On the evaluation of steck's determinant for rectangle probabilities of uniform order statistics

An expeditious method is developed for systematically evaluating Steck’s determinant for rectangle probabilities of uniform order statistics as polynomials generated by a binary tree.

章学诚在方志学上的贡献,有口皆碑,但也有过誉之处。其方志思想除了因时代局限而包含的封建糟粕外,在认识上也存在着偏差,如史志不分,以史代志,追求极端的撰著体修志风格,误认为“前志传”系其首创,主张帝王后妃与正史立传人物不谮列于人物传,反对志书篇目因体现地方特色而升格等,在实践中则有与所持理论相悖之处。     

Linearity of regression for the past weak and ordinary records

In this paper we study the property of linearity of backward regression for non-adjacent records. In the case of weak records, a characterization of the geometric distribution is obtained. It also appears that a related characterization for ordinary records does not hold, showing the difference in conditional behaviour between weak and ordinary records.     

Fisher information in generalized order statistics

A representation of the Fisher information in generalized order statistics in terms of the hazard rate of the underlying distribution function is derived under mild regularity conditions. This expression supplements results for complete, Type-II censored, and progressively Type-II censored data. As a byproduct, we find a hazard rate based representation for samples of k-records which apparently has not been known so far. Moreover, sufficient conditions for the validity of this representation in location and scale family settings are given. The result is illustrated by considering generalized order statistics based on logistic, Laplace, and extreme value distributions.     

Nonparametric density estimation from censored data

Nonparametric estimation of the probability density function f° of a lifetime distribution based on arbitrarily right-censor-ed observations from f° has been studied extensively in recent years. In this paper the density estimators from censored data that have been obtained to date are outlined. Histogram, kernel-type, maximum likelihood, series-type, and Bayesian nonparametric estimators are included. Since estimation of the hazard rate function can be considered as giving a density estimate, all known results concerning nonparametric hazard rate estimation from censored samples are also briefly mentioned.
