On uniform approximation of Poisson variates by normal ones

In this paper the accuracy of the normal approximation to the Poisson is treated from the viewpoint of direct approximation of Poisson variables by normal ones. The conclusions that are derived on the accuracy of this approximation lead (among others) to very useful results on confidence limits for the mean of a linear combination of independent Poisson variables; these latter are employed in precise determination of the composition of a mixture of radioactive isotopes by means of a scintillation counter.     

Nonparametric estimation of the limiting availability

The point availability of a repairable system is the probability that the system is operating at a specified time. As time increases, the point availability converges to a positive constant called the limiting availability. Baxter and Li (1994a) developed a technique for constructing nonparametric confidence intervals for the point availability. However, nonparametric estimators of the limiting availability have not previously been studied in the literature. In this paper, we consider two separate cases: (1) the data are complete and (2) the data are subject to right censorship. For each case, a nonparametric confidence interval for the limiting availability is derived. Applications and simulation studies are presented.deceased after the paper was accepted

How Unique Are the Price–Anderson Limitations on Nuclear Accident Liability?

In this paper we extend the work reported in prior studies. The conclusion drawn from the aggregate of those studies was that the limitation on liability imposed by the Price–Anderson Act for a catastrophic accident at a nuclear power plant ($560 million) is comparable to de facto limitations on recovery following catastrophic events in many other industries. The analysis in those reports was at a high level of abstraction, comparing almost exclusively the potential loss from high consequence accidents with the current assets of major firms in relevant industries. We found that potential loss exceeded assets.     

基于EMSR方法的订单接受策略研究

选择性的订单接受策略对于按订单生产的制造型企业具有重要意义。本文在单一资源的情况下,采用收益管理中常用的期望边际座位收益EMSR-a和EMSR-b方法,分别得出了利润最大化的订单接受策略。然后,把这两种策略运用到一个算例,与FCFS策略进行比较。数据结果显示在企业利润方面,这两种策略都明显优于FCFS,利润均提高20%以上。     

Strategic Liquidity Provision in Limit Order Markets

We characterize and prove the existence of Nash equilibrium in a limit order market with a finite number of risk‐neutral liquidity providers. We show that if there is sufficient adverse selection, then pointwise optimization (maximizing in p for each q) in a certain nonlinear pricing game produces a Nash equilibrium in the limit order market. The need for a sufficient degree of adverse selection does not vanish as the number of liquidity providers increases. Our formulation of the nonlinear pricing game encompasses various specifications of informed and liquidity trading, including the case in which nature chooses whether the market‐order trader is informed or a liquidity trader. We solve for an equilibrium analytically in various examples and also present examples in which the first‐order condition for pointwise optimization does not define an equilibrium, because the amount of adverse selection is insufficient.     

国外技术性贸易措施对我国农产品出口的影响——以我国苹果及大蒜出口为例

技术性贸易措施正逐步取代关税和配额,成为我国加入WTO后农产品出口面临的主要障碍。以我国苹果及大蒜出口为例,以国外农药最大残留限量标准作为技术性贸易措施的量化指标,利用HMR两阶段模型研究国外技术性贸易措施对我国农产品出口的影响。研究表明：国外农药最大残留限量标准对我国苹果及大蒜的出口概率有显著的抑制作用,对我国苹果的出口贸易量也有显著的抑制作用。具体而言,与发达国家相比,发展中国家的农药最大残留限量标准更为显著地抑制了我国苹果及大蒜的出口概率;与发展中国家相比,发达国家的农药最大残留限量标准则更为显著地抑制了我国苹果及大蒜的出口贸易量。
