Intimate citizenship and the tightening of migration controls in the United Kingdom

This article examines recent changes in British family migration policy. It explores the reasons for these policy changes. It highlights the fact that these changes have affected the legal, financial, social, and lived experiences of transnational couples. It uses primary research to exemplify these changes. For example, it highlights the fact that the changes in policy have had some negative impacts on the ability of transnational families to have intimate relationships with each other. Some of these changes have led to the separation of couples. Other changes have led to what couples outline as an involuntary separation from the United Kingdom. This research has current and future relevance in the context of the focus of the current government and the likelihood that policy will be tightened even further in the aftermath of Britain leaving the EU, post-Brexit.     

Mergers and acquisitions research — A bibliometric analysis

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) remain a popular vehicle for organizational development to ensure future competitiveness. However, despite the extensive body of research in recent decades, significant gaps can be observed between the understanding of the phenomenon M&A in the literature and the importance of M&A activities in practice. Heterogeneous perspectives from different schools of thought, contradictory findings and controversies, and changing economic environments make M&A research a complex endeavor and highlight the need for integrative approaches and holistic perspectives. This paper takes a holistic view of M&A research to map interrelationships among key documents, authors, institutions, and countries; trace the evolution of M&A research over time; and suggest avenues for future research to expand the boundaries of M&A scholarship. For this purpose, a sample of 580 articles from 9 leading management science journals was examined bibliometrically, including 42,630 citations and 18,734 unique references for the years 1963–2019.     

Moment Consistency of the Exchangeably Weighted Bootstrap for Semiparametric M‐estimation

The bootstrap variance estimate is widely used in semiparametric inferences. However, its theoretical validity is a well‐known open problem. In this paper, we provide a first theoretical study on the bootstrap moment estimates in semiparametric models. Specifically, we establish the bootstrap moment consistency of the Euclidean parameter, which immediately implies the consistency of t‐type bootstrap confidence set. It is worth pointing out that the only additional cost to achieve the bootstrap moment consistency in contrast with the distribution consistency is to simply strengthen the L₁ maximal inequality condition required in the latter to the L_p maximal inequality condition for p≥1. The general L_p multiplier inequality developed in this paper is also of independent interest. These general conclusions hold for the bootstrap methods with exchangeable bootstrap weights, for example, non‐parametric bootstrap and Bayesian bootstrap. Our general theory is illustrated in the celebrated Cox regression model.     

Because of you I did not give up – Peer effects in perseverance

It has been shown that both perseverance as well as peer effects affect performance. In our experiment, we investigate the interplay between these two factors. Participants work on a wordplay task where we quantify perseverance as the decision to continue working hard in the face of challenges. We find that persevering on the task is significantly correlated with the psychological questionnaire measure of grit (Duckworth et al., 2007). In an additional treatment, we provide participants with information about a peer’s contemporaneous perseverance on the task. This significantly increases participants’ perseverance on the task independently of their perseverance as measured in the questionnaire, suggesting that it does not only depend on individuals’ inherent traits, but can also be increased by peers.     

基于4PL的跨境电商物流联盟多方行为博弈研究

在对我国4PL跨境电商物流联盟运作模式分析的基础上，针对基于跨境电商平台主导的跨境电商物流联盟，运用演化博弈理论，分析联盟内跨境电商平台、物流服务商和商家之间的动态博弈过程，构建三者在不同策略下的演化博弈模型，并结合系统动力学对三方策略选择的动态博弈进行仿真分析。结果表明，在联盟运作过程中：（1）各方参与者最终会达到"平台监管、物流企业努力、商家参与"的均衡状态，并且商家参与对联盟稳定运作具有重要作用。平台监管对物流企业策略选择具有直接影响，其应制定科学的惩罚力度及补偿裁定，以提升物流服务质量并保障商家权益；（2）联盟各方参与者对其相关外生变量具有较高的敏感性，但其最终策略受多个变量的共同作用，为此平台需发挥其主导作用，采取多种措施激发物流企业及商家的积极性。     

Development and validation of the Perceived Investment Value (PIV) scale

This study aims to develop a complementary and more comprehensive measurement to assess the nature of investment value affecting consumers’ investment behavior. Recent research suggests that consumers may desire and obtain certain outcomes from investments that have not been anticipated in mainstream finance and economics literature. These benefits might be hedonistic or altruistic, self-expressive or emotional and experiential. Yet, while an increasing amount of attention has been paid to this topic, little effort has been made to develop an appropriate measurement scale for the subjective consumer perceptions of investments. To address this gap in the literature, this study introduces the concept of Perceived Investment Value (PIV), and develops and validates a measurement scale for the concept. The ultimate 18-item PIV scale parsimoniously represents six Perceived Investment Value dimensions: Economic value—Monetary savings; Economic value—Efficiency; Functional value—Convenience; Emotional value—Emotions and Experiences; Symbolic value—Altruism; and Symbolic value—Esteem. The final measurement scale demonstrates acceptable reliability and validity. Implications related to the developed scale are discussed in terms of their potential to inform a future research agenda.     

基于区域比较的辽宁省跨境电子商务发展研究

跨境电子商务在当今信息化的时代迅猛发展。自2016年初辽宁大连被列入跨境电子商务综合试验区以来,跨境电子商务在辽宁得到了进一步发展,但作为东北老工业基地,辽宁在跨境电子商务发展方面尚存在问题。通过对上海、浙江、郑州几个起步较早的跨境电商试点地区的分析,总结其经验,为辽宁跨境电子商务的发展提供有效对策建议。     

Nonparametric Predictive Inference for Exposure Assessment

Exposure assessment for food and drink consumption requires the combining of information about people's consumption of products with concentration data sets to provide predictions for chemical intake by humans. In this article, we present a method called nonparametric predictive inference (NPI) for exposure assessment. NPI is a distribution‐free method relying only on Hill's assumption . Effectively, is a postdata exchangeability assumption, which is a natural starting point for nonparametric statistics. For further discussion we refer to works by Hill and Coolen. We illustrate how NPI can be implemented to produce predictions for an individual's exposure based on consumption, body weight, and concentration data. NPI has the advantage that we do not have to assume a distribution to implement it. There may, however, be information available to suggest a distribution for a random quantity. Therefore, we present an NPI‐Bayes hybrid method where this information can be taken into account by using Bayesian methods while using NPI for the other random quantities in the model.     

External technology acquisition and product innovativeness: The moderating roles of R&D investment and configurational context

An increasing number of studies in technology/innovation management contribute to the understanding of the relationship between external technology acquisition and product innovation performance. On the other hand, the meta-analytic reviews of new product development literature indicate a positive impact of product innovativeness on product innovation performance. However, existing research has not examined the link between external technology acquisition and product innovativeness. This study, therefore, aims to fill this gap of knowledge by investigating the external technology acquisition—product innovativeness relationship and examining the moderating roles of R&D investment and configurational context on this link. Based on a panel sample of 105 high-technology firms over a six-year period, a least squared dummy variable s model reveals interesting results. First, external technology acquisition has a positive impact on product innovativeness. Second, R&D investment increases the effect of external technology acquisition on product innovativeness. Lastly, firm size exhibits a negative effect on the contribution of external technology acquisition to product innovativeness. However, firm age positively impacts the relationship between external technology acquisition and product innovativeness. In addition, this study reveals a positive effect of product innovativeness on firm growth.
