Stay for the Children? Husband Violence,Marital Stability,and Children's Behavior Problems

Much research has argued for the existence of a marriage benefit to men, women, and children. Although the commonly suggested current response to a husband's violence has been for the couple to separate, traditionally women were often told to “stay for the children.” This paper uses the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods longitudinal data to examine the relationships among marital stability, husband violence, and children's behavior problems. Among married mothers who reported husband violence at time 1 (N= 414), the negative relationship between child behavior problems and remaining in the marriage dissipated when selection bias and husband violence recidivism were controlled.

Absent men: paid domestic work,sexual exploitation and male domination in the family in the USA

This article analyzes the sexual exploitation of paid domestic workers in the US through the lens of male domination in employing families. Departing from the dominant tendency in studies of paid domestic work to focus on relationships between female employers and workers, the article addresses the role of male domination and patriarchal family structures within employing families in the sexual exploitation of domestic workers by male employers. Using materialist feminist approaches, the article argues that domestic workers’ experiences should be seen as embedded in the patriarchal environment created by male household heads who appropriate the labor of other household members, including wives, children and paid domestic workers. The sexual exploitation of domestic workers is then analyzed as being a result of the appropriation of women’s entire personhood by men within the relationship of sexage outlined by Colette Guillaumin.     

Examining Rates of Engagement over Time with Court-Ordered Men in a Domestic Abuse Treatment Program

Limited research exists on the engagement process in domestic abuse treatment. This exploratory study of a large urban domestic abuse program (N = 81) examined the engagement of men entering group treatment using the Group Engagement Measure (GEM-27) over two time points. The GEM-27 pointed to significant change in engagement scores reported by facilitators between pre- and posttest, despite the involuntary nature of the treatment process. The subscore Means for the category “working on own problem” at time one was significantly higher for completers compared to dropouts. Implications for research and practice are discussed.     

Adolescent‐to‐parent violence and abuse: Parents' management of tension and ambiguity—an interpretative phenomenological analysis

Adolescent violence and abuse towards parents is under researched, especially in the UK where reports of the phenomenon are increasing with little clear guidance as to how practitioners might respond. In this qualitative study, 6 parents were recruited through youth offending teams and were interviewed about their lived experiences of violence and/or abuse from their adolescent child. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis, 3 superordinate themes emerged (a) the tensions and (b) the ambiguities produced by living with the violence and abuse and (c) the ways that parents manage the harms caused by these tensions and ambiguities. Theoretical and clinical implications are discussed, including consideration of how practitioners might support parents who are living with adolescent‐to‐parent violence and abuse to establish healthy and sustainable coping strategies while repairing family relationships.     

The division of domestic work among dual-career and other dual-earner couples in Finland

This study compares the division of domestic work among dual-career and other dual-earner couples. We examine whether gender attitudes, relative resources and working time explain the differences between dual-career and other dual-earner couples. We define dual-career couples as those in which both spouses are professionals and/or managers. The division of housework is important for these couples because of the intense pressures of work. We hypothesise that domestic work is more equally shared among dual-career couples than among other dual-earner couples. The quantitative analyses are based on the Finnish data from the 2010 European Social Survey (N?=?493). The qualitative data consist of 20 Finnish career spouses interviewed in 2005. The quantitative analysis indicates that domestic work is shared the most equally among couples where the woman or both spouses have a career status. Attitudes, resources or working time do not explain this difference entirely. The results support the class culture hypothesis: The division of housework is most equal in homogeneous dual-career couples and least equal in homogeneous no-career couples.     

The ILO's Domestic Workers Convention and Recommendation: A window of opportunity for social justice

Domestic workers are a predominantly female workforce whose social and labour rights remained largely unattended for decades. Addressing this has become more urgent, as demand for household and personal care services is increasing. Convention No. 189 and Recommendation No. 201 set out global minimum standards for domestic work. The author first describes international labour and human rights law on domestic work prior to 2011. He then examines the instruments' definitions and scope and problems of particular groups; their provisions on working time, pay, work environment and living conditions; social security; and implementation and enforcement.

国产动漫在“中国学派”时期坚持走民族化的道路,秉承民间文学传统,借鉴民族艺术形式,凸显民俗文化底蕴。蕴藉传统文化精神,无论是表面艺术形式还是深层次的内容,都达到了相当的艺术高度．赢得了世界赞誉。这对当下陷入困境的国产动漫的艺术创作和发展创新有着深刻启示：在全球化语境下,内外交困的国产动漫如何才能弘扬民族传统．提升文化内涵,打造文化品牌,形成文化产业,实现经济效益,维护文化安全,从而在全球动漫竞争乃至大国较量之中立于不败之地？国产动漫应该技术与艺术融合,民族化与国际化并重,经济效益与文化效益兼顾,以民族化为根基,以现代化和国际化为两翼,以产业化和人文化为旨归,如此才能摆脱困境,自立于世界动漫艺术之林。     

国家民族文化的对内发展战略

适应全球化趋势,本文提出了国家民族文化的对内发展的四个战略,并提出变革国家民族文化建构理念,建立多层次、多元化发展的国家民族文化权变体制问题。制定对内文化发展战略,有助于创建中国当代先进文化;建立满足广大人民群众需要的丰富多彩的多层次文化;形成凝聚各个民族文明成就的中华文化,实现马克思主义对国家民族文化的统领作用,坚实地把中国文化推向世界。
