ABSTRACT

From the 1950s to mid-1970s social work educators in the United States considered developing a multi-level continuum of social work education including associate degrees. The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) added baccalaureate degree programs only. By 1979 the idea of including associate degrees in this continuum disappeared from the scholarly conversation. This qualitative historical research explores factors that led to the exclusion of community colleges from CSWE membership and prevented accreditation of associate degree programs. Using archival evidence, it synthesizes primary and secondary sources and applies a critical pedagogy framework to highlight concerns. Findings suggest that distrust, the pace of change, professionalization, BSW program development, cultural differences, resistance to change, and a lack of external pressure coalesced to rebuff recognition of community colleges as an alternate pathway for social work education in the U.S.  相似文献

Interventions designed to reduce stress and burnout may be costly and access is limited. This study examined the effectiveness of a self-help book, using Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to target stress and burnout in a randomised controlled online trial without any therapist contact. Participants were recruited through a newsletter of a health insurance company. Participants (N?=?119) who reported at least moderate levels of stress were randomly assigned to an immediate intervention (n?=?61) or a waitlist group (n?=?58). Measures before and after the intervention assessed stress, burnout (primary outcomes), depression, well-being, emotion regulation (secondary outcomes) and ACT-specific constructs. Compared to the waitlist group, participants in the immediate intervention group reported lower stress and burnout and higher psychological flexibility at post-assessment. Effects between groups were large for stress (d?=?0.9), moderate to large for burnout (d?=?0.5–0.8) and large for psychological flexibility (d?=?0.8). All primary and most secondary outcomes and ACT processes continued to improve in the 3-month-follow-up period. Results suggest that an ACT self-help book without any therapist contact is effective in reducing stress and burnout for various occupations. Thus, it may provide a cost-effective public health intervention for reducing stress and burnout.  相似文献

The subject of stability for children in long‐term foster care is an emerging field within social work with vulnerable children. In Sweden, the adoption of foster children is not a common occurrence. Instead, when a child has been placed in foster care for 3 years, the local social welfare committee will consider whether the custody of the child should be transferred to the foster parents regardless of the circumstances of the birth parents, in order to secure stability and a sense of family belonging. Consequently, custody transfers raise questions such as “who is family?” and “who is a parent?” This qualitative interview study with custodians and young people who have experienced custody transfer highlights that who counts as family and as a parent is ambiguous. This article draws attention to how negotiations about family and parenthood revolve around biological, emotional, and relational dimensions. Furthermore, we show that stability for children in care has to be understood in terms of processes over time and not as the result of a single decision of custody transfer. Consequently, social workers need to take several aspects into account when they assess family belonging and stability for children in foster care.  相似文献

This paper explores how working on a faculty-led research project influenced the views of Master of Social Work students concerning unauthorized immigrants. Five graduate assistants worked for one year with two faculty members and one doctoral student to code data from interviews with social workers at immigrant-serving organizations in South Carolina. The master’s students then reflected on what they learned from participating in data analysis tasks, indicating that the experience had further sensitized them to the social justice concerns confronting unauthorized immigrants. Drawing on social contact theory, we argue that student participation in faculty-led research can provide a form of indirect social exposure to other groups, which reduce bias, and suggest that such experiences be included in how educators conceptualize the implicit curriculum in schools of social work.  相似文献

This study tests different explanations of anti-immigrant attitudes through a model that incorporates aspects of group conflict, social identity and intergroup contact theories. Multigroup structural equation modelling was applied in three surveys, which tracked the same indicators in no similar economic and migratory contexts. In times of economic crisis, the perceived economic threat seems to lead more to discrimination and rejection of immigrants (in line with Group Conflict Theory), while sense of cultural threat is more likely to curb any desire for coexistence with them. Both threats show to be affected by the perceived size of the immigrant population, which increases the feeling of threat in those traditionally favourable to immigration. Other explanatory factors were also corroborated. Increasing contact with immigrants helps to lessen rejection, especially in the case of cultural threat. Effects due to insecurity were less marked and those relating to qualification were contrary to what was hypothesized.  相似文献

整合营销传播以一种新的观察视角为营销及营销传播带来了彻底的变革,从而发展并改变了传统营销传播的基本观念.首先,它超越了以往对营销与传播的认识,其直接表现是把"营销"与"传播"综合成一个完整的概念;其次,营销本身就是传播过程,传播同样也是营销过程;最后,整合营销传播的终极目标指向了品牌资产,而与顾客以及相关利益人之间的关系则成为实现品牌资产的核心价值.在整合营销传播过程中,由于"关系"、"接触"等一系列全新概念的引入,导致了营销传播目的、实施方向以及媒体延伸等方面的根本转变,传统营销传播观念也受到了重新审视并被赋予新的意义,从而使其表现得更加具有张力.  相似文献

多数壮侗语数量名结构语序不同程度地受到汉语影响,然而不同语言呈现出不同的演变阶段,这是受汉语影响程度不同所致。基于语言接触研究视角,壮侗语数量名结构的演变和变异有三个阶段:傣语、泰语、老挝语的名-数-量结构处于"未变"状态,是壮侗语数量名结构的固有语序;临高语名-数-量与数-量-名结构并存,处于"在变"状态,是数量名结构演变中的过渡阶段;而其他多数壮侗语的数-量-名结构则处于"已变"状态,是其与汉语接触发生演变后的产物。  相似文献

优势语序对语言变异有强大的影响力。汉语和突厥语相同的语序类型对新疆中式俄语产生综合作用,遂使"修饰语+中心语"成为新疆中式俄语定语语序的基本形式。源语类型、数量及影响力是造成受语产生变异的重要因素。新疆、内蒙两地中式俄语定语语序的变异并不同步,说明语言接触环境对语言演变有制约作用。母语使用程度和语言接触途径对语言变异有制约或推动作用。纯俄罗斯族定语语序的变异和混血俄罗斯族定语语序的变异程度不同,内蒙古俄罗斯族母语使用程度较低,汉语接触只限于口语,母语功能退化,因此很多结构规则趋同汉语语序。  相似文献
