共生与互融:短视频时代大学生的国家认同教育

大学生国家认同意识关乎国家发展主体合力的生成与国家网络意识形态安全,更关系到人民对美好生活的向往和时代新人的使命担当。短视频解释性、场景化和感染力的特质优化了国家认同教育空间体验,创新了国家认同教育话语表达,开创了国家认同教育多元风格,重塑了国家认同教育作用圈层;但在资本逻辑、技术逻辑和商品逻辑的操控下,短视频行业跌入了“欲望泛化”“感性狂欢”和“物的迷恋”的怪圈,衍生出了消解大学生国家认同意识的隐性因子。面对潜伏性危机,高校必须分析和挖掘国家认同教育与短视频平台发展的内在契合点和价值共生点,强化内容认同、角色认同、思想认同和行为认同,促进国家认同意识的内化与外化。     

大学生学科文化自信培育的价值逻辑及路径探析 ——以河北工程大学地球科学与工程学院为例

学科文化是学科的灵魂,是学科不断发展创新的精神源泉和内在动力。学科文化自信是文化自信的重要组成部分,培育大学生文化自信应着眼全局,整体推进。学科文化自信与文化自信具有统一性,与核心价值观培育具有同构性,与担当民族复兴大任具有生成性。培育大学生学科文化自信,要深入挖掘和整合学科文化内涵,不断创新和发展培育手段,最终达到浸润和形塑博学自信的新时代大学生的目标。学科文化自信的培育可以达到激发学生学术热情,促进学生和学科全面发展,弘扬社会主义核心价值观,坚定理想信念以及践行使命担当的效用。     

需求牵引课题培养材料领域研究生爱国担当之志

培养研究生爱国担当之志是研究生教育的根本,是科研育人的生动体现,是落实全国高校思想政治工作会议精神与全国研究生教育会议精神的核心。以材料领域研究生培养为例,探讨需求牵引课题激发与培养研究生爱国担当之志的路径与成效。结合自主创新研究成果与航天迫切需求,激发学生奉献与担当之志,立志为我国航天强国事业贡献青春与力量,担当时代赋予的重任。实现将科学研究与思想引领有机融合,引导学生建立主动将个人成长与国家发展和中华民族伟大复兴相结合的信念,培养学生既具有过硬材料创新本领,又具有自信、爱国、奉献、担当意识,为中国特色社会主义现代化建设培养德才兼备的材料领域创新拔尖领军人才。     

“微时代”大学生爱国奋斗精神培育探究

“微时代”大学生爱国奋斗精神培育,是推动大学生爱国奋斗精神培育与时俱进的现实之需,也是引导新时代大学生成长成才的内容之要,更是凝心聚力实现中华民族伟大复兴中国梦的应有之义。爱国奋斗精神最基本的特征是在家国情怀的牵引下,将“爱国”同“奋斗”两个价值主题转化为奋斗报国的实践主题。高校必须把握“微时代”特点及当代大学生群体特征,秉承因事而化、因时而进、因势而新理念,把握其方法论要义。从“微时代”高校思想政治教育的现实境遇角度出发,分析当代大学生在网络空间下的行为样态和“微时代”烙印特征,通过创作“微内容”、抢占“微阵地”、净化“微环境”、营造“微文化”,探索“微时代”背景下大学生爱国奋斗精神培育的有效路径。     

The effect of paid maternity leave on low-income families' welfare use in the US

Despite the critical role that paid maternity leave can assume in the economic lives of low-income families, research to date has paid insufficient attention to whether paid maternity leave reduces welfare use for low-income families. Using the Current Population Survey (CPS) March Supplement 2007–2014 with the difference-in-difference (DiD) technique, this study finds a significant policy effect of paid maternity leave on reducing the probability of using Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), TANF benefit amounts and TANF participation length. This study confirms that paid maternity leave is likely to prevent low-income families from using welfare during job interruptions stemming from the birth of a child. Given that TANF is often associated with negative political and social connotations, paid maternity leave can be used as an important social policy to improve economic security as well as offer empowerment in overall social standing for low-income mothers. The discussion focuses on the implications of the findings in a broader context of American welfare states.     

Alcohol consumption among undergraduate social work students at a South African university

ABSTRACT

Alcohol consumption among tertiary level students is a public health problem that can adversely affect students’ performance at university. This study therefore investigated the drinking patterns; reasons for drinking; and the perceived impact of drinking on academic performance of undergraduate social work students at a South African university. Of the 145 students who completed a group administered survey questionnaire, 88% reported using alcohol mainly for social purposes and enjoyment, with two-fifths admitting to participating in binge drinking. Despite these findings, a high proportion (78%) reported not performing poorly on a test or exam due to alcohol consumption in the preceding 12 months. Recommendations are provided for the education and support of social work students as future healthcare professionals.     

Racial/Ethnic Minority Community College Students' Critical Consciousness and Social Cognitive Career Outcomes

A need exists to better understand how racial/ethnic minority students' critical consciousness development in response to marginalization may be involved in their educational and career development. We therefore examined the link between critical consciousness development and career decision self-efficacy and career outcome expectations among racial/ethnic minority community college students. Following social cognitive career theory's conceptual pillars, we developed a testable model integrating critical consciousness and social cognitive variables. This model was tested with 135 racially and ethnically diverse community college students. Data analysis included path analyses and tests of model fit using structural equation modeling. Results suggested that (a) higher critical agency is linked to higher career decision self-efficacy and outcome expectations and (b) critical action and reflection have a bidirectional link and predict higher critical agency. Implications for research and practice aiming to close educational and career gaps among racial/ethnic minorities are discussed.     

Enduring not enjoying? Emotional responses to studying abroad among Danish and Chinese students

ABSTRACT

Students’ emotions during stays abroad have mainly been treated as ”culture shock”, where difficulties are interpreted as universal ”stages” towards ”adaptation”. This paper explores how students from different cultural and educational traditions experience studying abroad differently. The study presents a qualitative study of 18 Danish and Chinese students in Chinese and Danish universities and situates itself within the literature on culture shock, student emotions and study-abroad experiences. The study exposes the students’ complex emotions throughout their studies abroad and explains how these emotions relate to processes of self-formation, professional and academic development, increase or decrease in freedom, and student agency.
