Approximating probability integrals of multivariate normal using association models

The bivariate plane is symmetrically partitioned into fine rectangular regions, and a symmetric uniform association model is used to represent the resulting discretized bivariate normal probabilities. A new algorithm is developed by utilizing a quadrature and the above association model to approximate the diagonal probabilities. The off-diagonal probabilities are then approximated using the model. This method is an alternative to Wang's (1987) approach, computationally advantageous and relatively easy to extend to higher dimensions. Bivariate and trivariate normal probabilities approximated by our method are observed to agree very closely with the corresponding known results.

中国对外资产和负债的结构分析

在分析中国的国家对外资产负债表的基础上,构建了中国1984—2009年的国际投资头寸序列表,分析了中国对外各项资产与负债结构及其变化趋势。数据的特征和变化趋势显示,由于对外资产和对外负债的持有部门不匹配、国际投资头寸表使用美元当作计价单位以及外汇储备的不合理投资,中国的对外资产和负债存在结构性风险,人民币对主要货币的升值将不可避免地带来国际投资头寸表上的净损失以及外汇储备的大幅缩水。最后提出要增加进口和对外投资、增强外汇储备管理,进一步建设中国资本市场。     

Log‐mean Linear Parameterization for Discrete Graphical Models of Marginal Independence and the Analysis of Dichotomizations

We extend the log‐mean linear parameterization for binary data to discrete variables with arbitrary number of levels and show that also in this case it can be used to parameterize bi‐directed graph models. Furthermore, we show that the log‐mean linear parameterization allows one to simultaneously represent marginal independencies among variables and marginal independencies that only appear when certain levels are collapsed into a single one. We illustrate the application of this property by means of an example based on genetic association studies involving single‐nucleotide polymorphisms. More generally, this feature provides a natural way to reduce the parameter count, while preserving the independence structure, by means of substantive constraints that give additional insight into the association structure of the variables. © 2014 Board of the Foundation of the Scandinavian Journal of Statistics

Efficient algorithms for exact inference in 2 × 2 contingency tables

We propose a simple and robust algorithm for exact inference in 2 × 2 contingency tables. It is based on recursive relations allowing efficient computation of odds-ratio estimates, confidence limits and p-values for Fisher's test. A factor of 3–10 is gained in terms of computer time compared with the classical algorithm of Thomas.     

ON TESTS FOR INTERACTION IN A NONREPLICATED TWO-WAY LAYOUT

The paper proposes tests for interaction in a two-way table with one observation per cell. The power of these tests is independent of the additive main effects in the linear model. This is an advantage compared to a test suggested earlier, which has low power if main effects are very variable.     

AN ITERATIVE METHOD FOR ESTIMATION OF PARAMETERS IN A CLUSTERED SAMPLING MODEL

This paper considers an iterative method for obtaining maximum likelihood estimates for a contingency table derived from a clustered sampling model. Comparisons are made with other methods proposed in the literature.
