What's wrong with sociology? Its public image

In response to editor Stephen Cole's question—"What's wrong with sociology?"—the answer is nothing that cannot be overcome by clearer communications and better public relations. The problem is that the field is not held in high esteem by college administrators, legislators, and the public. Many see us as rebels of the 1960s, political liberals, and impractical thinkers with a penchant for jargon. Even our research is derided by some as a waste of money. The solution consists of strategies for overcoming our poor public image. Seven strategies for doing so are discussed: (1) Write clearly. (2) Write for a mass audience. (3) Seek board positions. (4) Strengthen our identity. (5) Teach sociology in high school. (6) Develop academic partnerships. (7) Emphasize outcomes: increase in tolerance and research skills.

试论中国政府形象构建的路径选择——以全球化为背景

良好的政府形象是政府巩固统治合法性的基础,是社会稳定和发展的必要条件,也是政府赢得国际良好声誉的保障。在全球化背景下,政府形象本身所承载的价值也被提升和扩展到全球,因此政府形象构建面临着前所未有的压力和挑战。就我国政府形象构建而言,应进一步增强形象塑造意识,着力构建能力型政府和开放型透明政府,以构建起理想的政府形象体系。     

提炼嘉兴主题文化彰显禾城特色魅力——嘉兴城市主题文化建设构想

为了彰显嘉兴城市的特色魅力,必须提炼嘉兴主题文化。基于嘉兴城市文化的基本特点和嘉兴城市的独特元素,根据城市主题文化提炼的5个原则,嘉兴城市主题文化可以提炼为"棹歌会府,粽子都会",并可从三个方面来构建:一是"以‘棹歌升处,粽香天下’进行城市宣传,推介嘉兴历史文化名城的新形象";二是"以‘棹歌’、‘粽子’进行文化创意,打造嘉兴文化创意产业的新起点";三是"以‘棹歌’、‘粽子’进行视觉形象塑造,构筑嘉兴城市生活的新环境"。     

论散文创作与图像艺术的审美互生——以西部散文为例

图像艺术与话语文本的结合是文学创作中的一个重要命题。随着当代视觉艺术的发展,文学创作的视觉化趋势更加明显,并体现在图像艺术与文学话语的结构组合与意蕴融合中。文心画意是散文家自觉的审美追求,影响着散文的叙事、写景与抒情。西部散文中就有许多图文并茂的作品集,成为散文创作与图像艺术审美互生的艺术表征。     

Never easy to say “sorry”: Exploring the interplay of crisis involvement,brand image,and message appeal in developing effective corporate apologies

This study examines how the interplay among crisis involvement, brand image, and message appeal impacts the effectiveness of an apology in the context of a corporate crisis. To determine apology effectiveness, a 2 (crisis involvement: high vs. low) × 2 (brand image: symbolic vs. functional) × 2 (message appeal type: emotional vs. informational) experimental design was employed. The results demonstrate that the three-way interaction is significant, especially in the low-crisis involvement condition. The study concludes with a discussion of theoretical and practical implications and directions for future research.     

利用数学软件复原碎纸片的方法

研究了碎纸片的拼接复原问题,建立了合理有效的碎纸片拼接复原的数学模型；给出了数学软件实现自动拼接的具体算法；结合人工拼接得出复原图片；最后,对所给的拼接方法提出了改进方向.     

A robust automatic clustering algorithm for probability density functions with application to categorizing color images

This study develops a robust automatic algorithm for clustering probability density functions based on the previous research. Unlike other existing methods that often pre-determine the number of clusters, this method can self-organize data groups based on the original data structure. The proposed clustering method is also robust in regards to noise. Three examples of synthetic data and a real-world COREL dataset are utilized to illustrate the accurateness and effectiveness of the proposed approach.     

Exploring the essence of enabling child participation within child protection services

The chances that children have to participate in child protection services are largely contingent upon the attitudes and skills of case managers. They have a crucial role in ensuring that a child's voice is being listened to and acknowledged in often sensitive dialogues. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate what case managers need to facilitate child participation. By handing case managers a participation toolbox developed by children and through the use of reflexive monitoring in action, we elaborated on the barriers faced in practice. The results show that the intention to facilitate child participation is quickly overruled by often subconscious thoughts and beliefs, stemming from the complex interplay of child image, protection, and participation. Case managers need to be aware of this interplay and how this unknowingly steers their actions. Therefore, iterative reflection should be facilitated within organizations for an actual change in their daily practice and to amplify the role of children in the decision‐making processes within child protection services.     

外语课堂教学多模态语料库MCCT的创建

教育信息化2.0时代，利用多模态语料库语言学方法，通过语料库建设及其数据挖掘进行教学音视频流反思，已成为课堂教学和教师发展研究的重要手段。在遵循语料库建设基本原则基础上，聚焦“教师自身发展”专门用途外语课堂教学多模态语料库MCCT的创建，强调建库目的。与此同时，介绍建库过程，概述文字转写、语料切分与标注等具体做法，总结深加工后MCCT特点及其应用开发。目的是为高校教师利用多模态语料库方法进行教学、科研和自身发展提供理念思路、技术参考和典型样例。
