Sexual Victimization and Physical Health: An Examination of Explanatory Mechanisms

ABSTRACT

There is a growing body of research illustrating a significant relationship between a history of sexual victimization and the development of physical health problems; however, few researchers have examined variables that mediate this relationship. The present study examined two potential mediating variables: experiential avoidance and current stress. Results indicated that current stress significantly mediated the relationship between adult sexual assault and physical health complaints, and experiential avoidance may be a partial mediator. Implications of the findings and future directions are discussed.     

The Experiential Community Assessment Project: Integrating Social Work Practice Skills

Although most social work students are primarily interested in micro practice, the Council on Social Work Education mandates teaching macro practice. The challenge of incorporating meaningful and relevant community assignments within practice courses is noted in the literature (Koerin, Reeves, & Rosenblum, 2000 Koerin, B. This article discusses the Experiential Community Assessment Project (ECAP) that integrates social work practice skills through interviewing a community leader, attending a community meeting, and using publicly available data to assess at risk neighborhoods. Grounded in experiential learning theory, a series of reflection papers are used to help students process what they are learning. A capstone poster presentation is required at the end. Suggestions and recommendations are made for using or adapting this project within other social work curricula.     

Web 2.0 support for individual,group and organizational learning

This article explores how Web 2.0 interactive technologies are valuable for generative, learner-driven, instructor-facilitated virtual learning processes integrated with work tasks for solving problems and coping with challenges. This is in contrast to the earlier generation of one-way technologies that is traditionally used for adaptive, instructor-driven online learning programs for skills and knowledge training, and communicating corporate policies and procedures. Learning professionals need to be open to encourage employees' experimentation with new software tools and techniques, value technology gatekeepers in their organization and promote informal learning.     

具身认知视域下的语言身-脑-形三维模式初探——以获取事件及其构式为例

按照具身认知的语言观,语言义形关系应该是“身（感知运动系统）-脑（经验知识网络）-形（语言表达系统）”的三维互动关系。通过对语言“身-脑-形”三维模式进行理论初探,以获取事件及其构式为例,用“认知事件框架”来表述大脑经验知识网络的内容,以身（感知运动）和形（语言表达）围绕脑的动态连通关系来阐释构式的识解机制,并自建英语获取动词和构式语料库,经语料定量分析,来验证语言“身-脑-形”三维模式在阐释语言系统的认知操作过程和使用分布倾向中的有效性。同时,基于理论研究和语料库方法,对比分析了语言“身-脑-形”三维模式与“认知事件框架”模式的异同,以期对语言义形关系研究以及具身认知语言学研究的发展有所启示。     

基于SCP理念的体验式MBA人才培养模式研究

为应对MBA教育教学工作面临的"课程的理论性与实践性不平衡"等诸多问题,文章提出了"通过建立交流分享机制,取长补短,顿悟智慧,深化书本知识,升华理论学习,助推全面成长"的体验式MBA教育教学SCP培养模式。其中,交流分享机制以"拓展旅游、主题演讲和主题沙龙"为前奏,以融"移动课堂、参观交流、案例研讨、专题讲座和社会实践"为一体的班级大讲堂活动为载体,撰写小论文,拓展毕业论文,并进行了验证。

A Poem to Memorialize an Experiential Focal Group1

Thirteen women enrolled in a master’s level group therapy class participated in an experiential focal group culminating in the writing of a poem. The poem was part of the framework developed by the students to evaluate an in-class personal and professional growth experience. The poem provided greater meaning to the participants than a mere letter grade assigned by the professor for class participation alone. The emotional intensity created through class participation in a group therapy class lends itself to memorializing a deeply shared temporal experience in a form of expression that is apposite to a poem. ¹The author expresses gratitude to the students who participated in a classroom experiential focal group producing this poem and granting permission to write this paper.
