The author reviews research on confirmatory bias, discusses its role in evaluations of comparative custodial fitness, and creates a distinction between confirmatory bias and confirmatory distortion, in which there is an indisputably conscious endeavor to find and report information that is supportive of one's favored hypothesis. Information is provided concerning the dynamics of confirmatory bias and distortion, the ways in which these phenomena manifest themselves, and the ways in which they can be addressed by reviewers and by cross-examining attorneys.

邮轮旅游网络关注度的空间分异及影响因素——基于邮轮旅游百度指数的分析

基于百度指数的邮轮旅游网络关注度,聚焦潜在邮轮旅游者的消费需求,借助变异系数、全局空间自相关、冷热点揭示中国的31个省(自治区、直辖市)邮轮旅游网络关注度的空间分异特征,并在此基础上运用地理探测器对其影响因子进行探测。研究发现:邮轮旅游网络关注度的时间演变趋于平稳、省际差异和冷热点分布差异均显著,且邮轮旅游网络关注度空间分异的影响因子差异显著。据此,提出牢抓邮轮发展机遇以推进邮轮旅游优质发展,加快基础设施建设以优化邮轮旅游发展基础,加大邮轮旅游宣传以强化营销的实践针对性等对策,以创新邮轮旅游经营管理,推进邮轮旅游发展。     

Grieving the Loss of a Pet Needs the Health System Recognition

Globally there is increased presence of pets in the households. This non-human relationship, with its dimensions of physical and emotional bonds, can get severely jolted on the death of the companion animal. It sets a feeling, ‘our life is now left with a void and the house feels utterly empty’. Unlike the loss of a child, spouse or parent which become a shared tragedy; others may not understand the depth of sadness and a sense of void in a grieving pet owner. Emotional pain and physical distress due to the loss of a companion animal are likely to be pronounced. A big challenge for the medical community is to anticipate, identify and address physical and psychosocial symptom burdens in a timely manner.

Insurrectional Arts: Restoring a Politics and Ethics of Attention

Abstract

This chapter is inspired by contrasting passages in two stories. The first is in Jamaica Kincaid's story, ‘The Embassy of Cambodia'. Her narrator, who is following a transversality between two forms of atrocity: those practiced by states, as in the case of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge exterminism and that inflicted on abused migrant domestic workers from third world countries. The narrator notes that people in her village are too distracted to heed peoples’ afflictions: ‘The fact is if we followed the history of every little country in this world?…?we would have no space left in which to live our own lives or to apply ourselves to necessary tasks?…?’. In contrast, in Daniel Alarcon's story, ‘Collectors', a seasoned convict is explaining to his new cell mate how to survive by reading signs as you watch the men in the prison yard:

Did they have their arms at their sides, or crossed in front of them? How widely did they open their mouths when they talked? Could you see their teeth were their eyes moving quickly, side to side? Or slowly, as if taking in every detail?     

中国高校英语专业学生写作局部连贯能力的发展特征--一项基于向心理论的参数化研究

语篇局部注意焦点保持与更新及其指称形式的选择是影响语篇局部连贯性的两个重要方面。本文运用基于向心理论的四项原则分析法,对中国高校英语专业四级、八级考试的作文语料进行对比分析,从局部注意焦点及其指称形式等两个方面分析不同年级作文的局部连贯特征差异,从而分析不同年级学生局部连贯能力的发展性特征。研究发现,随着整体语言能力的提升,学生的局部注意焦点的保持能力有所增长,并且正确运用代词和定冠词的能力也随之提高。
