新世纪我国学术界关于世界史体系问题的研究

改革开放30年来,中国世界史研究日益繁荣,在建设世界史新体系方面,提出了三种新史观：“世界史纵横发展整体史观”、“现代化史观”和“文化史观”。进入21世纪,国内学术界站在全球化的高度,围绕这三种新史观,从世界史学科新体系建立的必要和可能、全球化、全球史观和世界史学科建设、构建世界史新体系的几重困境和偏差等方面对构建科学合理的世界史新体系过程中的问题和不足进行了全面探讨和反思。

Articulating Values to Inform Decision Making: Lessons from Family Firms Around the World

Both the popular and the academic press stress that management grounded in values is fundamental to decision-making. High performance companies know that clarity about values is key to getting the job done. However, many family-owned firms do not adequately articulate their core values into a workable orientation for the business. As a result, they are in danger of seriously impairing their decision-making. The authors analyzed family business mission statements from around the world to identify the core values expressed therein. The authors also analyzed how efficiently these values were articulated. They propose that family businesses can make their decision making more effective by identifying and including their core values in the business's mission statement. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Be like et al. beyond America: The quotative system in British and Canadian youth

In this paper we study the quotative system of contemporary British and Canadian youth. Multivariate analysis of nearly 1300 quotative verbs demonstrates that the innovative form belike is productive in both Canada and Britain. Traditional quotatives such as say, go,think, are used according to somewhat different patterns in the two corpora. We suggest that this is the result of differing narrative styles across varieties. However, the linguistic trajectory of the innovative form belike is remarkably parallel, not only across the British and Canadian corpora, but is also comparable with previous reports of this form in the United States. This finding provides evidence for a systematic global diffusion of belike across geographically separated speech communities and calls for further research into the social and linguistic mechanisms underlying such internationally circumscribed linguistic change.     

GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE AND JAPANESE NUCLEAR POLICY1

Abstract Among advanced industrialized countries, only the Japanese government has a plan to construct an additional twenty nuclear power plant by 2010. Why does the government adhere so aggressively to a pro-nuclear policy? Recently, the government has stressed nuclear power for global climate protection. This paper criticizes Japanese climate protection policy from a sociological point of view and searches the political and social background of the policy, focusing on: (4 the characteristics and structure of the global warming issue, (b) the political opportunity structure of the decision making process at the national level, (c) the role of NGOs, (d) the international context and (el countermeasures at the municipal level.
