatics, we consider data from a microarray experiment of gorilla, bonobo, and human-cultured fibroblasts. We find out the matchings and the best affine transformation between the projections of genes on a two-dimensional space, obtained by a multidimensional scaling technique.

Zur näherungsweisen ermittlung optimaler stochastischer steuerimgen durch diskretisierung

Considered are stochastic continuous-time control systems described by stochastic differential equations, which are defined by special martingals. Examples are given by the well known Ito equations with respect to a Wiener - or a Poisson process. By means of a performance index, regarding current yields as well as a terminal payment a control problem is formulated. The essential result in view of concrete evaluation is the approximation by a sequence of discrete-time finite dimensional control problems.     

An introduction to relationship algebras

Since the introduction and definition of relationship algebras by James (1957), rolatively little use has been made of this theory in experimental design and analysis problems This may be due to the underlying theory of relationship algebras being previously accessible only in books on mathematical structure theory, e.g. van der Waerden (1950) This paper provides a development of the theory of relationship algebras beginning at an elementray level and including only those parts of mathematical structure theory which are essential to this development. An example of its application in derving an analysis due to alling (1967) is presented.

本文把不同的压力边界条件用于活塞环组润滑油膜的研究,提出了实现各种边界条件的数值计算方法,并将不同情况下膜厚计算值和实测值进行了比较。结果表明,从一个工作循环来看,活塞环组兼有充分润滑和贫油润滑状态下采用半Sommerfeld边界条件的膜厚计算值最接近实测值,且计算工作量也比其它边界条件的小一些。
