On small sample properties of the almost unbiased generalized ridge estimator

The purpose of this paper is to examine small sample properties of the operational almost unbiased generalized ridge estimator (E) . The exact first two moments of theAUGRE are derived. It is shown that although the reduction of the bias of the AUGRE is substantial, the AUGRE is rather inefficient than the generalized ridge estimator without the bias correction in a wide range of a noncen-trality parameter in terms of the mean square error.

ON THE STRONG LAW OF LARGE NUMBERS UNDER REARRANGEMENTS FOR SEQUENCES OF BLOCKWISE ORTHOGONAL RANDOM ELEMENTS IN BANACH SPACES

The condition of the strong law of large numbers is obtained for sequences of random elements in type p Banach spaces that are blockwise orthogonal. The current work extends a result of Chobanyan & Mandrekar (2000) [On Kolmogorov SLLN under rearrangements for orthogonal random variables in a B ‐space. J. Theoret. Probab. 13, 135–139.] Special cases of the main results are presented as corollaries, and illustrative examples are provided.     

A non-parametric estimator for the doubly periodic Poisson intensity function

In a series of papers, J. Garrido and Y. Lu have proposed and investigated a doubly periodic Poisson model, and then applied it to analyze hurricane data. The authors have suggested several parametric models for the underlying intensity function. In the present paper we construct and analyze a non-parametric estimator for the doubly periodic intensity function. Assuming that only a single realization of the process is available in a bounded window, we show that the estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal when the window expands indefinitely. In addition, we calculate the asymptotic bias and variance of the estimator, and in this way gain helpful information for optimizing the performance of the estimator.
